Al Horford

Post#1 » by cellphonecamera » Thu Jun 20, 2019 12:52 am

Should the Lakers go after him? He's very underrated. Great defender. Not so great rebounder but you already have Anthony Davis who can handle that. What do you guys think?

The easiest no thank you. I've been reading 4 years 100 mill. Where are we getting that after adding Leonard?

I think the idea is Horford if we strike out on Leonard... Which would be injury to insult IMO... Pass.

And stop reading articles that deliberately assume worst case for the Lakers.

"They're not going to have a max slot"
"Kawhi won't go there"
"Butler, Kyrie, won't go there"
"They're going to max Horford and bring Carmello in to round out the roster."
Never have rice at Hanzo's house...

Horford will assuredly get richer offers elsewhere. Rumor is the Mavs are targeting him, which is great for us as they have a few FAs on the market that I wouldn’t mind swooping in to grab. Kleber, Powell, Burke, and Broekhoff.

No. Thank you.
Top targets should be Kawhi, Butler, Kyrie, and shooters, shooters, shooters.
Kemba and Horford are much lower down on the list for me.

No chance, not on that 100 million over a long term deal.

Kawhi should be options 1 through 5, then Butler, then break that max up.

Al Horford is a good player but here are the reasons why you should or should not sign him:

There are reports linking Horford to a 4 year 100M contract. If this is the case then you don't sign him. Kawhi and Butler should be the focus if we are talking about that price.

If Davis really prefers to play the 4 spot then signing Horford to play 5 could be considered but only if the price is reasonable. You only do this if Kawhi or but Butler ain't coming to the Lakers. And what I mean by reasonable price is you sign Horford but also leaves you enough space to sign at least one decent / starter quality guard.

Bottom line is Horford is a good acquisition if we could have him in a cheap / reasonable price.

AD prefers playing PF, therefore I suspect we will need to sign a dedicated C. With that said it may be a poor investment to go after Horford with a large slice of the pie.
Nerlens Noel appears to be the most proven defensive talent that can be picked up w/ limited funds.

Preferably a larger stake of our $$$ would be used to acquire a reliable young perimeter shooter; leaning towards J Lamb or T Ross.

I think it's very unlikely that we get horford. I do like the idea if LeBron plays point and we sign Danny Green for cheap.

It seems that Horford is a long shot due to monetary considerations but another C I'm interested at is Nikola Vucevic. I don't know how much money he will command but I think we should consider him just in case we fail to sign a max free agent.

I think the possibility of signing Danny Green for cheap is if we land Kawhi in free agency.

Horford is one of those guys you can plug in on any team and he'd automatically make them better. But at 33 rumored to make nine figures that's an easy pass; Mavericks/Clippers can have fun with that bidding war.

I find it amusing when fans try to reason why a player will join their respective team for a discount. Common justifications spouted are an interest to play w/ a key player, home town loyalty, and familial or networking interests. Despite all these intangible benefits, overwhelmingly players value money. I cannot begrudge them for shoring up a hearty nest egg.

Of course there are those handful of cases that offers hope where a player remarkably shows some salary altruism, but with the deep cap room broadly available this offseason I find difficult for someone forgo potentially millions. To quote Isaiah Thomas' unfilled remarks, "they know they’ve got to bring the Brinks truck out."

Speaking of Isaiah, I hope he does receive a decent contract. Unfortunately he had another rough season.
