I don't see the big surprise. The owners line their pockets like this every single year.

Only reason they trade for future 2nds is because they max out cash considerations and need to sell them next year.

I don't know. Especially playing in an offense where Butler won't shoot 3's and only wants to isolate and Simmons won't shoot at all. He likely plays like the wallflower he played like with Wall and Beal, IMO.

RPM stats say otherwise. They show Bojan as a poor defender and worse than Tobias who is mediocre.

But that doesn't matter, he's still a much better value at ~ $20M/yr as opposed to Tobias at the MAX of $32M/yr.

RPM stats also list Klay Thompson as one of the worst defenders at his position and on his team

It depends if he walks or if we can signs Harris to a deal that’s slightly below max like 5-160 because porter has 1 year left and then a player option which if he continued to played like that next season he’d command a max also!
Plus he’s only 1 year younger!
I have a feeling KD goes to the knicks or warriors
Kyrie and butler to the Nets
And we sign Harris, Green and Horford

Meh. One guy was putting up unsustainable efficiency while the other was slumping.

There's nothing to back up the idea that Bojan is a better athlete than Harris, it's really a weird thing to try to attribute to Bojan. He has half as many dunks on the season as Harris, and is a worse rebounder, how exactly is he a better athlete?

Watch games lmao. Bojan is a year removed from doing a good job guarding Lebron for a 7 game playoff series. He's just more explosive than Tobias all around. And that doesn't make Tobias a negative athlete, they're both in the average range for forwards, but Bojan is just superior.

(and btw you're not getting Harris lol)

Porter did sustain it though.

2017 + 2018 on Wizards - 59% eFG
On Bulls - 58% eFG

Just had lower 2P% and higher 3P%

I mean, he's had three consecutive years of 40+%. 43% and 44% when the Wizards were playing playoff basketball.

Otto Porter is a better player and a better fit for us than Tobias Harris. Doesn't need the ball in his hands. Better shooter. Better and more versatile defender. Plus he would have come much cheaper in trade. And he'll be getting paid a lot less.

We should have traded for him instead.

Right. He's a good 3 point shooter, just not 48.8% good. My bigger mistake was looking at Harris's basketball-reference page and thinking he had more good 3 point shooting years than he's had since he's played for so many different teams in the past few years.

That I agree with, but I just think in general Philadelphia has crappy ownership. You have some owners who are obsessed with winning and will put any egos or agendas aside to win titles. It sounds like a very simple concept, but it's crazy how many owners won't or can't do it.

Sometimes I sit back and ask myself how professional organizations can do something really stupid. It happens all the time. A trade, cutting a player, whatever, that every sports fan goes "WHAT?? Why in the hell did they make this move, this is moronic!" If the fans can see it, why can't professionals? 99 times out of 100 it comes down to either ego or arrogance. I really don't think scouting or talent evaluation is all that incredibly difficult. You can see when a trade is going to hurt you team. But often owners or GMs just don't like someone and their egos are too big to mend fences so instead of biting the bullet and patching a relationship, let's just trade the player or cut the player. Let's keep a coach or GM around who sucks because my ego is too big to admit I made a mistake in hiring them. Or some owners just flat out don't care.

I think unfortunately for us we've had the bad fortune of bad ownership over the years. Harris is a turd, no idea who is running the Flyers right now. Lurie cares at least and Middleton seems like he cares, so maybe we have 2 out of 4 in this town. But I just don't think our organization will ever be elite with Harris. He cares more about keeping guys he likes than making the right hires.. his obsession with keeping this front office fully in tact was absurd. That's what I just talked about. Ego overtaking doing the right thing for your organization. I just want an owner who puts all that aside and cares about winning at all costs. You'd think most owners would be that way but it's really the opposite. I can only name a handful.

We've had bad luck as fans with bad GMs, but also owners who don't prioritize winning and that's why the Sixers and Flyers haven't won in decades. No doubt in my mind if we had a great owner, none of this crap with Hinkie being forced out would've ever happened in the first place, and we would've had a real GM search and not hired Brand.

