My preference is to do something like a reverse of the horrible Pasecniks trade. Something like 24 and 42 to the Suns for 32 and that future Milwaukee protected pick.

If they’re taking Cam Johnson, which would fit with everything they’ve said... I definitely would like them to trade back and get an additional asset.

Yikes, I hope Cam isn’t who we’re grabbing.

If Cam is the pick at 24 I hope we use a couple 2nd rounders to gamble on guys with some upside, just to balance things out.

I like what Johnson offers. Having 4 picks in the second round will be perfect for taking a gamble.

Uhg, What a waste. Cameron Johnson won't be able to do a darn thing better than Furkan Korkmaz and he's 2 years older than Korkmaz.

Last year the 76ers drafted (traded for) all guys they worked out in Camden 2x. The 76ers hadn't been a team under Hinkie or Colangelo that worked out 1st round picks before making decisions.

The only guys I've heard that were brought in to Camden 2x this year were Bazley and Brantley. There may have been more that I missed though.

Where did you see that Brantley worked out twice? In May it was reported that he would be working out in Philly, but that it was set for a later date... most likely the June 11 date that was his only workout.

Brett loves these one dimensional players if they can shoot the three. Can this guy even defend the three position because he dang sure won't be able to defend the four. At 24 I would rather take a higher upside player like Bazley.

I wanted to combine some mock drafts for a better picture of the landscape. I looked at 5 separate mock drafts (nbadraft.net, tankathon.com, draftsite.com, drafttek.com, cbssports.com).

Top ten is almost unanimous among all 5, but order differs on 4-10
1. Zion
2. Ja
3. RJ
4-10. Darius Garland, Coby White, DeAndre Hunter, Jarrett Culver, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes, Sekou Doumbouya
(One draft has Doumbouya at 11 instead of in the top 10.)

Then things diverge. Below is everyone who made the top 34 in any of the four mock drafts, and their slots in each one.

First, 8 players that everyone agrees will be off the board before the Sixers' #24 selection:
Nassir Little: 11, 15, 13, 13, 12
PJ Washington: 12, 13, 18, 16, 17
Rui Hachimura: 13, 18, 11, 11, 13
Tyler Herro: 14, 21, 21, 15, 14
Romeo Langford: 15, 16, 17, 22, 16
Goga Bitadze: 17, 14, 12, 19, 22
Brandon Clarke: 18, 11, 14, 14, 10
Bol Bol: 20, 12, 20, 20, 21

Then 11 players who may or may not be there depending on which list you consult. Pick your top 6 from this list. The Sixers can get one of those players. Ordered by how many mock drafts say the player will still be available:

(1/5) Keldon Johnson: 16, 19, 28, 18, 20
(1/5) Nickeil Alexander-Walker: 26, 17, 16, 12, 15
(2/5) Matisse Thybulle: 23, 25, 22, 48, 23
(2/5) Cam Johnson: 32, 22, 24, 21, 18
(3/5) Mfiondu Kabengele: 22, 26, -, 27, 19 (draftsite.com forgot Kabengele completely?)
(3/5) Kevin Porter: 30, 20, 15, 30, 24
(3/5) Grant Williams: 36, 24, 19, 17, 27
(4/5) Bruno Fernando: 19, 28, 35, 26, 30
(4/5) Eric Paschall: 21, 40, -, 41, 35
(4/5) KZ Okpala: 25, 27, 23, 25, 28
(4/5) Chuma Okeke: 27, 36, 26, 23, 39
(4/5) Luka Samanic: 29, 23, 27, 32, 29

And then 11 players where all 5 say they will be available at #24, but at least one mock draft has them taken #34 or earlier:
Ty Jerome: 24, 30, 32, 29, 25
Dylan Windler: 28, 34, 34, 28, 32
Darius Bazley: 31, 31, 33, 50, 38
Carsen Edwards: 33, 33, 31, 31, 37
Nicolas Claxton: 34, 29, 25, 43, 26
Daniel Gafford: 35, 37, 47, 34, 34
Luguentz Dort: 39, 32, 36, 24, 33
Talen Horton-Tucker: 51, 35, 30, 38, 36
Tacko Fall: 54, 55, 48, 33, 56
Deividas Sirvydis: -, 41, 29, -, 41
Admiral Schofield: -, 44, -, 35, 31

I could accept Cam Johnson if we back it up with defense: Nicolas Claxton and Daniel Gafford.

