Magic trade #46 for Lakers' 2020 Second and Cash
The Magic traded their second-round pick #46 to The Lakers for The Lakers' 2020 second-round pick and cash.
I do believe it's The Lakers' own unconditional.

It might not be as good as #46 this year but it gives The Magic a future asset and I do not believe they had for a second-round pick on this team next season.

The year is 2020 and Orlando trades 53rd pick for cash and 58th pick in 2022 draft.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

They didnt love anyone at this pick so they retain value and trade it. Makes all the sense in the world, there are so many good undrafted guys why waste this pick on someone you dont like. Weltman has brain and balls i am so happy he is making the decisions.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I"m getting the idea that this front office has an extremely high threshold that prospects need to reach in order for WeHam to believe in them enough to want to spend a draft pick on them. They seem to be uninterested in the second round for the most part. I liked the Melvin Frazier jr. pick, though.

Not a big deal, this year we will have two Top 6 rookies (Fultz and Bamba) and an early 2nd (Frazier). It's good to known that we are thinking about the future as next year we will have #16 pick (Chuma), our own FRP/SRP and Lakers's 2nd.

Iggy Brazdeikas or Mann would have been nice, the next two picks after us. Almost had another linebacker, a 6-4 sf, at 240 lbs, lol.

I think Terance Mann is a perfect 2-way player. Really surprised the Magic did go for him.

I wanted him too.
BUT, I'll wait to bitch to see how we use our cap space this FA year.
It would have been a small hit, but that 2nd rounder would have some effect.

Well what was his wingspan
And I'm sure the magic would if drafted him, but you know, the draft flattened out

God forbid drafting PG and stashing him in G league. That would require less ego and some planning, and not fapping on wingspan ...

This is going to look really stupid if Horton Tucker becomes anything or a really solid player comes after 46. Hard to believe they couldn’t find someone to replace Briscoe or Caupain.

They were too lazy to look. Easier to perpetually kick the can down the road.

Kyle Guy who was a great shooter for Virginia. Same height as Seth Curry, we could use shooting, not worth a camp invite from a 2nd?

Re: Magic trade #46 for Lakers' 2020 Second and Cash
ill never understand this FOs refusal to bring in 2nd rounders
I mean what is that, the 3rd or 4th sold 2nd rounder in 3 years? Why not try bringing some of those guys and seeing if you can find something instead of just putting money in the owners pocket. I mean selling the pick literally does nothing for the team itself and just saves the owner money.
You mean to tell me you cant find one guy with potential in the 2nd round? you couldnt take a shot on a Ignas Brazdeikis or Jalen McDaniels? you really dont think Jaylen hands can beat out briscoe and isnt worth developing?? You couldnt take a shot on a freak athlete like Jalen Lecque to develop into a good PG??
No, youd literally rather SELL the pick than actually scout players and when it comes to development...forget about it, this team just isnt interested, which is a great strategy for a team in the mist of a 7 year rebuild and have 0 stars to show for it.
Funny how a team like ATL can fix their team in 2 drafts, yet our FO cant find more than 1 player a year they deem worthy

Howard, can you tell me why cash considerations were important for the Magic?
I'm not totally mad about giving up the pick because out of the players left who were drafted the only one I liked was Jaylen Hands, but I want to know why so many teams like getting cash considerations for these 2nd round picks. Is it just to pad the owner's pockets or what?

its really just cash straight up cash to use however you want.
Each team is allotted a certain amount of cash per year to use in trades. Back in 2018 the Warriors used that cash to buy an early 2nd which turned into Jordan Bell.
This year the Cavs used 5M & 4 4 2nd round picks to move up to get Kevin Porter JR that 5M was probably all of the cash considerations available.
somewhat long winded article The ringer had on the situation.

I guess it's cash they could use in future trades. Maybe it just extra incentive as these owners are billionaires.
The key is getting the second as it gives The Magic a trade chip as whoever was drafted had little chance of making the 15 man roster.

Should have just pointed to this.

Getting the second is what I liked even though it probably will not be as good as #46 next year.

So you prefer a worse pick, next year vs a better pick, this year?? What's the strategy there?
I'm truly intrigued by your proposition, but I'll need you to walk me through your logic first.
