Who plays the Guard spots?
I heard someone joke that the Pacers only have one guard, and he is injured. Other than Holiday, they hit the nail on the head. I love Goga, and I think he will be a great center for the future, but we have to find a starting backcourt, and a backup 2 guard until Oladipo is fully healthy. Any ideas? I've got my fingers crossed for the DeAngelo Russell FA signing, and to be honest this FA crop is loaded with point guards. FA/Holiday could be just fine. Now we need a shooting guard and a backup. If we are going for ball dominant finishers at 2 guard, who would you look for and at what price? Russell and Holiday can both shoot, which we need if we want a playmaking 2.

I dunno if it's possible, linked to, or in the plans, but I've always wondered over the possibility of acquiring SAC's De'Aaron Fox.
Very quick, talented, has some experience already, would probably appreciate being in a winning organization, still on his rookie contract, and would fit the timeline for our core group as it peaks.
Just don't know if he can be had or what the asking price would be, if ever. Maybe Pritch can work his magic on the Kings, you never know.

The price would be very very high.

Assumed as much.
Also interested in Seth Curry. Think he has room to grow with us

I expect the Pacers will be signing some guards soon after july 6th. Worst case I'm pretty sure they can get DC and Joseph back.

Seth Curry is high on my list too. Could be a good player for a good price. We need shooting point guards and slashing 2 guards.

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
Wesley Matthews is the obvious answer at the 2, filling in for Oladipo till he comes back. Another option could be Nando de Colo, who has stated he wants to come back to the NBA. One of the best players in the Euroleague for the last 5 years, and French international.
At the point guard spot, it seems that Ricky Rubio is the likely arrival. He will add some creativity and size on defense.

Y'all are sleeping on Edmund Sumner. I'm thinking he's a serious rotation piece this year.

Rubio plus a free agent that knows he's not starting anymore after Vic gets back
Looks likely at this point. Still would want Kemba though.

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
I think Holiday and Sumner are ready to be in the rotation but I'm not sure they are ready to be on the floor together. Maybe Doug plays some 2.
We could use another 1 as I see Sumner as a 2. Should be a shot creator but doesn't have to be ball dominant.

I think we’re all hoping that’s the case, but not willing to proceed as if that’s a 100% certainty. No matter what, we’re going to need to sign some guards. Holiday, Oladipo, and Sumner aren’t enough. So, even if we talk about a Wes Matthews, he’d only play 30-34 minutes a night. That leaves a solid rotation spot of 14-18 minutes a night, for someone like a Sumner.

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
Wes Matthews didn't light the world on fire or anything last year, but I still think he would work as a placeholder until Vic gets back and a solid bench piece once he does.

Agreed. He’s iffy. We’re the issues him aging and losing his game, or was part of it not having gone through camp and feeling comfortable with the playbook and team? Who knows.

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
we're assuming he's going to play for a fraction of his last contract. might he find that insulting and prefer to stay home and hope for a midseason bonanza?boomershadow wrote:Wes Matthews didn't light the world on fire or anything last year, but I still think he would work as a placeholder until Vic gets back and a solid bench piece once he does.

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
Does a Brown and Langford swap for Turner make sense? I’m a Celtics fan I like both guys but Celtics need a big and Pacers need guards
BTW I love Goga. I think he’s an NBA starting C from day 1

Re: Who plays the Guard spots?
I would love to sign guys like Derrick Rose and Isaiah Thomas (pending health evaluations) to supplement scoring until Vic is ready to go. Additionally Rose/Oladipo pairing in the playoffs could be pretty tough to deal with. For the two spot i would resign Wes Matthews, sign Danuel House, consider Lance, Comb the summer league, D League etc for off the radar three and D wings. I believe that there are likely cheap three and D wings that can be found/acquired to play spot minutes similarly to how the 76ers found Roco, and the rockets found Danuel House.
Rose/ IT
Oladipo/ Matthews
Warren /Bogdanovic???? /House
Thad???? / Warren?????
Turner/Sabonis

it used to be understood that it is a mistake to trade a big for a small. we really like Turner and Sabonis and I don't think we have any interest in trading either one of them particularly for guards.
