Tell Goran Dragic to opt in, then trade him to Dallas.

Post#1 » by Grumpy Heat Fan » Sun May 19, 2019 10:33 pm

1. The Mavericks are interested in trading for Mike Conley. So they are in the market for Dragic.

2. Goran Dragic and Luka Doncic are best friends. Luka said that Goran is his NBA mentor. They both play on the Slovenian national team. If Goran was in trade talks with Dallas, I'm sure Luka would be happy about it and mention it to Mark Cuban.

3. Goran Dragic would love to play with his best friend in Dallas. So he wouldn't be upset at the trade at all.

This scenario makes sense for all teams involved.

Do not let Goran Dragic leave the Heat for free. We have a viable trading partner that is perfect for all parties. And we get assets in return.

EDIT : fixed, changed Serbian to Slovenian

The new guys won't understand that gif, i had a lot of fight (i know for a change) with the slovenian community on that board, in the last quarter Goran was always disappearing, the question was "if it was true or not"

we're not getting any damn assets for Dragic. If he wants to play for Dallas let him opt out and wish him well.

It’s be better for Dallas to give up even a 2nd round pick or 2 and get Dragic or a 1 year deal over having to give him possibly a 3 year deal in FA.

If you trade for him, you guarantee you get him. I could see a team like Phoenix going after him and drafting a wing.

Just get rid of him. I don’t care how. A second rounder will do.

I think Dallas would definitely like to have him, and at only a one year rental I think it makes sense for them. We could net a few second round picks I think

Dallas wouldn't. Dallas will be looking for a star pg, youngish pg with star potential or a two way pg. Unfortunately, Dragić is none of the above. Mavs will be looking at free agents Kemba, Dlo, Brogdon. If they miss on that then they'll try to get Conley. Patrick Beverly is also supposedly a target. Only if all of that fails, will they be coming to get Dragić, and the offer would be cap relief, maybe a second rounder or two, no Brunson, imo.

If that’s the case, then why would they want Conley over 30 on his deal?

At the end of the day Dragic is known to be Doncics mentor, so if Dallas misses out on guys like Kemba I could See Goran making a ton of sense.

I agree Though they prob wouldn’t give Brunson, however I’d give Dragic for pick 37 and a future 2nd

I didn't say they are looking for youngsters. I meant, they are looking for:
1. a star pg (Kemba is 29)
2. a two way pg (Beverly will be 31 in july)
3. a younger player with the potential to be either 1. or 2.

Conley is a two way player, Dragić is not. 2020 is a down FA year, so the Mavs can afford Conley's two year deal, if they arent't able to get one of the younger FAs or a cheaper role player. Mavs don't have the assets to realistically go after Conley though.

The Mavs could go in a different direction, leave pg duties to Doncic, and sign a wing "star" player (Middleton, Harris,...). This way Beverly makes even more sense, or using the trade exception to get Goran.

What the heck is Dallas supposed to be trading for Conley?

Dragic on an expiring deal could be very interesting to them. Don't discount the Luka connection. It would be amazing for sales - did you see what happened in the crowd when they played down here? It was the craziest thing I've witnessed with my own eyes at a regular season game.

Could also see Utah interested in Goran if they miss out on Conley.

Sorry, but I'd trade him for close to nothing. Same with every player on this team outside of Rich, Winslow, Bam, DJJ, & #13.

Barring something unexpected, this team as presently constructed NEEDS to get back into the lottery next year.

Unless the 13th pick looks like Donovan Mitchell or we acquire a star player some insane way with the garbage assets we have..... we should be gunning for a top 4 pick.
