Bassman wrote:Agree with some relative to the draft results. This draft by the Hornets has a theme song, but not sure of the title yet. Maybe “The Pretender” by Jackson Browne. With three picks we “started out so young and strong, only to surrender”. Surrender to what? Safety...dependability...the daily punch the clock picks you get from a team trying to dig out of a hole. These picks embraced workman-like skills from less than ideal employees for their roles. We even hired a potential felon :o . Made no trades which, thankfully, included not selling our 2nd rounders.

What would have been bold would be a trade back (as suggested for 14 & 22). Drafting Sekou would have been bold. A tad risky but upside potential higher perhaps than PJ. I like Washington as a fit here, but a safe bet by Mitch for sure. The others are athletes who have skills, always a good combination for being contributors over time. Expecting more from 2nd rounders is not smart, but who knows how any picks will play out.

Maybe Mitch will have more success making trades to shed some junk (Batum, etc.). If so we plug these guys into development and see what happens. As for the draft...just another day at the office for the Hornets.

Nailed it. Addicted to safe, which is addicted to mediocre. Gimme Sekou, Bol, and McDaniels (why not) and at least I'd know we're shooting for the stars rather than the 8th seed. We don't need any more serviceable. Don't have high hopes in terms of FA.

The criticism of the PJ pick would have been exactly the same had we passed on Monk to take Mitchell two years ago. You guys are being way too premature with your attestations that he has a low ceiling. Five star McDonald's All-Americans that were the best player for Kentucky aren't low ceiling guys.

Weren't we kinda all saying this was a bad draft a month ago. My threshold for what I'll definitely a success is really low. If we get a rotation worthy player out of this draft I'll be happy.

Are you serious right now?

Is this you:

All off-season you've been talking about how great McDaniels is, ranking him above Zion and as the first or second best PF in the class. Now that we've drafted him, you're saying he's not much better than a guy you think should've gone undrafted and he's not a PF at all?

If you're going to hammer us with your draft opinions over and over, seems like you should at least stick with them.

I STARTED my draft journey HIGH on Jalen Mcdaniels.
The ONLY thing that made me different from anyone else here is that I posted MORE players than others did.
If you were to go back and read what others wrote you will see that MANY different players were added to their
I AM COOL WITH US TAKING this player and NOT COOL WITH US TAKING THAT PLAYER.

Or I am starting not to like Kevin Porter JR etc... Or I think we should go Bol Bol etc...

The only thing I should be judged on is what I CHOSE not the process getting to that selection.
'
If thats the case you might as well fire a GM for THINKING about taking a player but not actually TAKING that player.

Thats means you would be firing him for WORKING HARD and actually trying to do his job.

Its not like Mcdaniels has proven to be a BUST.

He could turn out to be solid so it was not proven that we made a "bad" choice in him.

The same way you posted how I thought Mcdaniels is better than Zion is the same way you should have posted the
players I wanted to draft drum roll please..... RIGHT BEFORE THE DRAFT. Those players consisted of

#12 - NAW
#36 - OBEISIE
#52 - COOK

Heck I haven't mentioned Mcdaniels for a TOP pick in a while. I have been stuck on

#12 - NAW, SAMANIC AND CULVER for the longest at 12. Just recently I added RUI but once again the only thing that makes it
SEEM as tho I was more on a player is from being more passionate and posting MORE rather than being the ONLY one.

The majority made list consisting of

IM COOL WITH
GOGA
RUI
SAMANIC

NOT COOL WITH
ROBY
NAW
ETC....

If one of my PICKS went down then I have no way of defending that. Not one of the people who I thought we should CONSIDER as a pick.

There were some who actually wanted PJ at 12 so I will go on a limb and predict Mcdaniels will at least be better than him
which is darn good and still as supportive of someone I just CONSIDERED early in the process over a lottery chosen talent

It was interesting listening to Calipari speak about his improvement from his freshman to sophomore seasons and how much he improved.

Sam Mitchell said the same thing. Said he watched him from 11th grade to 12th grade and his growth and improvement was super impressive.

I do understand the negativity with the draft picks and I do not know really anything about any of them other than what I read on their draft profile. I do think Mitch does see something with the Cody Martin pick and he is actually the better of the twins. He pretty much played point guard in college and was very effective and defended well. I think Mitch may see him playing with Kemba as the point guard if he develops. I know he is already 23 but other players have come into the league at that age and been successful. He may surprise everyone.

He seems like someone who understands hard work got him to where he is and has made good jumps at different levels, if he understands the hard work has just begun he will be fine.

It's a lot easier to work harder when you're being paid really well for it, especially when that work comes with the promise of even higher rewards. If a guy already has a good base of skills and has shown that they can work that should continue when they're actual professionals. That is unless you're unlucky enough to be drafted by an unprofessional organization like the Suns or Knicks.

I actually feel for a lot it's harder, getting drafted is the culmination of their efforts and now they have more money than they need. Not enough people tell these guys you're playing for a 2nd contract that's the real money. Hopefully he has a desire to win.

Playing in the tournament on an injured foot (and risking further injury) when he was already looking at a first round selection says a lot to me

I apologize to kupchack because we took the BETTER of the twins as splitta stated. I actually ranked him high at one point. I kinda gave up on them by them being TWINS and not really standing out so it made me MEH about them and I just didn't pay much attention to them but Cody is actually a decent value pick. I think our only mistake was at #12.

Overall I rank our draft is a B. I think all players have "some" potential that we drafted. None will be stars but could contribute.

Hey guys cheer up. I re-evaluated our picks and imo they are not that bad. PJ will be a work-horse inside and can develop a 15 footer, Cody can give us 3 positions and McDaniels if he were to add weight and add a solid midrange (he has a decent jumper already) can be a nice bench player. We didn't do too bad.

Last post about my "liking" Mcdaniels but I don't mind ride or die with him (even though he was not my pick) at 52, but if I am gonna be remembered for it, also remember me for picking #12 - NAW and #36 - Obeiesie (not that it means much) but I consider myself to be fair and it would be fair.

#12 - NAW
#36 - OBEISIE
#52 - MCDANIELS

I can accept that. (even tho I would rather COOK). and BJ Taylor in summer league. Mcdaniels at #52 is not a bad pick in any draft imo. Go HORNETS

By no means am I saying I PICKED HIM because I didn't but I am a HUGE fan of Vanja Marinkovic. I said last year that he has STAR POTENTIAL. Vanja has that "it" factor. He imo can be the steal of this draft. I was SHOCKED when I saw his name announced because I looked everywhere to see if he had entered the draft and found nothing. I really like Jordan Poole and Deividas Sirvydis but you can quote me on this Vanja Marinkovic will be the STEAL of this draft.

Vanja Marinkovic remember the name.
