I like Okeke. Disappointed that it’ll likely be a season before we see him, but he’s a solid player. I’d be shocked if we acquired another late first.

Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Re: NBA DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION + DRAFT NIGHT THREAD
You can pick up a senior 3 and D wing in the 2nd round every year. NAW might be slightly more dynamic than one of those guys, but with his role at the NBA level it's almost negligible. I don't feel like we passed on much. Hell, meme or not, Bol Bol is more interesting to me than a guy like NAW or Johnson. Kevin Porter could be a player, but he's hardly a sure thing either. I get the argument to trade back, but if you think we literally just sat there and unhooked the phone, you don't really know what you're talking about. I'm willing to believe that Weltman can make a bad decision, but I won't entertain the suggestion that they didn't explore options.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.
- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

You guys kill me like you know he would be there later. The point is you don't know so if he's your guy pull the trigger. Also even if they wanted to trade down you need a willing partner. Maybe they tried and couldn't. None of us know

16. Orlando Magic: PF Chuma Okeke, Auburn
If you told me four minutes before he tore his ACL that Okeke would be drafted this high, I would have believed you. He showed a ton of catch-and-shoot ability, and he was playing very well in the NCAA Tournament. But he probably will miss all or most of his rookie season. Grade: D
17. Brooklyn Nets: SG Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Virginia Tech
The Pelicans made this pick as part of a trade with the Hawks, who owned it. When I was covering the Maui Invitational with a ton of great players this past fall, Alexander-Walker's name came up with more than any other. He checks a ton of boxes and does a lot of things well, and he fits the Pelicans' needs next to Zion Williamson. Great pick. Grade: A

Bruh every single person on NBA TV laughed at this pick.dude was mockd mid 2nd round, It’s absolutely MORONIC AT 16. You move back to 20 with Boston and get a 2nd round pick at least something but at 16 this is definition of REACH.
A backup PF when our Guard situation is DJ Fournier then a broken Fultz and that’s it.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

he is 230 lbs. his body was already there.

Re: NBA DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION + DRAFT NIGHT THREAD
Oh and stop it with the narrative that you're drafting for backups at #16, that's just wrong. You're content if you end up with an above-average backup, but you're aiming for a starter down the line, possibly more. There is no road for him to be a starter on his rookie deal unless something goes horribly wrong with JI (/AG).
Just give people some time to vent without going into full apologist mode immediately. The draft is something that you look forward to for weeks if not months, fantasizing about what players the magic could pick or even what great talent might fall into our laps. So when we get served up someone who is projected late first/early second round at pick #16, at a position of no need no less, people's feelings are gonna be hurt for a bit. Now it might work out splendidly in the future, because who knows anything at this point. But give other fans, who may not share you're opinion, a moment to be upset and vent without attacking them.

So it’s a D grade instead of an A because he tore an ACL?

someone who can create for themselves. Creating offense is a weakness of Okeke. Good shooter, bad creation.

PrimeThyme wrote:Nobody was claiming NAW was going to be a go-to scorer for us, but he was a player that could have came in next year and contributed immediately as a secondary playmaker and shot maker for us. Thats what we need most. A backup PF is a role that could have been much easier filled in free agency than the one NAW could potentially have filled for us next year. But to each is own. I can respect your stance, not sure how having mine given our current roster and last two drafts makes me insufferable, but cool.
Dunno why you're taking the insufferable comment so literal or projected strictly at you. It's more projected at the people that are going to whine the entire year until they either keep downing the kid or turn around and say they love the pick because he plays good. But I don't think that you're that type.
Just saying that throughout the years, EVERY SINGLE DRAFT people lose their **** and come around on players. I feel like it's easier to let things play out and then be like "Damn, we should've done this!" instead of people getting in a dick measuring contest about "I told you so's" when none of these players have even played a game yet.
And it's the same for every player fans give up early on. JJ Redick was crapped on for a while too. But imagine it being in this climate where one of the greatest college shooters of all time struggled to get playing time on a team that could use his exact skillset because of his defense and conditioning. People just need to breathe and realize this isn't the last draft for the Magic, nor the last free agency or trade opportunity they'll get.

Acting like NAW aka "Courtney Lee" was going to be a franchise savior or something.
Chuma is probably not even playing this year, and we have a need for a backup PF. When he comes back, he probably won't be playing more than 20 minutes (and we have a need for a backup PF), so it doesn't mean we need to kick anybody off the team. We still have Fultz who we have traded for as our future PG and we don't know if we'll re-sign Ross yet or what will happen with Fournier or if he's traded.
So while it would have been GREAT to find a miracle scorer, if we didn't think they were there at that spot.. well.. don't settle for a guy you think has limited guard upside and try again in the next draft or in free agency or a trade.
He's a tweener. He is undersized for a four, but doesn't have the quickness to defend wings. He competes. He has quick hands. Decent shooter. No shot facilitation. High energy. Pesky.
I honestly don't care that he is going to miss the season, but we reached on this pick. He is old for a sophomore and was very much a complementary piece for Auburn. I expect that he will grow on people due to his effort, but I don't see much upside. He was a nice college player, but he is going to be outmatched physically in the NBA.

I really want to know how Weltman plans to address our backcourt deficiencies. Even if Fultz returns to form, which you really can't count on, the backcourt is weak.

Btw who thought this was a good pick? The magic are also being trashed by people on the general board. Not many thought this was a good pick.
Magic got laughed at on nBa TV. Said we “analysts” had him mid 2nd. Makes no sense for a team who make playoffs and need help to draft a guy who won’t even play on year 1.
Not shocked at all lol.

Well, you have to find a partner to trade down, maybe no one wanted to trade up?
