The player to be named later from the Nationals in the Wily Mo deal is AAA player Chris Carter.
The 24-year-old Carter is tearing it up at the Triple-A level, batting .324 with 18 homers and 84 RBIs in 126 games for the Tucson Sidewinders of the Pacific Coast League. In Triple-A last season, Carter belted 19 homers and drove in 97 runs to go with a .301 batting average.
Seems like a good fit. I don't think we have many guys with a lot of pwoer in the minors. Maybe if we don't resign Lowell he can win the first base job in spring training next year with Youk moving to 3rd.
PTBNL = Chris Carter

Look at that IsoP. Odd how he never got a shot at the 1B job in Arizona.

Granted he plays in the PCL which is a bigtime hitters paradise, but that's some good power for a guy who doesn't K a lot.
Definitely opens the possibility of moving Youkilis to third and moving Carter to 1B next year. Pretty unlikely, but it's a possibility I guess.

I know Lowell's defense is declining, but Youk was always pretty suspect at 3rd. And if Carter is as bad defensively as I've heard I'd be scaaaaaaaaaared to see our infield defensively. Youk, Carter, and Lugo. EGH!
If nothing else Carter gives us some power off the bench and a back up 1B. He seems like a cheaper, younger, and better player to fill the role Hinske does.

J.D. Drew since joining the Red Sox... ahh let's not go there...

It's the perfect example of how a player with potential will produce if you just give him playing time, confidence and have patience with his development... the Red Sox had neither with WMP and so they invested big time.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...
