Re: 2019 NBA draft part deux
If Brandon Clarke is really a "boom or just be really good player" draft prospect, he obviously wouldn't be falling to our pick; I am someone who actually likes the guy, but this is getting ridiculous, there ARE massive inherent risks with drafting him.

I'm going slightly overboard to counter some really ridiculous $hit. However, I think he is virtually risk free and could be an all star down the road. Hopefully Shawn Marion 2.0.

Well those 2 things are kind of important especially if we don't want players shooting long 2s
Everything is important. What he does spectacularly well more than makes up for what he doesn't. Also don't worry about long twos from Clarke. He's very good at getting his shots from closer than long two range. Would you have passed on drafting Shaq because he couldn't make FTs or shoot outside of ten feet?
C’mon now KG this one is quite ridiculous. I see the fit with Clarke but there are definitely red flags with him as well. Clarke is not a physical specimen like Shaq

I'm talking about the concept of a player having strong points that outweigh their weak points. The Anti-Clarke crowd acts like if you aren't able to shoot the 3 well you're worthless. I think that is ridiculous.

I get you were being hyperbolic. As far as shooting the 3 ball it does make it easier to defend when a player isn’t a threat from outside, as we saw with Rubio in late game situations and GSW with Draymond. Now, Clarke might develop a decent jumper with time but right now he’s mostly a threat around the rim. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim some but his bread and butter is hustle and defense. We definitely need a good defender next to KAT so I understand why people like him. Age and size raise red flags but with it not being a particularly strong draft I think I would be okay with him. I personally like Kabangele from FSU more

Don't forget the 52% on jumpers. It's all how you spin it in who you think will be the best player. It's actually pretty easy to spin that Zion won't be very good. Too short and not much of a shot. Stuff like that. I like Clarke for already being an extremely almost historically good college player. Something about him and Zion having the best per ever or something like that. I'm a big fan of defense and his defense is very good. We will see. Maybe the Suns take him at 6. If Clarke does get drafted before us it could easily move someone desirable to our 11 pick. I'm not locked in on Clarke as if he is the only choice.

Those cases are very different, especially Rubio.
A major reason why Rubio's lack of shooting kills offenses late in games is because he is a guard. His lack of shooting allows defenses to pack the paint. Last I checked, Brandon Clarke isn't a guard.
As for Draymond, it's the opposite. If he's shooting, it's what made the Death Lineup so effective. Green plays center in those lineups with four perimeter players. If Draymond is shooting well, it causes the opposing center to have to come out to guard him, which then creates attacking lanes for everyone else.
Clarke probably wouldn't be defended by a center most of the time, especially if he's playing with Towns. If so, it only helps the Wolves as it means a smaller PF would be defending Towns. And Clarke has the quickness to get around most bigger centers too. He's essentially a SF when it comes to mobility, do you really think a team wants a Jokic or Nurkic defending a SF?
Everyone talks about how Clarke will struggle against guys who are bigger, stronger. However, consider it going the other way too. Many of those players will likely struggle against someone who is quicker, bouncier.
Finally, what makes adding a "non-shooting" Clarke, that concern is mostly mitigated by Towns' perimeter ability. You do remember Towns, right? He's really good on the perimeter. Why does Houston start a non-shooting Capela? Don't they know that 3-pointers are important?

It is pretty funny that people are so locked in on Clarke being a major bust because of his arms, but yet those same people proclaim Zion as the second-coming when he has some of the same concerns about arm length/reach.

Yep. You can always find a way to spin things. Of course Zion weighs about 80 pounds more than Clarke so he obviously needs to lose a lot of weight or he will be slowed and injury prone in his career.

Oh baby... entertaining stuff going on here.
If the Wolves pick Clarke then I trust it, but he’s not my preferred pick. That shooting form is sooo ugly and you would not think it would work in the NBA. If the hope is that he’s Draymond, it doesn’t seem like he has near the passing or IQ of Draymond, but I’d be willing to let it play out and see how it goes.

I can see Clarke falling into 20s. Draymond can defend any bigman in NBA, while Clarke will be killed in postup. And yeah, his shooting form make Draymond look as Steph Curry.
So following characteristics I would like to see in our #11 pick
* - wingspan for position
* - 18-20 yrs old
* - not broken shooting form
* - good motor
* - defensive potential
P.S. Seikou has same standing reach as Siakam. However he has not so big hands, which is clear as he has soft release, but can hurt his finishing ability (see Wiggins example)

Re: 2019 NBA draft part deux
I will settle for motor and IQ, the rest can be compensated by those two. Obviously to a certain extent, but that's almost always the case with an 11 pick.

Clarke isn't going to be a max type star, but he's the role player type that will help you win. I think people are focusing on what he cant do and aren't giving enough value to what he can do.

Re: 2019 NBA draft part deux
I have no problem picking Brandon Clarke, but he has really obvious limitations that should be acknowledged. I have seen him compared to Shawn Marion, but it is important to keep in context that (coming out of college two whole years younger), Shawn Marion was substantially more advanced as a shooter, weighed more, and had a wingspan that has been estimated to be around seven feet and two inches wide. There are guards (for example, Kevin Porter Jr.) that weigh more and have longer wingspans than Brandon Clarke and for context, he weighs even less than Cameron Reddish (who has a wingspan that is over four inches longer).
I personally like Brandon Clarke a lot, and think he will carve out a career, but he has MASSIVE limitations and has mediocre-to-poor measureables for a Small-Forward, much less for a Power-Forward. Fortunately he is a phenomenal athlete, but these are crazy red flags.

Draymond has regressed greatly as a shooter and he doesn’t even have the confidence to pull the trigger most of the time. Teams that play effective defense against the Warriors completely sag off of him to play help defense. Ben Simmons is another player who becomes way less effective because of his lack of shooting and it hurts the team in late game situations.
Clarke and Towns playing together will basically make KAT an exclusive outside player because there will be no room in the paint to operate when they are on the floor together.

Since Clarke appears to be a Shaq-Zion hybrid, we should probably take him.
