I’d rather of taken Jontay, Gafford or even Bol than this Martin dude.

I can tell we didn't do our homework in this draft. We took Cody Martin and Caleb Martin is the one who was herolded. Then we picked PJ Washington after we attempted to trade up. I am sure we weren't trying to trade up to grab HIM. That should be an indicator about how much we wanted him.

#52 Cody Martin
a good two way player from nearby Mocksville NC ...good size, plus defender, excellent playmaker, I like everything about him except of course he can't shoot 3s, which makes him CHA's quintessential choice for SG

Good Lord. I posted last week that the Hornets wouldn't be able to resist Cody Martin at 52. They took him at 36. Yikes. I'm going to bed.

What position does Cody Martin play? Hes listed as a forward at sports-reference.com, but in NBA.com's draft combine measurement database hes listed as a PG/SG and he averaged almost 5apg his last two years in college.

If hes a 6'7" PG that can complement Monk on the 2nd unit then he could be an interesting pick.

There is zero potential in Cody Martin. Don't see the reason there.

Some butt plug wrote:. Cody Martin | 6-6 | 190 | SG | Nevada | 23

It's rare to see a player with Martin's physical dimensions (6-6, 6-10 wingspan) essentially run point, but that's what he did for extended stretches at Nevada. He knows how to handle himself on either side of a pick and roll, and he plays with an excellent basketball IQ - a real "coach on the floor" type. He isn't the most explosive run-and-jump athlete and he's closer to 24 than most draft prospects, but a team can easily talk itself into Martin as a Malcom Brogdon-style contributor.

I don't care if you think Bol Bol only has a 5% chance of being able to stay healthy enough to play in the league. If hes there at 52 I feel like you have to take him, right?

Batum will handle PG duties until we can get Livingston or Exum

Honestly, I think the Martin pick is an indicator that we have no interest in using Batum at all next season. I wonder if we just sit him for a year and then stretch the final year of his contract, assuming we can't just trade him. Martin seems like he was picked because of his fit with Kemba and Monk.

I'm reading that he was playing PG at Nevada.

I'm OK with the Cody pick.

Bol Bol though ... I thought for sure he would go in the first round and bust. This is a huge slide.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Yeah, I'm just so used to any seemingly questionable move made by this franchise being pointless and turning out terribly that I assumed this was a wasted pick, but it actually kind of makes sense if he is an NBA ready 6'7" PG. I can at least see the reasoning in that case and it fits with the plan that the front office seems to be executing.

I've been clamoring the last year for a wing sized PG to pair with Monk/Kemba.

A 6'7 point guard that plays smart basketball sounds good to me. And it's not like he was a scrub coming out of HS either, he was a 4 star recruit.
