2019 Draft Discussion

He seems to have a lot of what we (and Kemba) need from the 2 spot - but is he any better than Monk? He’s bigger thank Monk at least?

Also, how big a concern are his off-court red flags?

With the togetherness of our roster would that make our locker room the perfect place for him?

Hey Slam, The Stepien in the last 24 hrs posted a bolus of new in-depth scouting reports including this one on Porter Jr so you can read up and decide for yourself:
https://www.thestepien.com/2019/06/18/kevin-porter-jr-scouting-report/

But I saw this earlier, and his suspensions at USC were for being late and missing practices and smoking weed. I just don't think our organization can handle any knuckleheads, so Porter Jr is one of the 2 guys in this draft I hope we don't select:
Kevin Porter Jr. is a low-level passer and a low-level decision-maker. I didn’t see the high school tape. Maybe he was better there, but the college tape paints him as a prospect with JR Smith or Lance Stephenson type upside.

Ewwwwwww.

I checked out after I saw “low level” associated to passing and decision making.

Great find Snidely. Officially off him.

I went back and started looking at the history of drafts. It’s remarkable how many really good players are not on the teams that drafted them. I forgot Kawhi got traded from Indiana to SAS. Maybe we need to be more patient with guys like Monk. A lot of the all stars of today took 4-6 seasons to get there.

Adrian Wojnarowski, Shams Charania and Marc Stein all plan on reporting picks from the 2019 NBA Draft before they are announced by Adam Silver.

Before the 2018 edition, ESPN publicly said their reporters would not spoil picks before they are announced. Wojnarowski and Charania sat out the first three picks, which were broken by Stein. Wojnarowski then began using euphemisms while spoiling the picks.

“To me, it is just another reporting element,” Charania said. “On draft night, you are reporting about trades, undrafted free agents signings. For me, it is just another reporting topic.”.

This p*sses me off SO much.

Them busting the suspense and excitement of picks being officially announced ruins the draft night broadcast and experience for me.

Hate it.

Welp this is my last video post before the draft and I dedicate it to the NEW Batum. He plays just like Batum but better and a zillion bucks cheaper. Our #36 pick Joshua Obieshie. Highlights start at the 1 min mark of video.

I think I'm good with most selections we're reportedly interested in except Porter, Goga, and Bol.

Everything I read on Goga and Bol more or less confirm what I've seen from their highlights (and in Bol's case a couple of games). They're damn near unplayable in certain and often critcal situations. Kevin Porter is just one big red flag.

Anyone remember that Boondocks episode where Riley plays basketball. He turn outs to be super good at dribbling and running around with the ball buuuut that its. Not even average in anything else. That's pretty much Porter. If I were GM for the Hornets, I would be so damn tempted to take the risk on him in hopes he develops into the new James Harden, but I know we likely don't have the player development to make it happen. Im hopping he falls to a team like the Spurs or something in hope that they can unlock his potential.

Bonnells tweet where he said Goga essentially had 3 point range for a big man than a video where he built a small brick factory with no one guarding him amused me.

Trades before the draft for the hornets!

Post#1149 » by Jaybird2019 » Thu Jun 20, 2019 12:29 am

Let’s go ahead and gamble and trade for Paul. Yeah he is too expensive and old, and we all ready have a of. But listen we trade N.Batum,M. Williams,C Zeller for Paul and cappella. Capella would be the sweatner and a pick if we have too. Whiteside wants to be a hornet so trade next year pick and Biyombo for him. All the trades work with money on ESPN trade machine.
Lineup:
1. Pg. Chris Paul
2.sg. Kemba Walker
3. Sf. M.bridges
4.pf. C Capela
5.c. H. Whiteside
Pretty good lineup to me and we get rid of all our bad contracts for one crappy one.

I still expect #12 to get traded. PJ Washington is still my guy if they keep it though. He's not a sexy swing for the fences pick, but he can play both ends of the court, has great length, and has modern skills in terms of shooting, switching, etc.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I don't want Rui, Clarke, Porter, Hayes, or Little. I'd rather not be the team to take the risk on Bol Bol either, but the intrigue with him is enough that I'd still be excited, at least initially.

Yeah Capela and Whiteside ... well at least we’d grab every rebound.

One day before the draft my guys are: Rui, NAW, Romeo, and Bitadze in that order

My “Please do not pick or I will slam my hand on the table of the bar I’m watching at” are: Clarke, PJ, and Hayes in that order

Picks like Bol and Porter would give me hella mixed feelings, and likely an audible laugh.

Wow, I would have completely missed this year's draft if not for someone in another thread mentioning how it was coming up soon. Isn't it like usually at the end of June? June 20th seems pretty damn early. I'm not big on the draft myself, I always voted to just trade the pick in most of those votes we used to have, but is there any idea about who we plan to take or if we plan to make any draft night trades?

I know this might sound weird but there is something about Rui Hachimura that reminds me a lot of Kawhi Leonard.

I would be furious if we picked up Reddish. Dude shot 35.6% at the college level. I don't care how pretty his shot is if it doesn't go in the hoop.
