Re: Renewed Idea: NBA Sister Cities
I wouldn't mind them trying something where 3-5 home games are played at different arenas.
IE NYK games could be played at the 4 major cities upstate and out on Long Island
Buffalo - Key Bank Center - 19,200 seats
Albany - Times Union Center - 17,500 seats
Rochester - Blue Cross Arena - 13,000 seats
Syracuse - Oncenter Arena - 7,000 seats
Long Island - Nassau Coliseum - 14,500 seats

In theory it increases revenue too, though. A team supported by two cities (regions) instead of one. And the European teams might garner even more support in Europe given say only 4 teams for the continent and still relative scarcity of the product.
From what source? Gate receipts are stable. It would have to be a local TV deal and merchandise - but that’s only cannibalizing other revenue if you’re not bringing in now fans. I’m not sure you get the same level of engaged fan when you share either. Who gets the team name?

Re: Renewed Idea: NBA Sister Cities
I think it could work for spreading the NBA to other countries. A group of teams in a division could play all their games against eachother in another country. An award could be granted to the winner of that division. Then the division comes back to North America to play out the rest of the season. These could be brand new divisions and don't have to be geographically co-located once they come back to North America.

Relegation? Don't see the owners ever agreeing to that in particular. That said, I could see something like a promotion/demotion model working in the North American markets.

Why not just shoot Seattle then? You realize that relationship ended on a rather salty note, right?

Re: Renewed Idea: NBA Sister Cities
Depending on expansion i think its a good idea for a G-League to go into secondary markets or large markets where the NBA isn't likely to expand.
i.e. why not have the clippers G-league team in San Diego, or the lakers g-league team in vegas, Golden state g-league team in Oakland (since they're across the bay now) and the Sac town g-league team in Reno or Fresno.
I think their are some pretty interesting g-league affiliate locations you can get which basically could play a role in being a sister city.
Of course, an international sister city would also make sense, certainly not sharing a team but certainly having a team play pre-season games (i.e. a pre-season cup competition i think works, an elimination style matchup between 30-32 teams, so all the nba teams) seeded from top to bottom and each team has a home base. With 30 teams maybe the champs and runners up get a bye to begin. Its a good pre-season warmup and one year, it could be in Europe, next in China, next in Western Africa, next in South America etc. So for example, maybe Milwaukees sister city is Munich for a particular year, where they play all their home games for the cup in Munich, maybe the Knicks are based in Rome, it really would depend on deals etc.
You see it in football with the new international friendlies and nba teams do play friendlies, maybe even if you want, expand the field to 64 teams and have it feature teams from around europe and the world (that may be hard cause of different seasons unlike football where a large majority of european leagues at least have similar seasons, thus the biggest teams play at the same time, unlike pro basketball where seasons are all over the place).
I think this would be a good way to get the game growing in smaller communities and cities (and turning the g-league into a much more professional and watched product and a proper league in its own right, hell, i'd rename it from the g-league to the American Baskebtall Association and have that basically be below the NBA).
I honestly could do a full breakdown of this if anyone wants to see cause this gave me an idea of how i'd do it with regards to the g-league affiliates as well as how a cup competition could work.

Re: Renewed Idea: NBA Sister Cities
In tennis, the Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) alternate events between Montreal and Toronto, for example:
in 2017 the Men's event was held in Montreal and the Women's event was held in Toronto. The next year 2018, the Men's event was held in Toronto and the Women's event was held in Montreal and so on...

Re: Renewed Idea: NBA Sister Cities
Which city gets the playoff games?
My opinion may not be your opinion or their opinion but I have it.
