D'angelo as a target?
Was listening to the radio, and I hear the sports guys talking about how AD has joined D'angelo's instagram, or whatever. Could be nothing....but it's got folks ears up.
I think the guy is a bit of a nunce myself. Not a huge fan of his game either. But these be slim times. Magic is gone, Young is gone. Guys like Lebron will grab his phone and crush it in front of his skinny-jean wearin' arse if he tries to record anyone.
I know there is the 'D'angelo army' of fans still out there. Of course your buyin in. What about the rest of y'all? If we could get him for a 3-4 year deal at $20-ish mil (per year of course)....do you think we should?
I'm on the fence myself. Crap defender....let's just start there.
Next he's a 36% 3-point shooter (not bad at all).
78% Freethrow shooting would make him a Laker anomaly.....I expect that to drop. At 2 attempts per game, not sure it matters.
Can create.....good passer. Good skill player. Has 'ice in his veins' apparently.
Little bit of a dope off the floor....but I'd expect this new crew of vets to fix that (thinking soap in the pillow-case scene from FMJ)
So I dunno. Lebron will do alot of the PG duties. I seem to remember D'Lo not wanting to become the 2 (spot up shooter) to Lonzo, but how much of that was 'pride' vs not what he wanted to do, I couldn't tell you. If he was willing to play PG when Lebron sits, and otherwise be sort of a half/PG half/shooter....I think he'd help spread the floor...would be yet another weapon, with ability to put the ball on the floor, and make something happen.
But that D. And that attitude. <------I'm on the fence. If Kyrie / Kawhi / Jimmy and the rest go...whats left? Could use a PG big time. He's got talent, no doubt. Thoughts?

Re: D'angelo as a target?
This would be a disaster of a signing.
DLo had a higher usage than Westbrook and was similarly responsible for assisting 2 in every 5 buckets his teammates got. Those stats tell you that he was in major control of the offense, that type of role inflates his stats but would be disastrous when on a team with LeBron and AD.
Even with inflated stats because of his role, his stats aren't that great.

He needs to be in a pressure-less situation still. Phoenix or Minnesota will be perfect for him.

D'angelo as a target?
I was against this and thought it was bs. But I think this thread is worthy because it appears this could be legit. He had to be a scorer for the nets last year. However I have to be honest I think he can be a playmaker judging from his time here. He might be a great catch and shoot shooter for Lebron. Also having Russell and Davis as the future isn’t a bad thing. I’m for it.

There is debatable material on this subject. Both sides, pros and cons. But im of the belief, that i just dont think pelinka will want to do it. It wasnt all magic that wanted him a goner, i believe pelinka was a willing participant. And pelink wouldnt be willing to bring him back

Re: D'angelo as a target?
We keep talking about defense.... In his tenure at NJ he was often subbed out offense for defense late in games. He's not improved that end much at all while have a TON of room to do so. Also keep in mind he's had issues with his knees. Last year was an outlier in that he was fairly healthy but it was also a contract year.
If it were for 1 year at $15M or less I guess if we've struck out on all other fronts. A long term deal would not be in our best interests.

From what I've read, Pelinka won't ever do business with Mintz again. So, if he's leading the Lakers then we can just rule out any of his clients. Period.

Yeah im not sure why we are talking about this. We have a better chance of getting Butler to sign for the minimum than for Dlo to ever come back here.

Re: D'angelo as a target?
I like Dlo but not for a team with AD and LBJ. These guys are getting together to ball hard and win a ring.
They’re going to want high IQ people around them who won’t take crappy shots and will hustle on D.
That’s why Zo would have been perfect if we could have kept him.
I’m not feeling Dlo coming back at all.

I think if this were completely true they wouldn’t have drafted Lonzo Ball.

I saw the Minny report and their road to enough cap space requires dumping a lot of money, don’t see it happening.
I’d be shocked if he isn’t signing an offer sheet with Phoenix on July 6th. Whether the Nets match not sure, but I fully expect Phoenix to offer him his max deal.

Why? He just recently switched agents. Hell, switching to Mintz probably got him shipped out faster.

I don't think Phoenix has enough to offer him his max anymore after the Aaron Baynes trade.

The Lakers are clearing space for a max FA with 7-9 years of experience. Why would they do that if they were planning on signing Russell?

Dlo vs Kyrie vs Butler vs Kemba. Take Dlo, and its a sure sign Jimmy is back in Charge.

Re: D'angelo as a target?
I was bitter when we traded DLo and have been happy to see his success in Brooklyn. But I'll pass. He's not worth his asking price for this particular roster.
