Grant Williams thread

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:04 am

Lets hope Danny knows more then I do, don't like the pick he is an undersized 4 who might have been available in the 2nd...hard worker just too small for 4 in the NBA

At least this guy wasn’t a dick to the reporter. He didn’t have a chance, he wasn’t invited.

Agreed. 100%

Some of Danny's picks really puzzle me. This pick has JR. Giddens written all over it.

It is extremely questionable how much of his game will translate to the modern NBA considering his lack of ability to jump or move side to side.

Wish we took a risk on a player with better upside.

If he works out he's another "Draymond Green!!!" though.

Just please... don't be an exact clone of the Dancing Bear. I mean I know Ainge took him at 16 and he took you later in the first round... but real fear here this guy is just the Dancing Bear part 2.

He could be a good player. In fact I believe he will be a good player. With that said I am not a fan of players who are undersized for their position unless they have insane wingspan. And I also dislike the fact that Danny loves these types of players. My mind was set on Kabengele and I am disappointed we passed up on him.

I like the pick...love that he can get to the line...5.8-7.0 .819

I am not a big fan of undersized players but in todays league I think he can be successful and a real spark of the bench like Harrell...

On some mocks he was really high...

He's probably the closest thing to Draymond Green since Draymond Green - they've got very similar strengths and weaknesses. However, he is not as imposing as Draymond Green, which might make him more like Rodney Rodgers, which I think is a comparison I saw somewhere. Hopefully he is less douchey than Draymond.

Dude knows how to play. He is Sully if Sully cared about his body and played with a killer instinct. A little like Dray too

He and Semi in the same weight room will be fun!

In all seriousness, he's young, he gets to the line a ton, is super efficient around the rim, and his continually improving FT% and willingness to shoot suggests he can develop a reliable 3 point shot.

Sign me up. Could have done WAYYYY worse than Williams at this stage of the draft.

classic Danny pick. 6'6" PF who plays back to the basket and will be 21 y/o in November. High floor, low ceiling role player. Players still on the board: Little, Bol, Claxton, McDaniels, Windler, and Bazley. He's allergic to shooting and high upside players. He's the worst drafting G.M. of a supposed good team in the league. In his hubris, he refuses to embrace an actual rebuild through the draft. He's doing his best to keep us pretenders. There's no path to a championship for this team. He needs to be fired

Wingspan is only 6'9". Draymond has a 7'2" wingspan but Grant has bigger hands.

He is ridiculously small for the modern NBA. Feel like his paint game is going to be complete swallowed up and his help D is going to be trifling. Will probably be below average on the boards too. All about how well he can move those feet on the perimeter, hit Js and pass from the high post.

I feel like he would have been available a lot later than the Celtics drafted him. For undersized bigs, PJ Washington would have been a better fit in my opinion but he was gone too early.

Wingspan is 6'10 vs 7'1 for Dray, probably part of what makes Williams less imposing.

On the plus side - 5.4% body fat for Williams versus 11.3% for Draymond at the combine. He also beat Draymond on the three quarter sprint, and benched twice as many presses.

Also, Williams is under 21, Draymond was slightly older than 22 at the time of the combine.
