2019 FREE AGENCY: Speculation Thread
Figured this could be a fun general thread for discussions about free agents, news, rumours, but mostly chat about free agents who could be good for us, from cheap vets, to role players, to emerging names and in between.

Re: 2019 FREE AGENCY: Speculation Thread
I'm going to kick off first post, because this was mostly what I wanted to say but didn't want to dedicate a thread to it specifically.
Anyways, I've been wondering lately what Mario might look like if he rejoined our squad and started playing for someone like Clifford? He would come cheap, I don't see a massive demand for him. I'm thinking $2-3M per, for 2 years, with a player option after 1.
I would be intrigued to see how he'd hold up as a T-Ross replacement, and 6th man. He's versatile enough that he can play alongside Gordon or Isaac for staggered rotations. The kid isn't afraid to try and go score, but he's also great at creating for others as he does so. He could be a great point-forward option for the 2nd unit, and if his 3pt shot ever lives up to reputation, he could be potent. And maybe Cliff can finally get him to understand defense?
Worst case, he comes cheap, maybe becomes a bit of a Jonathon Simmons kind of blackhole presence, so we offload him or just let him go.
I've still got so much hope that the kid can figure it out, because he has shown flashes of some really special abilities. He's probably just another Lance Stephenson type, but I'd love to see him get a 2nd chance with a coach we all like and trust.

How about Bamba and Fournier for Bradley Beal? I would even throw in the 16th pick to get an all-star caliber shooter.

I was a big fan of him during the draft. We have a huge need at frontcourt depth. Let's go!

You would EVEN throw in the 16th pick? You'd have to give a lot more than that for Beal

Hezonja's 3-ball was awful last year, leading me to wonder if you think he would play SF or PF if he were to return to Orlando.
If PF, then the question is "is Hezonja an upgrade over Martin?" I would think the answer is yes, and at a 2-3M a year contract, sure why not.

Portis would be a huge upgrade over Martin. I wonder if a SnT for Frazier, the #16, and the #46 would be enough to extract him in a non-matched deal. I would guess the Magic would need to invest 60-80M for Portis to agree to all of this. So, 15-17M a year on a 4-year deal.

We should try for Trey Burke or Ntilikina , they might be very cheap.

I would LOVE to make this deal for Beal. I think he's starting to attain mythical status around here though. He would be great but it's not like he's super elite...the biggest concern is his upcoming $$$. I feel the same way about DLo, and Brogdon...good, no-potentially great players who could really shine with our roster but let's not mortgage everything to get them...Fortunately, I don't think WeHam is subject to that kind of blind financial lovefest. Same with Middleton.

Re: 2019 FREE AGENCY: Speculation Thread
Aside from resigning Vucevic and Ross, maybe, I kinda feel like our free agency impact will be minimal. I think next year or the year after we’ll become players after we can shed Fournier and Mozgov’s contracts. I hope the powers that be are exploring trades though. I think it’s addition by subtraction with Fournier. I’d love to somehow get Beal or McCollum. I’d gladly shed Bamba and picks with Fournier for those guys.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Retain Vuc
Hopefully the #16 = BPA = SG/SF
And then.... sign Taj Gibson.
I would be happy with that summer!

I would love to bring Mario back cheap. Wish we'd never let him go. I think he could have had a solid year under Clifford.

Yes there was a report we are one of 5 or 6 teams "interested" in him.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is the guy I'm interested in going after, he would be a good backup at the 3-4 then re-signing Ross, Birch and Briscoe.

Showing love for Jeremy Lamb. If we lose Ross, Lamb is a decent replacement.

There are a lot of opinion trends on this board that I don't get. The third-least understandable is the blind Vooch hate. The second-least is the continuing conviction that Elfrid Payton is about to blow up at any second.
But the one that is the least understandable to me is the unshakable belief in Mario Hezonja, a player with bad handles, low b-ball IQ, terrible defense, and a bad jump shot.
