The most low cost way we can make a run at D'Lo is to trade DJ for cap space. Renounce everyone, stretch Mozgov - that should get us to max contract for D'Lo.

If that falls apart, we've still got:

Bamba
Gordon
Isaac/Iwundu
Fournier
Fultz
+ 2019 #16
+ 2019 #46

+$28M cap space

As a 'core', they'd need to find a new offensive identity pretty fast.

If you add D'Lo and a veteran C for the MLE, how does that team look?

If you miss out on D'Lo, but you're able to get Brogdon on a deal similar to Gordon's. How does that team look?

No Brogdon? No idea. Better start panning for gold.

I'm OK with all of this because we still have all of our young core. TRoss and Vuc were great last year but they are older vet players at their ceiling and can be replaced. Get D'Lo and throw the MLE at Dedmon to come back.

Which is all perfectly fine because it’s going to happen at some point anyway. The core is going to have to take on more responsibility and a new offensive identity has to be established.

It's ok to have vets on a different timeline than the kids on the roster. No one is winning with straight sub 23 yr olds in the starting lineup. Sounds great when you have OKC mvp trio but we don't, and it'll be major step back with lots of losing. I'm perfectly happy to keep Vuc and Ross to continue helping the development of the others. And both are only 28 yrs old; middle of their prime.

nice bench players but we're likely worse than last year. Tyus Jones could replace DJ, at best, but so what? Lamb's ceiling is TRoss but so what? Filler-and treading water IF they hit their ceilings...neither one are new to the NBA

Any rumours on if the Magic is to pick up Iwundu's team option?

Correct. I was attempting to argue why it makes sense to go after Russel at the expense of losing Vuc.

They would only have the room exception ($4.6m).

A big like Dedmon will get more than MLE...the vet C's we'd be looking at with room exception would be low tier

This plan you stated is the cleanest to D-Lo but its also the riskiest. There are paths that the FO could take that doesn't risk setting the Magic back if they miss.

Yep, that would more than likely be a high lottery team.

...and in 2020 any cap space freed up would be useless + have to be saved anyhow to be able to re-sign Fultz and Isaac the following summer when their contract goes from rookie scale to regular contract. Might as well flip Gordon and Fournier at that point since both are going to be pushing their way out asap and they'd be wasting away on a lottery team.

We have a better % chance at being a lottery team than making playoffs next year. Not sure why people are acting as if we’re some perennial playoff team now.

2020 FA class isn’t anything to write home about. Definitely not saving any money for Fultz broken ass until he can practice. He’s pretty much Mozgov right now “Cap Holder” until something better comes along.

There is no reason why Magic can't compete for playoff spot if team holds form + addition of internal improvement from young players. The only thing that reduces playoff chance is if team can't retain their assets and has to go into Rebuild 7.0

Difference between can’t retain assets and not valuing them at x amount. I’m not sure FO values Vuc like some of these deals he could get. If Vuc is gone then I don’t see any reason TRoss stays regardless how much he loves Orlando. Dude will make mad $$$$ for a playoff team coming off the bench.

What deals are out there for Vucevic? the ones his agent is leaking?

I don't see it:

Teams with projected cap space...

New York $73.2m ...M Robinson + looking at top max guys
Brooklyn $67.6m ...J Allen + looking at top max guys
LA Clippers $52.9m ...maybe but looking at top max guys + they have/like Zubac
Indiana $44.1m ...Turner/Sabonis
Sacramento $38.4m ...maybe but why for both sides
Utah $33.4m ...Gobert
LA Lakers $32.5m ...maybe but Vogel is there and looking at top max guys
Dallas $29.3m ...Porzingis/Powell
Atlanta $24.9m ...rebuilding
Chicago $20.8m ...rebuilding
Denver $17.5m ...Jokic
New Orleans $15.2m

Two max salary combinations:

38.2 + 38.2 = $76.4m
32.7 + 38.2 = $70.0m
32.7 + 32.7 = $65.4m
27.3 + 38.2 = $65.5m
27.3 + 32.7 = $60.0m
27.3 + 27.3 = $54.6m

• Eligible for Jr. Max $27.3:
D Russell / K Porzingis

• Eligible for Mid Max $32.7m
J Butler / K Irving / K Thompson / K Walker / K Leonard / K Middelton / N Vucevic / T Harris

• Eligible for Vet Max $38.2m
K Durant

Wouldnt be surprised if the nets re-sign DLo and pair him with Kyrie.

The nets, under this management, are known to get the most out of their assets.

Maybe. But he’s locked in on a nice deal and has already proven to fit in well off the bench.

What would you expect to trade for him?

Dinwiddie wouldnt be bad.

Also, woj did say that prior to dinwiddie signing an extension, we were planning to target both.
