Bol Bol?

Post#1 » by pacerfan1984 » Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:55 pm

I feel like Bol Bol is worth the risk at 18 if he's there. He was a top 10 lock before the injury and Myles could help offset his defensive limitations. Thoughts?

Don't think he's a fit at all. I liked him, but apparently his attitude (a little disinterested) and injury risk are very real.

I can see an argument that he could be the BPA but he wouldn't be the BPA at a position of need. i've got a long list of 3's and 4's ahead of him.

I feel like if hes there forget need and draft talent. This guy could potentially be a franchise player and if talent like that is available its no brainer. We all know the Pacers will never draft in the top 10 so to me if Bol is there you take him. Look where Milwaukee drafted Giannis

I highly doubt he’s a franchise player. I’d honestly take him off the board. He’s so skinny and immobile (laterally) I just don’t see investing a long time in him with his body type and with his navicular issues in his foot. I don’t even think Myles could offset him, and I don’t see how Dom could either. We’d have to go with long faster guys across the board like Milwaukee is doing.

If he falls to us, I hope we can net some value and get someone to trade up for him. I just don’t know what we do with him on the court.

I’d be interested. Especially considering at some point we may have to move one of Sabonis/Turner

A giant rim protector that can stretch the floor would be very valuable.

if I'm taking a giant, I prefer Tacko Fall to Bol Bol. but at 50, not 18.

Bol Bol has unique skills but carries too much injury risk. I would only consider Bol Bol if Pritchard trades either Myles or Domas. Remember Smits was a medical mess before he balled out.

We need 4,3,1,2,5 in that order.

I agree that we don’t need a 5 unless someone is moved. But at 18 I’m a firm believer in best player available.

I saw this and found it interesting. Points out how Bol Bol may block a lot of shots, but he's an absolutely terrible defender.

No doubt go bpa. Hopefully it matches our biggest need.

if Thad walks, I'd say 4, 3, 2, 1, 5 because I don't expect both DC and CoJo to leave and if they do I expect a veteran free agent to take their place. I'm looking at the combo 3/4s.

with Thad but with or without Bogie, 3, 2, 4, 1, 5. here I've moved 2 up because the need which I now see as a 3/4 would become a 3/2.

Exactly. You can teach him to become a serviceable defender but you cant teach those offensive skills. The Pacers will never attract a big name free agent or draft high enough to get a star so I really believe they need to take a chance and draft this kid if hes there. The chances drafting a star at 18 are slim anyway

I could see Bol falling to the early 2nd round due to his injury issues.

Honestly, his workout looks the exact same as Yi Jianlian’s did a few years back when he was playing against a folding chair.

The tough part is his instincts are simply terrible. He has no idea where to be on the court and he clogs offensively when he misses screens and tends to float to the 3 point line towards the ball handler, bringing his defender with him to trap. He also has some straight line mobility but absolutely none laterally. His spin move is slow, and that’s full speed. He also has a terribly slow set and shot. Maybe he develops a basketball iq on both ends, a desire to workout, an ability to stay healthy, an ability to put weight on, and any sense of lateral movement, but I’m not investing a 1st round pick in it. I have a feeling that he may be more of a second or third contract guy in the nba, and that his original drafting team will get nothing out of him.

Yeah, I’m a hater.

Reports are out his workout was under 30 minutes, and he was “running out of steam” before the end.

I have a feeling if he makes it in the nba, it’s going to be in the Boban kind of minutes of a 4-6 minute run, and then sit the rest of the quarter.
