Idk why but the trade Hayward stuff really annoys me. The guy has had no chance to show how good he can be. He was just coming off injury last year into a group that clearly didnt trust or like that he was playing. Next year he will have finally had an offseason and time to prepare. I really want to see him get and play. There were some games where he was the best player on the floor. He still has that in him. Consistency will come with a consistent role and confidence (in himself and his teammates in him) which will come with a good offseason/preseason camp

I never stopped believing in gordon hayward. Which is another reason I wanted AD. I really feel like hayward will return back to his all star self. I refuse to believe that injury will make him suck for the rest of his career.

But I'd prefer the team to move on, even if they can get Rozier at a discount.
It only takes one team to make offer. But yes getting Rozier back for Smart number would be good. If I'm not mistaken Danny offered something similar last year, can not remember.

Preference:
Hayward / Smart / Tatum / Horford / Baynes
Beverley / Brown / Ojeleye / Jamychal / Williams
#14 / #22 / UV / vet minimum
Trade Yabusele + #20 for a useful vet (UV). Non-tax team. Championship (I'm maybe kidding).
Prediction:
Rozier / Brown / Tatum / Hayward / Horford
Smart / Bullock / Ojeleye / Jamychal / Baynes
#14 / #22 / vet minimum / Yabusele / Williams
#20 is stashed. Non-tax team. Championship (I can't help myself sorry).

I can also go after Rubio or Beverley if I can't get Russell.
I'm with you on the PGs to pursue, but I think you and others here are underestimating what to expect from Hayward this coming season and how much our "young core" needs someone with his smarts and savvy play to complement them. He could well end up being their best player next season.

Just curious did you guys look at the link comparing Rondo/Bev/Rubio/Rozier/Collison? NBA reference allows you to compare players. Collison is by far the best all around PG that will be affordable yet I keep seeing Rubio. Idk why.

I wouldn't go after Russell at all. Conley, Rubio or Rondo(Beverly too but as bench guy on the non tax payer MLE and he's not much of a PG, he's just listed as one)...
Good assessment:

No, I think there is a real possibility that Hayward will return to form, and I hope other teams believe that as well. The question is, if he returns to his Utah self will that be good enough to propel the Celtics to a championship? If not, move him for younger, cheaper players.
You can make the argument that his smarts will help the youngsters, but they didn't need him in 2017-18 and they are two years older than they were then. Why should they need him now?
The Knicks could sell Hayward as their star and try to convine the fan base that they were doing everything possible to improve. If they don't make a move, they will have to sign crappy free agents to bloated one-year deals and try again for a 14% chance to win the lottery.
The Mavs are another team that could really use a third star. I'll take Justin Jackson for Hayward in a heartbeat. Then they'd have Doncic, Hayward and the Zinger to sell to their fans. Yes, I realize that Hayward and Doncic are a little redundant, but Doncic is really their point guard, not a forward.

The worse thing that happened with the Celtics was the run deep in the playoffs last year. To note, the run was based on the Celts defense.
So call careers were made on that run. Terry Rozier stinks, his career to date is awful other that the damn run. Even he thinks, he's a super star. AYFKM!
His point guard skills a laughable. That crazy dribble of his, the hesitation to drive or not sure if he should shoot (or where to go with the ball for that matter) at the top of the key and the complete lack of creativity. I would rather watch Hallmark movies with the wife, than to watch him play point. The PG position lends its self to the media after each game and I will have to listen to the idiot. He a buffoon, his ego is laughable and the media exposed him for the idiot he is, a couple weeks ago.
PS This idiot think he's as good as KI. There teams in the NBA lined up to give KI a max contract do you think TR would get that type of offer from anyone!!!!! He does.

Yes, so what's wrong with that? Maybe with Kyrie gone they can find a point guard who actually plays defense.

Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread, 2019 – Welcome to the Party, #2
Here are my priorities at this point:
1. Talk to Al and see what he's thinking. If he wants to stay, then so be it. He is the leader of this team. We need him to mentor Williams too.
If he doesn't want to stay, start looking around for possible trades to a contender. Doesn't have to be for much. Expirings and a pick is fine. Al has earned the right to play for a ring.
2. Talk to Terry and see where his head is at. Tell him he will get more playing time, but staying doesn't necessarily mean he will be a starter. Smart has also, IMO, earned that job. If Terry insists on being a starter, then start thinking of sign and trades. Again, due to BYC, we won't get much. A TPE, or even a solid backup PG would be good.
3. Pack Marcus Morris' bags. Just no room for him. Plus I don't want Rich Paul anywhere close to Ainge.
4. Tell Semi and Rob Williams that they will ne getting a ton of touches during summer league. Both guys are going to see more minutes next year. Might as well see what we have.
5. Look at trading up in the draft. This is assuming Danny sees someone he really likes.
6. Look at draft and stash options if we can't consolidate picks.
7. Name Horford or Smart the captain of the team. No more of this "letting the locker room police themselves" junk. We need a pecking order.

Same. I’m a broken record with this one but I firmly believe you shouldn’t trade somebody you courted in free agency. Especially with the circumstances, he’s putting in the work too.
I think we’re going to see a whole new Hayward this year and it’s going to crap on a lot of parades

So my side note is what your replying to! Its has very little to do with my over all comment.
Let me make it easy. TR sucks!!!!! If TR is your starting PG your are in serous trouble.

I'm with you both on this. If anything, Hayward could end up being both their best and their most important player next year.

Re: Celtics General Offseason Thread, 2019 – Welcome to the Party, #2
Not a cap expert by any means, but some trade ideas:
If white and garland are gone by 7, can we trade the bulls a picks package to move up and get Sekou? Maybe they want Rozier? Id love to pick up an earlier 2nd and nab Louis King. Draft Sekou or Reddish at 7.
My knowledge of the changes made to sign and trades is iffy but could we trade Kyrie and 22 for Taurean Prince and 27 and generate a giant trade exception? The trade exception to use in place of matching salary would be well worth moving down 5 spots and give the nets the incentive to do the deal.
Here's a weird one. John wall to knicks after they strike out, #9 to knicks from wiz, #22 to knicks from boston, Rozier at 14 million to wizards, #55 to celtics from knicks. Wiz would give knicks a pick swap option next year too. Knicks miss out free agents but get some firsts and gamble that Wall isnt just done. Celtics downgrade a pick from 22 to 55 but get a good size trade exception to help facilitate another move.
Butler and/or Tobias Harris leave, Tatum and Rozier for Simmons. Cs rebalance the roster, simmons, brown, hayward, horford, baynes or other versions with horf at the 5. Sixers start rozier, butler, tatum, fa, embiied. Or resign reddick and play tatum or butler at the 4. (Or butler leaves rozier, redick, tatum, harris, embiid). A shooter works better with embiid (and butler) than simmons.
If Horford were to leave and we operate as an under the cap team, could we say sign and trade Theis for 1 year at 10 mil into someone elses cap space. We retain the space but also get a trade exception, or are trade exceptions only generated for over the cap teams?
Throwing a bunch of **** at the wall here, probably none will still, but the AD and Kyrie stuff is over, lets get creative and upgrade our team.

Al's probably happy Kyrie's gone given how that relationship worked. It'd be good to resign him for his leadership, his skills and his eventual use as a trade piece.
