Finish this sentence: "The ONLY way this draft could have turned out better is if..... "

Post#1 » by _s_t_u_r_t_ » Fri Jun 21, 2019 3:59 am

I don't know that I've felt this good about a Hawks draft since we drafted David Thompson and Marvin Webster in the top 5 about 45-ish years ago. (Never mind what happened after that, of course.)

I wanted to come out of this thing with two high-ceiling players from among Reddish, Bol, Bouya or Bruno. Didn't look like that was going to happen after #4, of course. But it did.

How often can you come out of a draft feeling like your first pick was the cherry on top?

So, for me, the only way this draft could have been better is if we somehow came out of it with Ty Jerome.... really think he's going to prove to do some Ginobili kind of things before it's all over.

David Thompson and Marvin Webster??
Surely.. getting Marvin Williams was better than that??
What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of ****' a-holes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your freakin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy."

As it turned out, it's actually worse than that for us who think Bol will eventually stand out.... he was taken with the #44 pick that we sold off... so, we essentially took cash instead of Bol (!!!).

Having said that, I'm persuaded now that Schlenk was probably among the GMs who felt Bol had too much of a prima donna attitude, and just wasn't interested at this stage in bringing him into the club.

I know it is NOT my money but I really do hate it when the Hawks sell their Draft picks for cash!!!

I wish we didn’t have to give up so much to get to 4. I still love the trade up and the pick but giving up 17, 35, and the Cavs future pick (likely 2 high second rounders) is a lot to move up 4. And Solomon Hill...
Note: I left the 8th pick off the trade above as it cancels out with 4.

I know that the medical reports didn't come back good, but I wish the Hawks held onto one 2nd round pick and drafted Bol Bol.

I don't like drafting guys with medical problems in the first round, but 2nd round is fine with me.

If we had gotten another true center. We are kinda thin at the center position unless we sign another free agent center.

I mean we got Len and I would expect Collins to see minutes at the position with our potential small ball lineup.

I hope not cause Collins isn't good at Center!

A few minutes at Center in our fastest lineup while our actual Centers rest won’t be the end of the world

The ONLY way this draft could have turned out better is if... we drafted Sekou and he becomes the next Giannis.
We don't know, won't know soon, but hope it will not be the case (for Schlenk, not for Sekou ;-) )

*yawn*

Congrats to the young man for having one good stat game.

ETA: Honestly, if you really look at it, his stats weren't all that impressive either. Not sure what the big whoop is about.

Washington has no size either. We’ll see what Giannis and Ben think about Bol Bol.