Shamorie Ponds (54), Terance Davis (42), Cam Johnson (24), NIcolas Claxton (34), Daniel Gafford (35).

I'll walk into any gym with that five and stay on the floor for hours.

The closer we get to draft night, the more I want Nicolas Claxton's upside. The way he gets in his stance against point guards puts him way over the top for me. At 7'0, I swear he wants to be a small forward. He likes to handle the ball in open court. He's a taller Jeremi. It may take as long to develop his shooting, but he loves to shoot the three already. He could be a bust like Anthony Randolph. But I think the ballhandling separates them.

claxton and gafford are my must haves. i would go claxton 24, gafford 34, t.davis 35, ponds 42, lawson 54.

now, whereas i think daniel gafford is who he is already and could contribute off the bench from day one, i'd want claxton in the g-league for two years as a focal point of their offense before bringing him up to the big club. i'd want to add claxtonto the starting lineup after ben's extension kicks in and we have to trade tobias to avoid luxury taxes.

I know the Sixes want dudes ready to come out the oven, though. :-(. The thing about Shamet was that he was a point guard with size, which meant he could use those dribbling and passing skills off the ball to complement his shooting. I can't say the same for Cam Johnson's other skills. Gonna go back and watch some UNC tapes and convince myself he can do other things besides shoot.

Does Cam Johnson pass the "Doug McDermott test"? A prolific shooter as well as scorer, he plain and simply can't defend nor beat a closeout off the dribble in the NBA. Can Cam defend and handle the rock better than Doug McDermott?

I will say that I am inclined to defer to the front office after making solid choices with landry and shake. good thing summer league is so close after the draft so we can see.

*looks like it might be hard to consolidate picks for a move up since the Atlanta Hawks also have a store full of picks (6).

I've settled on Thybulle or Johnson. I'm an upside guy like 90% of the time, but in this case I'd be fine if they went for an NBA ready guy. Korkmaz and Luwawu were upside picks, they didn't work out. They often don't, and I just want a guy to come in that the Sixers know for certain what skill he brings and you plug him in and get that skill. Because one thing we absolutely cannot have happen from this draft is to get a bunch of zeroes.

Not that the "NBA ready" types can't be busts too, they can, but with Johnson at least you know what you're getting. He can flat out shoot and I find it highly unlikely he'll go to the NBA and not be able to shoot. He possesses that skill. He can space the floor for Simmons and Embiid and yeah he might get cooked on D, but at least we'll be able to score. I'd be cool with Thybulle also because of his defensive upside and I think shooting potential. Just have Philly Washington Huskies PTSD lately with Fultz and Sidney Jones.

I hope Kabengele falls to 24 and Cam to 33. That's best case scenario. Then Claxton at 34 sounds great.

"You're looking for a guy that can contribute right now," Brand said, "which starts with a specific skill where Brett [Brown] can look down that bench and say, 'All right, I need defense. … Oh, I need some shotmaking. The defense might not be there or something else might not be there, but I know I can get this from this rookie.' Just something that they can contribute right away and they might not be elite at it, but they'll be good at it."

It sounds like Cam Jonhson or Matisse at #24

re-watched the highlights of unc v. kentucky (12.22.18). shooting skill was evident. even took it to the hole three times with success, although it wasn't the prettiest. agile enough to bounce around and switch on defense. but just didn't seem to have any other effect on the game. passing, rebounding, pressure defense, weakside helping, finishing on the break? the most disappointing part is that unc was down in the guts of the game trying to make a comeback, and the senior super shooter is not even on the floor. they didn't even bring him in for offense when kentucky was shooting free throws. and this was december, when his knowledge advantage over the younger players should've been widest.

feels like a tall isaiah canaan to me... i would pray cam's length within the system make a huge difference between the two.

we already need a backup five who can anchor the second unit and be a spot starter. acquiring dedmon, bryant, nerlens, or whomever would be even more important if we were to draft cam johnson.

Thybulle is known to be a hard-nosed player, respectful, competitor, great BBIQ and he can contribute right now.
More than this his passion is art, a passion he shares wiith his parents: Brett did go nuts for sure...I image Thybulle powerpoint about "european arts during the XVII century"...Jimmy B will be entusiast LOL

Terence Davis and Tres Tinkle have been on my favs list for like three years now. Has the draft community became aware of their existence yet or are we about to steal them with late 2nds or UDFA signings?

Tinkle not so much, but Davis has to be fringe 1st at this point.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
