I trust Jerry so I love the pick. 6'10" with a 7'3" wingspan!! That was the Philly first we gave up so don't worry cause the Miami 1st we have is supposed to be the lotto pick

I'm really liking this move. Skilled player, great attitude. I'm sure the front office has other moves in mind to open up more cap space if need be.

The 27th pick has a cap hit of $1,974,480, which is about $44K more than the cap hits for each of Zubac and McGruder.

I didn't either, but when I read a scouting report on him prior to the draft, I actually thought to myself that he'd be a good fit for the Clippers. However, I totally forgot about him when the Clippers traded for the 27th overall pick tonight to draft him.

Hmm, i'm getting Dewayne Dedmon vibes out of his game.
Can do a bit of everything, but nothing showing elite (yet). Bigs who are able to shoot and not be useless in other facets of the game is starting to become a bigger part of the modern game.
Reminds of the Lakers draft picks Thomas Bryant and Moritz Wagner. Stretch bigs who hopefully have enough tools to do other things.
Wagner has looked like pure garbage last year and was always injured.
Bryant, who was given up on too early, did alot of good things when he played heavy mins in Washington.
Zubac and Harrell arent outside shooters by any means. Kabengele might be the one to add that extra dimension at the C spot.

Strange Pick... A Sixth Man?
1. Mfiondu Kabengele never started for Florida State. He's another bench player who produces at a starters level. Clippers have been going after bench players a lot lately, particularly those that embody the philosophies of the Grit-N-Grind Grizzlies or the Good Samaritan Spurs.
2. Kabengele's uncle is Hall Of Famer Dikembe Mutombo.

Clippers trade up in NBA draft to land Mfiondu Kabengele in first round
While redshirting his first season in Tallahassee, long before he popped on the Clippers’ radar, he began soliciting advice from his Hall of Fame uncle about nutrition and how to handle on- and off-court challenges. As the fourth overall selection in the 1991 draft, Mutombo spoke from experience.
Kabengele was one of four Canadians to be drafted in Thursday’s first round, the most the country has produced in a single draft, and he will join a compatriot in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the Clippers. Kabengele called the pairing with the all-rookie point guard a “bonus.”
“You know, when you’re from Canada, God hasn’t blessed me a lot with great weather,” Kabengele said. “So I went to Tallahassee. That was a great time. And now I’m off to Los Angeles and join Doc Rivers and his crew and see how they compete on a daily basis.”
He and Mann are expected to play on the team’s Summer League team in Las Vegas next month — along with second-year guard Jerome Robinson and Summer League signings including former Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes — where they will have the opportunity to display the defense and toughness that helped get them drafted.
“We can contribute to the culture that you guys already have,” Kabengele said. “I just know that when it comes to developing talent, the coaching, I just know it’s the right spot.”
Even if it was one he never saw coming.
Andrew Greif & Dan Woike, LA Times
Clippers draft pair from Florida State, take Mfiondu Kabengele 27th, Terance Mann 48thWhat advice had he received from his famous uncle?
“He was everything for me during this whole process,” Kabengele said. “(He told me) what to expect – workouts, coaching and just the business.”“Fi, as their sixth man, was their leading scorer and has an unbelievable knack for scoring inside and out,” Frank said. “He can play the forward position, he can also play some at center, he’s trending toward the new center in his ability to not just roll and finish, but to shoot the college 3. He’s got some good weak-side shot-blocking awareness.”“If you guys have watched Florida State play, they’re a very hard-playing, competitive team,” Frank said. “And I’m a pretty simple guy: You get some hard-playing, tough dudes and you become a hard-playing tough team.”

Not a guy I liked a lot before tonight, mostly offensive minded big that stroke me as a tournament wonder at first, but if they really traded the Philly pick to target him specifically I'm gonna trust them that he can become a 3&D big or something like that.

We're thin at the 4/5, so at least it fills a position of need. Seems like a high motor guy, hopefully we can get some contribution from him.... I still remember that Diamond Stone guy... hopefully he doesn't turn out like him....

Wonder why this guy wears knee pads on both knees.
It's the offseason. I'm allowed to over think things.
