Re: Grant Williams thread
Thinking more about this, I see some Eric Williams in Grant's game. Less explosive but a higher BBIQ. If we find that kind of 25MPG, physical, two way contributor at the back half of the first, it is a steal.

Re: Grant Williams thread
I tend to like high energy bigs, but if he can actually be a guy who can hold his own playing positions 3-5 in certain matchups, it's a nice pick. If he can continue to get in better shape and the ups the tempo of the beats he dances to, his ceiling could be higher imo. I'm still nervously watching how consistently hard Robert Williams is going to play.

If this means we can say goodbye to Morris, I am all for this pick.

Actually pretty careless comment by me, premature. He did reshape his body totally and looks in great shape. Reading more, he refers to having heavy feet, which is essentially the limiting factor in his ceiling.

Man, watching highlights, aside all qualities, he is really, really small, good thing that nowdays stretch pf he will guard are not that high and strong.

yeah, good thing he won't have to go up against Simmons, Isaac/Gordon, Siakam, Sabonis/Leaf, Giannis, Bagley, JJJ, Markkanen, Adebayo, Griffin, Collins, Green, Randle, Love and Aldridge...oh wait. Pretty much every team has a 6'9" or above PF with great length that will absolutely dominate Williams and keep him on the bench, never mind.

While I would prefer a taller more athletic player to help defend the players like Giannis/Lebron driving to the basket, I actually think he will be able to guard many of the players you listed better than Marcus Morris.
I just looked it up to confirm but Morris has a smaller wingspan. Seems like Williams has a shot within a year or two to be an upgrade to Morris.

You cant measure heart as cliche as it may sound. I believe he will be good.
Good assessment:

Re: Grant Williams thread
Williams ranked in the 96th percentile for strength when tested by Synergy for all guys in their database. Including players tested in the NBA. He will have the strength to play with PFs, the bigger question I have is does he have the foot speed to stay with SFs and the length to contest PFs in the post. He needs to do one of those credibly or he could wind up a tweener.
Even then, I think he still finds a role as just a quality bench guy. If a guy like Georges Niang can earn minutes for a playoff team, Williams can too.

Comparing his combine results with Draymond Green's, Green has a couple more inches in terms of length and hops, but Williams has a bit more speed.
Just looked up Brandon Bass for old times sake, and he was just a half inch taller, with a couple more inches in standing reach but almost five more inches in wingspan. But Bass had a 5" advantage in standing vertical leap.

Re: Grant Williams thread
So many people have this guy rated really high but it’s hard to ignore his lack of height, hops and speed. I really hope he pans out. So many high character guys who lacked the combine measurables that were really great in college, really smart, high BBIQ and elite effort PFs fail in NBA. Some were lottery picks too - like TRob, Sheldon Williams etc. I really want this guy to finally be the “next Draymond Green” ... we really could use that kind of good fortune. We really need a great young glue guy who can compliment Tatum/Brown/Smart.
One measurable he does have that is underrated in NBA is a wide butt. All the lanky 6-9 200 lb PFs. mentioned above will have to deal with that in the post.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Late 1st and 2nd respectively, but also 3J and Harangody. Compared to Williams, Gody actually a 1/4" taller w/o shoes, another 1.5" standing reach, and 1/4" shorter in wingspan.

Grant Williams has one of the most well rounded games of any player coming out of college in the last 10 years. Yes, he is a bit undersized, but his strength, wingspan, and BBall IQ compensate for that. He will not be absolutely dominated. He can distribute the ball, rebound, defend, and score. As I posted before, The Stepien compares his scoring to Draymond Green's defense, in the sense that those respective skills were highly underrated for each player at the time they were drafted. And speaking of Draymond Green, you do know that he is 6'7", right? A three time all star and 2017 defensive player of the year. Oh yeah, he also plays the PF position. Not that a highlight video is going to change your mind, but why not?

If you haven't seen this video, you are in for a treat. Play #2 is Williams blocking a Carsen Edwards drive.

Draymond Green has a 7-1 1/2 wingspan, nearly 4 inches longer. The great plays Grant made in college.....will he be able to do it in NBA. That will determine if whether he is just the next Semi OJ type guy or if he can be special.

A great addition to our team, not just for his considerable basketball skills, but for his character, and citizenship. I love his outlook and attitude. A credit to his upbringing.

Re: Grant Williams thread
He can be a starter in this league and a really good player.
What stays out about him is he is a compete player. Rebounds, passes, score from inside and out, defends. Also from what NBATV analyst were saying about him is that he makes his teammates better and impacts winning.
