I imagine that the Lakers refused to take Solomon Hill back in the trade.

Even if the Lakers do sign another top FA they'll have a thin roster. But like I said before, it's a trade that had to do.

They got worse package now then in Feb when kuzma and zubac were included

Did you not see the picks and swaps?

There swaps aren't any major deal I suppose.. The Lakers will probably be better than the Pels so the Pels will keep their own pick

Lakers going to be really bad in 23 and beyond. Pelicans easily won trade. Way too much for Lakers to give up. Stop at 2022 for christ sakes, but all the way til 25? Jesus. Pelinka is a moron.

Without a crystal ball, it's impossible to say.

They certainly COULD be amazing picks...

BUT if they're able to lure more players during that time frame, who really knows?! In the end if the Lakers get another top FA even a Kemba or Butler and would be a potentially multiple championship CALIBER core, no one in LA will feel bad/dumb for having made that move.

they gave up 3 picks (2019 was never going to be used by the lakers) and 2 swaps. We dont even know if NOP will be good for sure. Boston stole all those pick from the Nets, and the nets are about to take the star player they used those picks to trade for away from them.

If there is one thing we can learn about bostons "war chest of picks" is they are overrated at times. They got tatum and brown(if they both pan out then great) but they also let alot of picks go to waste with the kyrie trade and not trading for Kawhi, Jimmy, PG or AD.

Butler doesn't make sense. The Lakers would have 3 starters who aren't good point shooters

Butler isn't a terrible shooter. If he's the best FA they can get then I think they should do it.

Also...it's interesting that Anthony Davis won't sign an extension until next Summer. I know it's for financial reasons, but if things don't work out this year...

I don't know, but

2014 1st (7)
2015 1st (2)
2015 1st (27)
2016 1st (2)
2017 1st (2)
2019 1st (4)
2021 1st
2023 1st
2024 1st
2025 1st

For AD and Kuzma? 10 first round picks!

That is epic mismanagement!

The Pelicans basically buy themselves a medical insurance for AD in the future. Those swap rights would look huge if AD couldn't stay healthy.

You do realize the Pels could end up winning this trade in the long-haul? All the picks and swaps are unprotected. Lebron is turning 36 next year. Davis has struggled with injuries throughout his career and probably won't agree to an extension until next summer. Their championship window is like 2 years.

There's a good chance that all those draft picks end up being top 10 picks.

Or if Lebron ages poorly. Or if Davis walks when he sees that things aren't looking good going forward in LA. Very dangerous.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

this is wrong. the 2014 and 2015 picks are for the max cap this summer. If the lakers land say kawhi(hypothetical) then they got AD kawahi and Kuz for those picks. They would end up with 2 top 10 talents.

The Lakers would easily get another max players. But Griffin makes sure that his picks are well covered in case AD or that max player has any big injury.

It's a price the Lakers have to pay as you said. You don't save those swap rights and picks for missing a championship window. On another hand Griffin is smart to ask and he has protected the Pelicans the best interest.

No one ignores that. It's still one big injury away from making them a lottery team even if they get another max player.

I like the future New Orleans will have. Zion at 1; and who knows at 4, maybe the top sf available or top wing. New Orleans has a super bright future with a ton of depth.

Realistically, how many first round picks does it take to draft a player equal to AD?

10-15? Assuming someone that good even comes along again in the next 15 years and you're in position to draft him.
