Is the Magruber love some sort of schtick?

If you don’t enjoy MacGruber I consider that a personality flaw. It’s one of the funniest films I’ve ever seen.

I watched it yesterday for the first time. All I knew about the film was when it came out it starred people I'd never heard of and it looked stupid as hell. But I saw it and liked it. I'll recommend it to my brother.

Yea I think if they foresaw Stranger Things' popularity and knew it'd run at a minimum of three seasons, S1 may have been different. But also agree with Turk that I don't think S2 diverted in any significant way.

And if you liked S1 but disliked S2, this season appears to be be much like the former.

Didn't they keep the girl in a cabin for essentially the whole season two?

Yea, that's why the second season was bad.

I liked Eleven and Hopper's dynamic there. Different strokes I suppose.

For some reason I was looking to find 1992's "Gladiator" streaming somewhere and found out it was on Crackle, Sony's ad supported TV/Movie service. Turns out there's a good amount of great movies on there and I started watching Desperado for the first time since maybe college, though I've probably seen it seven or eight times already.

I think the last few years of action movies have made me super appreciate Desperado in a way I didn't before. Holy crap there's maybe a dozen scenes in here that are better than anything in a John Wick film.

The "Lost Effect".

Show creators have a story in mind when it starts. But then the show becomes successful and makes money, and now the studio pressures them to stretch it out. Writers then shoehorn in subplots and characters that don't contribute to the overall story or are just dumb.

I agree with everything here, but still think they followed up a masterful “Stranger Thing Season 1” with a fun B+ in season 2.

No doubt. The cast and nostalgia factor makes it watchable and entertaining enough. Just one of those things that likely gets worse as it goes on.

Agreed. Not everything is The Wire.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Got part way through episode 1 of Mindhunter but couldn't get into it
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I liked it. But it is a slow burn.

Slow burn, indeed. I think it's also one of those things where if you are into true crime (I am) it's much easier to invest the time needed to 'get into it'. I watched it in entirety. BUT, it also didn't stick with me like, say, 'When They See Us' will.

I have found my people at last. MacGruber might be my favorite comedy of all time.

Sounds like a couple things they originally wanted to do in S2 got pushed back out of necessity (Billy's contact w/ the supernatural being one). I bet they had to do a minor reset that extended and reshaped the story after it became so big.

But I think this season will be really good if they're getting to major parts they always wanted to hit. The trailers have been excellent.
