No, please, do not bring up how other contenders have their roster filled out. It's much more fun to bitch that we won't be carry 6 first and second year players.

The Raptors bench is legit full of guys they drafted the years prior.

Raptors have: OG as a 1st rounder, Powell as a 2nd rounder, and FVV as an undrafted guy.

Sixers will have: Zhaire Smith (1st), Matisse Thybulle (1st), Bolden (2nd), and Shake Milton (2nd).

Like I get selling picks sucks. I'd rather take some swings on guys too, but to act like we are not utilizing cheap, cost-controlled, young players to fill out our roster is silly.

Man, it stinks when the guys I lined up wanting us to take at each spot we’re actually all against those spots!! Definitely a little sad today.

That said, I’m not much of a draft head, so it may be good that we didn’t take any of them

The only thing I can say in our defence is maybe our scouting was down overall on the players available to us, but overall as a philosophy it is absurd to toss them when we have a head coach who cut his teeth as a developmental mentor.

FYI Thybulle will not be a good man defender IMO, at least this season - for all his athleticism he really isn't that strong. I hope to be proven wrong but I can well see a scenario where a Grant Williams is more of a positive on that end because of his strength while being also a much better offensive player.

Along with the strength factor, I feel like many of the elite defenders that come out of college have a strong showing on the boards. Thybulle was honestly a terrible rebounder. So bad to the point where I question his motor. Sure, steals and blocks come off as a high motor, however he did this in a zone which is a lot more forgiving and allows a ton more gambling.

I never would have believed Nassir Little and Mfiondu Kabengele would be available for the 76ers and we'd pass on both. But on the bright side, for me at least, Boston passed on them too and took Grant Williams.

I was listening to Spike and Mike today and Mike summed up my feelings perfectly. I would feel totally happy today if we had just kept ONE of those first 3 second round picks (tho not if we took Bruno). I have no issue with who we took, just disappointed that we had 3 really valuable 2nd round picks and we didn't use a single one of them.

I hope people realize bitching about bitching is still bitching.

That's probably my biggest message board pet peeve. After a draft when people don't like the picks "OH YOU KNOW BETTER THAN PROFESSIONAL GMS, HUH???"

So I guess fans aren't allowed to have opinions? I mean, that's basically what people are saying. Because we aren't professional GMs we should just follow everything a team does like mindless obedient sheep, because of course they're pros, they could never screw up or anything. It's not like people didn't see the Pasecniks pick being awful coming or anything...

IMO it's just a way for fans in denial to try to live in a bubble or an echo chamber. They feel if they surround themselves with nothing but optimism that the negative can't happen, because it's a tough pill to swallow that your team may have done something bad. But it happens and you can't bury your head in the sand. You need to deal with it. Actually, if you want to get down to it, that's a fan's duty. To hold their teams accountable when they do things wrong, because who else can? You can only force change with your wallets and voices.

So even if I disagree, I always applaud someone for making their voices heard either in audio or in print. Call radio stations and criticize, go to message boards and rant, and go to games and shout. Don't let your voices be silenced, I will always support a fan's right to voice their frustrations and will be against anyone trying to silence you or tell you to shut up and to just follow along obediently.

I think this draft was very crazy and I knew it would be for some reason. You can tell GMs had players valued on there board differently. The only thing alot of GMs had in common is they valued 3pt shooting (Cam Johnson) and other players moving up in the draft showed that. I wasn't shocked Nasir Little fell in the draft I don't think there's one thing he does exceptionally well. 5 years agi he would have been a lottery pick just off athletic ability. I think he can be a more explosive Thad Young. Nasir dosent have guard skills he has played PF all his life

I think many fans do. We need only go back to Collars choosing Fultz. People who watched Fultz play on our board
knew what we were getting. Those of us who listened to the analysts and commentators and looked at the mock
draft reports didn't really know.

And the history of the draft, looking back 20 years, there usually one star who comes out of the second round, players
like Marc Gasol. So it's kind of really dumb not to take your swing at the fence when you get one, two or three swings.

Sometimes I do. Sometimes a lot of people do.

Would you have done the trade Vlade Divacs made with Sam Hinkie? I don't think anyone of us would have. If not, in that moment we would have known better than a professional GM. It's sports, it's not a science. It's not like saying you know more about a field than a doctor.

I am not expecting Thybulle to come in and be a lock down, man to man glove.....I think he is going to be a pesky, ball hawk that will make plays with his activity level (deflections, blocks, steals) in a Robert Covington type of way.

Just to be clear - in my previous post I was not praising Grant Williams over Thybulle, my view on Williams as a dubious NBA prospect was documented through the college season, its just the possibility is there that Williams turns out a better defender than Thybulle despite the latter having better physical measurables than Williams.

I'm surprised with some of the takes about the draft. I understand not liking value for some of the trades, but this team cannot be taking on more rookies on their roster than what they have. You can't have more than 1/3 of your roster being rookies/sophmores when trying to compete for a championship. Not to mention, the players in question are 2nd round to undrafted level players.

There are definitely going to be gems from the late picks, but it's a crap shoot. For example, James Ennis might not be a great player, but he's probably better than 80% of players in the 2nd round which means if you had 5 2nd round rookies on the team, only 1 would potentially end up being better and 4 would be worse. That's nearly 1/3 of your team wasted on players that will not help now or in the future. You can only waste so many roster spots on these type of players and I think 4-5 should be the max on a championship contending team if they can help it.

Next year, if some players don't have what it takes (e.g. Bolden, Shake, etc.), get rid of them and replace them with a few new draft picks.

But without Rob's dependable 12-14 points. Tybulle will be putting up insignificant scoring production like McConnell.

I'm open to forgive Elton if he's going to sign Loius King to a 2-way contract :D

Elton Brand on Twitter after the draft, ‘It’ll all make sense soon.’ And then today ‘The players we got via trades last year are “very interested” in this team. He notes that this applies not just to the bigger guys, but the smaller trade pieces as well’

I’m well and truly in the who gives a #$*@ about second round crap shoots who suck up resources and rarely contribute. Brand basically knows who the team is plus a rook and a couple vets. That was obvious from the moment he traded 33 and moved 34.
Continuity is what this team and Brown needs and what Brand will get them.
Bring on the 30th June.

I hope we aren’t making draft decisions based on appeasing our own players. That’s how the Heat end up with Shabazz Napier in the first round.

I don't believe in picking College role players in the 1st round and his production is troubling to me, but if he can just keep a defender honest he could serve a purpose. TJ McConnell's problem is he can't defend man-man in the half court, AND the opposing team ignors him on offense and he still can't score. Even at 9ppg, Thybulle could be a success IF he is a guy that the other team attempts to guard.