Because you have to surround Ben with natural scorers who can be elite spot up shooters. This is also why Dario had a good chemistry with Ben (we were pairing those two a lot back then). You can’t surround Ben with a bunch of role players. Ben is not a scorer he plays more like a role player. Like a star caliber glue guy than a LeBron where you can surround him with a handful of delonte west aka “Shamet” type players.

Another thing is the limitation of our team relative to FA attractiveness. Sure I want Kd or Ad. But my belief is we’re just a second or third tier FA team. You dont hear players asking to be traded because they want to play in Philadelphia.

Tobias or Jimmy aren’t good enough to turn down 5 year offers. And if both re-signs, we should be the most or one of the most talented teams out there. We took a calculated risk.

While the alternative is the dark abyss of being a perpetual treadmill team with role players surrounding Ben and Biid.

Or we can trade Ben and stop handicapping the rest of our roster because of his BS allergy of shooting the rock.

Dont get me wrong. I also share the same sentiment.

Its not our fate to trade him. Could have been Kawhi or AD but maybe doing so would be reckless and is THE rental guys here are referring, since both guys are one of those stars who are abusing the power given to them by the league and in effect are destroying teams that invested on them.

Right now, i dont know if there are available guys worth trading for with Ben.

tobias is better fit.

This team needs to pair Butler and Biid. Then when both Butler and Biid sits, we need someone who can create on offense.

When all our starters are on the court, sure porter is better. But its not our starting unit that is the problem. Its the Embiid off court and Ben on court unit. We need a PnR playmaker like Tobias who can also be elite spot up shooter on our 5 man unit, then bolster up our defense like Thybulle, zhaire, Ben plus a dedmon to surround Ben with in that 5 man non Embiid unit.

Selfish motive. I hope DLo signs with us. I dont know if he’ll be good for us but I love watching a shooter/playmaker guard

Been here for 20 years. Most of those years were spent in sixers mediocrity with owners satisfied on just making the playoffs.

This ownership go to great distance to build a contender. Whether its tanking, building a state of the art facility or acquiring players and willing to open their pockets to re-sign them. We have one of the best owners in the league.

Regarding GMs.

Hinkie got us assets, but he was unlucky with the draft except for Biid. Traded maybe the best 2 way PG and ended up with 2 lotto picks in 2013, unlucky enough to pass up Giannis or Gobert. Almost took Wiggins in 2014, lucky enough to end up with Biid. 2015, he had bad rep with agents that KP didnt want to play for us. Nevertheless, he drafted okafor. Got the lakers and kings pick, looked promising but end up way below expected value. Blue balls entertainment.

Colangelo. Went all in for Fultz, who was once regarded as the prototype PG in today’s NBA. Can defend multiple positions, run PnR heavily and 3 level scorer. Alternative was like Josh Jackson or the ho-hum Tatum. Ouch. Most of BC’s moves were short term euphoria. Like TLc, most forget but people were giving high praise on drafting TLC and Korkmaz and the Fultz trade in 2016.

Brand. I love Brand that he’s combination of risk taker and realistic. He’s not delusional to believe a Kawhi or kD will sign with us. He recognizes the downside of a Ben-Biid+role players team long term. He also recognizes, Fultz as a damaged goods. People lately criticizes him for showing his cards for Thybulle, but its not like we gave up a lotto pick for him. Its a low pick on a very crappy draft.

Life is not a game of chess. Its a game of poker. Luck plays a large part and you have to max out what is given to you. And that involves going for the highest payoff and doing what it takes to be the most talented team. And I believe that is what we’ve been doing ever since we traded Iguodala for Bynum.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but I think trading for Porter would have enabled us to keep Chandler and Shamet plus the Miami Pick.
I think Fultz/Muscala and our pick would have been enough or maybe swap the Miami pick with ours.
We could have gone after kanter and I honestly think we would have been better off.
