Re: Pistons Trading for Tony Snell
If Detroit drafts a wing @ 15, I'm going to be interested to see how long it takes until the masses start griping that Snell is blocking the development of that prospect.

Re: Pistons Trading for Tony Snell
What the hell did people think we were going to do with Jon Leur ?
Needs this offseason
Back up Point Guard (really need a starter but whatever)
Two small Forwards
Back up Center
Depending on if you like Thon Maker we need a back up PF
Ways to fill these needs before trade:
MLE
15
45
As we know this roster is lacking in ALOT of areas .Getting Snell at least fills one of the SF needs and also gets us another shot at striking gold in the draft..What’s the issue ??
Did some of you think we were getting Bradley Beal next offseason with a bunch of expirings? Dame Lilliard? C.J??? Are you heartbroken that we’re not going to max out Draymond next summer ???
I don’t get this board at all
Guess y’all really wanted to split the MLE between Jake Layman and T.J Mcconell

Looking at the last 11 years, the people that fit into that category have been right WAY more than they've been wrong. Maybe it's time to put some respect on their basketball knowledge and stop trying to vilify the Piston fans that aren't blind homers since they seem to be the only ones that know what they're talking about.

Snell for laur was a slight win for us we needed a sf who can shoot and defend, I always felt he’s a minutes guy, if he got 30 min a game consistently like Bullocks and others he can put together solid numbers, I think bollock might get ten million unless he goes Golden State, plus we got another pick, I hope we move to the knicks for Frank Ntikilnia, than sign Seth Curry, draft another SF and we’re done I think got a wing, got younger talent, got backup pg’s and shooters

Re: Pistons Trading for Tony Snell
At #30 you're hoping for a player good enough to play some situational minutes, and then eventually a year or two down the road be good enough to be an 8th or 9th man type of rotational player. I wouldn't expect anyone to be good enough to be a starter for us at 30.
I would assume in the 25 to 35 range 50% of those players are out of the league in less than 5 years, 40% of them end up being solid bench players good enough to stick on an NBA team, and only about 10% of them end up being good enough to be long term starters in the league.

I thought this was a reasonable move. Like most, only time will tell. Leuer didn't look like such a bad move during his first season here until he got hurt.

If the Mavs get TJ Warren for Hardaway Jr without offering a 1st rounder, I'm going to really have to question if the Pistons GM knows what he's doing. Kennard+Leuer+15th pick could have been a better deal.

If they do that I would question if the Suns GM isn’t on crack. Warren is on a locked up good deal and Hardaway sucks while being overpaid, Cmon Neptune

Welp, the truth is the truth bro, it's been 11 years. You can be salty about it if you want to. You call it being miserable, I call it having a good grasp of the situation.

Agreed. I'm just saying if that happens, I'm dead a#s serious, I'm going to figure out how to become the next Pistons GM.

Nah, was just a general observation I voiced and not in direct response to anything or anyone.
I'm stoked I don't have to look at Jon Leur anymore myself. I absolutely loathed that signing from day 1, and knew him being completely useless was always going to be the outcome. The problem I have is, Leuer was just about to start to not being a negative. My argument is that the $10 mil of cap space he represented next summer could have fetched more value than Snell/#30. Detroit just needed to wait a little bit longer.
There won’t be as many teams looking to deal for cap space next year, the FA crop is far weaker.
Money this year is better than money next year, at least as I see it.
Of course it is. But its not like teams are going to stop trying to get better, and other teams stop trying to shed money.
On the flip side of that argument, there will also be less teams with cap space next summer. So the teams looking for cap space to facilitate trades, will have to pay a steeper price because supply will down.
It’ll be less of a sellers market than you’re thinking is the point I was making, with fewer teams looking for space.
There will be fewer teams with cap space, sure, but teams still make their plans based on who they could sign, and you’re not going to get a better prize for cap space if fewer teams are in that market to bid against each other.

Snell doesn't matter to me.. he'll contribute somewhat but this trade was to get #30. bucks did this deal cause they have much better players they need to resign and taking on #30s salary does nothing for them
pistons have to get this draft right
We didn't trade Jon Leuer. We traded an expiring contract.
We traded an expiring contract for Tony freaking Snell w/ an additional year commitment of $12 mil + a second round pick with a guaranteed contract.

If these same posters seen another team do that trade they would be like “ wish our GM was smart and take on a bad contract for a 1st”
Like WTF do you guys seriously want? I thought this was exactly the type of thing you guys bitch about wanting to do non stop. Now it’s I don’t want the salary and want to go for it now.

Exactly. LOL. And the guy they got can actually be useful, too. There are people that just get off on constantly complaining.

What about “well-known NBA analyst” confused you?
So you have to listen to 97.1 to get that type of insider info. Figured you were a Valenti idolizer but come on lol
Pretty sure everyone already knew he was a target seeing as we have the MLE to spend
What the hell are you talking about? Did I ever say I was rooting for insider info? I said I heard on the radio that a well-known analyst had created a list of blah blah blah so I brought it up here as an example of how people in this forum seem to think there are a lot more options available than the experts do.
And it was on the morning show. Valenti idolizer? LOL. No Michigan alum idolizes Mike Valenti.

That’s common sense he’s a target and you don’t need to post a link cause you heard it on the radio. If you actually discussed basketball instead of using RealGM as your personal diary to whine you would know he’s been linked here for a while.
