It would be so unKnicksy if RJ comes in and from the very start plays like a franchise changing player the way Doncic did.

I know KP kind of had similar out of the gate flashes of being that level of player but his body type always lingers in the background as a possible stumbling block to fulfilling that potential. Plus with the league being more wing and guard dominated in style of play a big man relies very heavily on others to put him in a position to succeed so as we can see from other top notch big men without the right perimeter payers around them their impact can be limited.

RJ has the size and skill set to be that type of franchise changing player but...can the Knicks have nice things? I don't know that they can.

EspnU has been playing a lot of duke reruns. RJs passing still stands out as the quality that can make him special.

Not really. Timmy would've won enough games for us last year to keep us out of that last spot so we'd be 5 at best.

KP really was not that impactful out of the gate though

He made a splash in his rookie season by trailing plays and having flashy putbacks on missed shots plus a few notable blocked shots, but he was wobbly as a post-up player and would lose his dribble frequently in the high post. Once he got his sea legs, he put together some good offensive games and by the end of the season was looking like a player with real promise. But the gas tank issues were there in the first year and he faded towards the end of the season

Well, that's why I said "flashes", which he did have flashes on both sides of the court of being a player that can impact the game. Obviously, it's a very rare rookie that can provide an impact on the game consistently and turn the fortunes of a franchise in their first year in the league.....but flashes of potential to become something like that, yes, he had them....still health permitting of course.

Alright, I'll buy that for a dollar

I'm surely hoping RJ is all that out of the gate, but at the very least I hope he's a better player than KP

KP was overrated by us and I'm not just saying that because he's no longer a Knick. I was saying it when he was still here. He has no gas tank. He's a very weak rebounder at his size. He's mostly a black hole on offense with almost no interest in passing the ball even though he's 7'3" and can literally see over everyone.

He's a very good help and weak side defender due to his length, but the big problem with KP on defense is he is easy to beat on the perimeter and that's a problem when he's matched against quicker forwards (which is pretty much everyone). Until KP mans the paint, he is going to be caught in limbo land on defense repeatedly. So, he is both great on defense on the highlight reel, but overall his liabilities on defense kind of made just above average.

His potential on offense could be great, but I think that will come down to his willingness to put in the work. If he does, he could be an easy 25 PPG guy at his size, but how efficient that will be is the question. And his stamina of course.

Hoping RJ is better and with fewer weakenesses. He probably doesn't have KP's motor issues which is already a big leg up.
