I don't know anything about Okeke, but the fact that he was called a steal, and an analytics darling who only fell off the map because of injury.

Well, sounds like we got a steal!

Is this in English?

Yes! :D

That’s a bold claim, considering “Okeke is a pick Iike and am glad it's not NAW” literally makes no sense.

But I applaud the effort.

Cheers. :)

what if that is what they were trying to do, but found no good deals? Can't trade just to trade. What if there was a risk of you losing your guy because you wanted to get better value? Mocks aren't everything.

If healthy, it's widely said he's a lotto talent. He gets a red shirt year and balls out next summer.

Acting like NAW aka "Courtney Lee" was going to be a franchise savior or something.

Chuma is probably not even playing this year, and we have a need for a backup PF. When he comes back, he probably won't be playing more than 20 minutes (and we have a need for a backup PF), so it doesn't mean we need to kick anybody off the team. We still have Fultz who we have traded for as our future PG and we don't know if we'll re-sign Ross yet or what will happen with Fournier or if he's traded.

So while it would have been GREAT to find a miracle scorer, if we didn't think they were there at that spot.. well.. don't settle for a guy you think has limited guard upside and try again in the next draft or in free agency or a trade.

So people are insufferable for wanting to take a guard instead of drafting another PF on a roster already loaded with FC players? Don't see it. Especially when a guy like NAW fits a need and was arguably the BPA. Chuma was mocking out in the second round. It just is mind boggling that we would take him here.

Tell me where Chuma fits next to Isaac/AG/Bamba. Is Isaac going to start at SG? I get saying the likelihood of us drafting a starting player at 16 was unlikely, but this draft had real potential starting level guard talent. I'd say it's understandable why someone would be upset after drafting him there.

Yes. Drafting for fit works if you're the Spurs or Warriors at the end of the first round.. for a team that may lose Ross, Birch, Vuc, and we don't know what trades we will make, it means that the player they think will have the highest upside will be drafted. We need shooters, Chuma can shoot. Is he the go to scorer we need? No, but acting like NAW or Little or whoever else people wanted are just as far away.

And why are we looking at #16 to start all of a sudden? If people don't think we should even start lottery picks here their first few seasons (Gordon, Mario, Bamba) throughout the years, why doesn't he fit as a solid backup PF for his first 1-2 years and then make the decision if we need to move any of BIG or even what happens with Vuc this year?

NAW was BPA on most boards, atleaset over Chuma. So that argument doesn't really work. It just so happened that he filled a need as well.

Nobody was claiming NAW was going to be a go-to scorer for us, but he was a player that could have came in next year and contributed immediately as a secondary playmaker and shot maker for us. Thats what we need most. A backup PF is a role that could have been much easier filled in free agency than the one NAW could potentially have filled for us next year. But to each is own. I can respect your stance, not sure how having mine given our current roster and last two drafts makes me insufferable, but cool.

He's a wing...the letters "PF" coming out of college mean nothing. He's 6'8, 230...Kawhi sized, high BBIQ, obviously a shooter, and supposedly a good D...I sure didn't see it coming but could be a versatile piece.

.......... 7' wingspan!!!!

Can someone find an archive of a mock that had him in the lottery?

ROFL

PER CBS pick by pick grade

16. Orlando Magic: PF Chuma Okeke, Auburn
If you told me four minutes before he tore his ACL that Okeke would be drafted this high, I would have believed you. He showed a ton of catch-and-shoot ability, and he was playing very well in the NCAA Tournament. But he probably will miss all or most of his rookie season. Grade: D
17. Brooklyn Nets: SG Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Virginia Tech
The Pelicans made this pick as part of a trade with the Hawks, who owned it. When I was covering the Maui Invitational with a ton of great players this past fall, Alexander-Walker's name came up with more than any other. He checks a ton of boxes and does a lot of things well, and he fits the Pelicans' needs next to Zion Williamson. Great pick. Grade: A
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Right here, this very moment.

Let it be known.

Since the glass is half full, I take this to mean that Fultz is well on the road to superstardom

Guards aren’t necessary to win in the modern NBA now anyways.

it's self-parody at this point.

i feel like we're gonna curse the season vuc bailed these guys out by giving the impression that they know how to build a roster and buying them time down the line.

I'm disappointed with Okeke right now but I'm glad it wasn't Bol Bol. And maybe this means WeHam knows Fultz is 100% or that they're confident in their offer for D'Lo.
