Time will tell. Lakers won for now (assuming AD signs). The team who gets the best player usually wins. It comes down to this 4 pick, and there's no clear potential stars at 4 IMO

Lakers traded a young supporting cast for a player they could have got as a free agent. There is absolutely no way this is anything other than an l for la.

Pelicans just became contenders. Lakers just became overrated

Could they have? Who's to say AD wouldn't sign with the Knicks and capitalize on his Bird rights? Also, LeBron's declining and wants to win now. Pelicans could make the playoffs. They are the contenders, if healthy

Who were we fooling when the Lakers with 34 year old Kobe traded for 27 year old top 5 player Dwight Howard who had just bullied his way out of Orlando. To think this is a lock to the finals is foolish. We have 34 year old LeBron getting 26 year old AD who has had WAY less success as a superstar than Howard had in Orlando.

What? Howard was coming off a back injury and from then on was not half the player AD is.

And if AD was in the East he'd have way more playoff success.

Lakers are officially coming out of the west. Its wide open with KD-Klay injury and chris Paul's decline. It just depends if clippers land 2 stars but they can't possibly pair Kawhi up with somebody better than AD when KD is out all year.

Kuzma is a overrated. I can understand why the Lakers like having a cheap productive player under contract but I might almost prefer the extra FRP that New Orleans got instead.
He produces more points for the other team. Geez just because a guy chucks and scores a few points people think he's good.

Ya Kuz definitely ya his flaws. The thing is though he fit the best with Lebron and was the most mature in that he can fit in with the vets better outside the court as well

Think this is a fine trade for Pels. Celts weren’t giving Tatum and Knicks didn’t have the asset volume.

Pels now building a good-great defensive team: Jude, Ball, and Zion are great defenders. Ingram I’m still very bullish on. Hart a gritty type..

Lakers do well obviously but questions still remain. Lebron is getting up there and AD is moderately susceptible to injury as well. But think they have jumped into the tier 1 conversation at this point.

Win-win type deal here

The assets are pretty much useless... but they did do a good job getting a lot of picks.

Meh, more superteams....... after the first enjoyable playoffs in years. Guess we'll see what happens

My gosh, he just got a group of promising young players and 3 future firsts one of which is #4 this year. I haven't seen the protections on the other 2 firsts but if they aren't protected and if one of them isn't due for 4 years that could be a very high pick since it will be the year after lebron's deal is up. Typically his former teams tank very hard the year after he leaves.

I honestly don't know how Grif could have done any better than he just did. I think that was a hell of a deal for the Pels

I thought Lakers players were trash? That's what posters kept on saying. They didn't get kuzma like being offered in February , so pels got a worse deal today.

If Lakers get Davis last year they finish with a better record and don't get a 4th pick in the draft. :banghead:

They should. If anything, they should offload some of their other veterans for any type of picks (1st or 2nds) and build up a great young core over the next year or two.

AD hasn't played a full season in his entire career. Nobody thought Howard was done when the Lakers traded for him. It just turned out poorly. The point is the Lakers had a similar situation in the past that blew up on them. To think this is a lock for a finals trip is ridiculous. If it's just aging LeBron and AD I don't think the Lakers are likely to make the finals. They are a definite contender though.

Those Lakers also had a better supporting cast. I'm guessing the win total estimates for the two teams entering the season would favor the Kobe/Howard Lakers.
