So do I. I think he could well be their best player.

I thought he really struggled in the playoffs. But that could be because of many factors.. Excited to see him next season.

Same, I'm still all on board with Hayward and willing to ride out the next two seasons.

The athleticism of the Bucks did him in. But he finished the regular season strong.

I'm cautiously optimistic. He's going to have to work like a madman this summer though (and I have no reason to think he won't).

Next season though I'm going to have a very hard time treating Hayward with kid gloves anymore, even though I do still feel for him and how his career got totally derailed. This season whenever he looked like garbage it was always "yeah, but". Next year that's over, at least for me.

HAYWARD

Post#1326 » by hondobird » Fri Jun 14, 2019 10:15 pm

He may be the biggest key to Celtics near term future. If he:

a. agrees to a trade - Danny can make something happen
b. if he is a Celtic and returns to form - there is hope
c. if he is a Celtic and never returns to form - there is trouble

Thoughts?

I believe c is all the way out ..he'll return to form and I'll be driving the bandwagon ! ha

Any current trade is selling low on a player who chose to sign with us as a FA...

Answer is B :D

As the Mayor of Hayward Island, I resent that choices a) and c) are even being brought up. He won't be all-star Hayward but as long as he's used right, he's gonna be among top 3 most impactful Celtics next season. (Don't even bring up the Bucks series, that was an absolute failure from top to bottom, coach to ballboy.)

EDIT: LOL I just realized I'm open to the possibility of him being part of an AD trade. But that's too far-fetched to even happen.

This years team would have been better had we featured Hayward more. We have to get his confidence back and that’s not going to happen if he is sharing time with 3-4 other guys. He needs more shots and less people complaining about his playing time for us to be good.

I expect Hayward to be at about 90% of the player he was when he was an all-star for the Jazz, at the start of this season. That’s still 5 months away.

For Hayward to excel, he needs a lot more touches and to play point forward more often. Basically, he needs to play with a less ball dominant PG.

He was solid against Indiana. Hopefully he can take another jump a year removed from his second surgery.

Let’s just burn the tape for this year. Never been more excited for a league year to end.

Sucks he got hurt but because of hurting feelings or perceptions that why were keeping him is dumb and hurting us big time.
He isn't worth 10 mill let alone 30 jeez. He is basically done

Hayward has only 2 years in his deal left. We are halfway through it. It is t an awful contract. We didn’t sign up to a 6 year deal.

The white stiff is a retro topic. Obviously, the great American black athlete is the best athlete in the world, but Hayward is an plus level athlete, even by nba standards.

And, eastern Europe’s white players typically have very good athleticism.

Eh. The players who had the biggest issue with Gordon were most likely Rozier and Jaylen. Rozier mentioned how it affected him with Gordon having the ball in his hands so much. And Jaylen for obvious reasons. Both can kick rocks. Gordon will be fine.

Dude. No I head the ball in their hand more than Rozier. I want to compare amount of dribbles in the half court per player. That, and time of possession with the ball.

We’re talking a vastly superior wing to anybody else on the team. I really think he’ll be back in form.

Vastly Superior? He's a one-time Allstar who is VASTLY over-paid and he benefitted financially from a relationship with his college coach.

Ummm, no.

Utah would hAve paid Gordon more money. Miami offered max. Hayward was worth the money, and his last two years in Utah were ok star caliber, legitimately.

Probably just coincidental... posting without further comment.

When Gordon Hayward's usage was at least 20%*, the Celtics had a W-L of 25-5 (83.3%).
When Gordon Hayward's usage was below 20%, the Celtics had a W-L of 17-25 (40.5%).
*still too low for a guy of his talents but maybe just right since he's coming off surgery

When Terry Rozier's usage was at least 20%, the Celtics had a W-L of 17-16 (51.5%).
When Terry Rozier's usage was below 20%, the Celtics had a W-L of 30-16 (65.2%).

Exactly. He was the entire issue with Hayward and that second unit last year. Let’s get Hayward
To 30% usage this year. Get him averaging 20 oof and expecting him to be an all star.

Who cares if he becomes all-star or not. Or if he scores 20 ppg. He makes the team better since he's unselfish, plays within the system, and makes the right decisions most of the time. He was underused last season even when he was finally getting into a groove since end of January. Make Gordon make plays. People are looking for a pass-first PG to run the team. We have a pass-first wing in Hayward and a pass-first big in Horford. Gotta maximize their skills.
