Re: 2019 NBA Draft
Honestly it doesn’t matter that they traded the 33rd pick to move up and grab Thybulle because it’s clear they wouldn’t know what to do with it if they kept it.
I’m disappointed in the focus on role players in the draft with no star upside.

I knew it was a wrap when we took Bridges at #10.

draft reports didn't really know.
Sounds pretentious considering we never got to see the Markelle Fultz from Washington play in our threads asides from a few summer league games
There are people on the forum who claim to have watched Fultz play and raised red flags. I'm not one of them.
As for incompetent front-office executives, are you seriously trying to defend Bryan Colangelo. Here's from his
wikipedia bio.
Colangelo grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where his father served as general manager (and eventually owner) of
the Phoenix Suns. After graduating from Central High School, Colangelo attended Cornell University, where he
played as a guard for the Cornell Big Red men's basketball team. After graduating from Cornell, he moved to
New York City, where he worked in real estate.[6]
So he played high school ball in Phoenix and then played guard at Cornell. Everything else he did seems to have
been through his daddy's connections.
My gripe with Brand - who co-rookie of the year and twice an NBA all-star - is that he squandered the 34 pick.
Time will tell whether trading up for Thybulle was a good move. But not cashing in on the 34 pick, even if he
picked a developmental player or someone he might wish to stash (we still don't have a guard who can break
down the defense), simply doesn't make sense.
If he re-signs Butler, Tobias, JJ, Ennis and Scott, all of them (we'll find out soon), then it makes sense. But
if that doesn't happen, then it doesn't make sense.
I don't think he squandered that 34th pick. I listened to Elton talk on WIP Friday afternoon. He said guys they really liked were starting to go so he made the move to get there guy. What else was he suppose to do???I rather get the player I really want. For a GM to get his guy without messing up the teams future is a win. Elton wasn't gonna draft a guy player at 34 anyway he's was gonna trade back

But Zhaire I can understand as an upside pick even though I wasn't a fan. Landry Shamet and Shake also had ball handling/distribution chops with Shake also generating turnovers. All three had a feeling of upside to possibly be stars.
They also brought in Terence Davis and Jarrell Brantley, twice, which gave the illusion of possibly still holding those values. Unfortunately that was not the case.

The whole draft was like that GMs valued shooting over players with major upside. That's why Cam Johnson gets drafted at 11 Dylan Windler and Kyle Guy move up in the draft. Guys like Bol Bol Nasir Little and Porter all slid in the draft. Windler went 1 pick after Nasir Little that tells u everyhing. 5 years ago Little is a for sure lottery pick, but too many young guys get drafted and don't get better so GMs have changed there philosophy

I'm talking about the 34th pick, not the 33rd. We have to give him the benefit of the doubt to go for Thybulle.
Until/unless he's a bust. I wrote "time will tell". As for the 34 pick, he doesn't get points if he gives us a crap
bench like we had last year. He's got to run the table on his five free-agent signings - everybody but Embiid
and Simmons. And we need a backup center. Not Amir. Not Boban. And since Brown won't play Bolden, not
Bolden.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft
I'm thinking NAW was the #1 guy we wanted with Thybulle behind him. Once NAW went (#17) they figured they had to move up to secure Matisse. Don't think we wanted Bitadze (#18) as they don't want to rely on a 20 year old as Embiid's primary backup in a year we're trying to win the chip. Same with Samanic (#19) who has talent but is probably a couple of years away from contributing as he is only 19 still.
They figured out that OKC was likely going to take Thybulle at #21 so they made the move to #20 to secure him. OKC traded down after we picked so I'm confident Thybulle was their guy. He'd be the ideal replacement for Roberson who they are trying to salary dump.

Your looking for Clarity on the 34th pick his goal was to trade it like he did. Leading up to the draft Elton said he didn't want to fill this roster up with young guys. They look at Milton Smith Thybulle and Bolden as there young that there gonna develop. You might not like that but it's fair. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he had a plan and he stuck to it.I agree with you this Free Agency is big for Elton listening to him on WIP he seems super confident that players want to come here. It almost seems like he's been to talk to players and there agents already

Re: 2019 NBA Draft
I don't think Thybulle necessarily says they necessarily don't care about finding stars. Maybe their evaluations didn't have other guys available as having star potential and they think Thybulle will be a good player for a long time.
Just because you see more star potential in other guys, doesn't mean they do.

Our front office was so clueless last year regarding Shai. I'd like to think they valued his cousin as a target, but I doubt it.

Deshan Taylor 6'2 Guard from Fresno State has been added to the roster. Did some homework on him from all accounts he's a tough hard nose player who can score and play defense. He avg 18.6 ppg 3.7rpg 4.7assist shot 45% and 43% from 3pt 2x all MWC defensive team.

So, aside from signing relatives of pending free agents and centers (can't have enough of them!) we did zero business in the UDFA market?
What a waste.

Honestly, I was less offended by picking Thybulle at #20, than I was at picking Bridges at #10.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft
It's fairly obvious that there are not roster spots open for young guys - why would an agent have his guy sign a summer league contract? They're going to have 4-5 guys (Shake?) 24 and younger on the roster excluding 2-ways
How many did Milwaukee and Toronto have last year? Houston? Golden State?
They are looking to win the East, the development part of the process is over. Summer try-outs have now been replaced by vet minimums. It's time to stop drooling over 20 year-olds and gaining appreciation for the cougars of the NBA...lol

Because we have an active G-league team in Delaware so it is essentially a dual audition.
There is a pathway to making a roster (Sixers and BlueCoats) IF they perform well. (We are also talking about outplaying Shake who is on a 2-way contract and guys like Marial Shayok/Jonah Bolden)
