When Paskal Siakam was drafted nobody talked about him. Now everybody wants the next Siakam and Sekou does seem similar. Has that kind of mentality ever worked out before? It seems that guys who are “the next” anybody end up like Bruno Caboclo. Chicago is one of few teams that can take a chance on a guy who is likely a 2 year G leaguer before he is ready to contribute.

It's not the pick I'd make, I'm just predicting it.

And you're right, the next Pascal or Draymond never looks like Pascal or Draymond, it's almost always someone different, and then everyone looks for the next Ty Jerome..

plenty of people talked about Siakam, and Giannis, and Draymond. It's just that the supposed draft experts didn't and people that barely watch college basketball or know much about NBA prospects, only pay attention to these talking heads. And these guys, like Bilas, Givony, KOC, Schmitz, Vecenie, etc are terrible at their jobs. So you end up with a groupthink circle jerk of ineptitude surrounding the draft. There are people talking about Roby, McDaniels, Bazley, Claxton and Sekou for this draft. There were people talking about Simons, Kurucs, and Mitchell Robinson last draft. And when people wonder why "nobody talked about them" you'll know it's not true. It's just that none of these guys that get paid to talk about them know what they're doing because they're so busy fawning over prospects they happened to watch in the NCAA tournament. They all seem to lack the ability to project players forward. Like, they think non shooters stay that way, that great college shooters playing against mid Major scrubs will remain great shooters against NBA length, that skinny kids won't put on muscle, that 6'8" shot blockers in college will be shot blockers in the NBA and on and on. It's madness

That's true, too - the TV and web media coverage of the draft - and sports generally - isn't good. Givony was bought out, most of the conversation is superficial, and the commentary is full of former players and attractive women. But the Woj/Shams draft shows were boring as hell, a bunch of dry nerds bringing up stats.. Nobody wants to have PBS Newshour cover the draft, reciting analytics..

All the good information is mostly paywalled or pro-walled - Synergy doesn't have a cheap option for fans anymore.. and reading some of the scouting at The Stepien where it's breaking down wrist angles and imbalanced spin moves, there's a behind the scenes layer of sophistication that's a cut above what fans have..

Draymond Green had a lot of fans, I remember, supposedly he was high on the board of most of the teams who passed on him, but just not quite high enough.

It's also fair to notice there's a basketball nerd contingent who can overthink things, or focus on undervalued players who turn out to have been correctly valued. Like, some of the names like Grant Williams, Okeke, Schofield, Edwards, Jerome, Horton-Tucker.. do we think all six of them are going to be NBA starters? Probably not - but all it takes is one - and we can crow about how ESPN sucks, but not notice that the rest washed out. The whole draft process is about educated guesses.

TJ Warren to Pacers. Nice pickup. Seems like a Indy player. Solid, not flashy and a guy who can get a bucket for a team who lacks scoring

Aaron Holiday is apparently the new Terry Rozier.. Indiana mgmt thinks he can be an all star, they wouldn’t include him for Conley or Aaron Gordon

And for those who actually want this guy on our team - CP3 was despised by Blake and DJ. Add Harden to the list. How do you think that man with the Napoleon complex is going to treat Tatum and Brown? Hint: he won't be nice to them.

I believe CP3 is owed 124 million over the next 3 years. If Vegas made it even money on him starting
><124 games in that same time which side would you bet?
I would lean towards the under.

That's when I start splitting hairs about the Sperling-Brown franchise swap and argue the LA Clippers are the REAL Boston Celtics so as to not appear disloyal.

MGRADs on Twitter calling KD/Kyrie to Brooklyn, DLo to the Lakers. I don't like him because he hates Boston, but he does have sources I'm afraid.

Would be a crazy move for Brooklyn if they pull it off. Who would have thought they would leapfrog us a few years ago.

Kevin Durant will be 32 and coming off a full missed year of basketball when he makes his Nets debut. Could easily be a level below what he was this year. Kyrie will go through one full season with the same crew that D.Russ took to the 6th seed this year. Will be hilarious if he misses the playoffs with the same team..

I have my doubts. We'll see..

That Lakers would be super top heavy and very beatable. If they sign Dlo they aren't signing Morris, unless if DLO gets 28 mils, Morris is okay with making 7 a year. Morris would help the Lakers a lot, btw. Morris, Beverly, Reddick would do them much better than Kyrie or DLO. Also, defense will be a mighty struggle for that team as LBJ and DLO both are trash there. No idea how the Lakers fill out their roster as most of the semi decent role players will get more than the min(a lot more)... If the LBJ is smart(he's the GM of the Lakers via his " agent" Rich Paul) he will sign 3 if possible 4 good role players. Third star just wont work as both AD and James will need a lots of rest, imo...
Good assessment:

I feel like they have their KG, Pierce and Rondo in AD, Lebron and Kuzma. They need shooters like Ray and Eddie, and dirt dogs like Posey and Perk. Aaron Baynes would be perfect to protect AD from more physical centers. Brook Lopez if they could get him cheap is a better 3 point threat. Kyrie would obviously be best cast scenario as he would be Eddie/Ray/Rondo (minus the D) rolled into one.

Kuzma is so far away from Rondo that's it not even funny. Rondo had his flaws, but Kuzma can't defend a chair or shoo the 3. If Kuzma starts with LBJ's effort on D, they will be in the bottom 3rd in defensive ratings.
