His dad is smart, well spoken, and has great character. RJ seems to be a lot like his dad. This is one good family - no Lavar Ball or Janis Porzingis in that family. Just really good people, the kind you'd like to know, the kind you could trust, and the kind you definitely want on your team.
This is Perry's definition of character vs. Phil's definition of character (KP). We should be happy.

I know KP kind of had similar out of the gate flashes of being that level of player but his body type always lingers in the background as a possible stumbling block to fulfilling that potential. Plus with the league being more wing and guard dominated in style of play a big man relies very heavily on others to put him in a position to succeed so as we can see from other top notch big men without the right perimeter payers around them their impact can be limited.
RJ has the size and skill set to be that type of franchise changing player but...can the Knicks have nice things? I don't know that they can.
KP really was not that impactful out of the gate though
He made a splash in his rookie season by trailing plays and having flashy putbacks on missed shots plus a few notable blocked shots, but he was wobbly as a post-up player and would lose his dribble frequently in the high post. Once he got his sea legs, he put together some good offensive games and by the end of the season was looking like a player with real promise. But the gas tank issues were there in the first year and he faded towards the end of the season
We were always waiting for KP to break out and live up to his potential. The more I think about it, the more I think his body movements are not fluid enough for him to sustain a high energy game throughout the season without the risk of injury.

Compare young Mitch to young KP for instance. Mitch moves with fluidity. He is at home in his own body. KP was still adapting to his size and was at times awkward in his movements. I remember many times when he'd land after getting airborne and his ankles or legs would almost buckle. He just may not be built for pro basketball, but is more naturally adapted for eating fruit off tree branches.

No. I disagree. His neck is a bit short for the eunuch-horn to become a giraffe.
But I agree on how he moves. I always got nervous about him. Mitch just seems so fluid and natural, and is already a better defender around the basket and at the 3 point line.

I'm happier with Mitch than KP already. We certainly didn't lose anything on defense by subbing in Mitch for KP

We also got rid of Janice, too. We improved in character (goodbye, primadonna). The fact that he is better while younger than KP is just the kind of thing that keeps my blood racing.

You can tell he’s enjoying it but CAN’T WAIT to get on the floor and get to work. Please Scott, get the right vets around this kid. This is NEW YORK, you can’t just fantasy basketball if here. Locker room got to be right.

Yep, I remember Phil Jackson saying he might be too tall for basketball. Maybe it was him who also said the cut off was 7'2", it's interesting that KP is an inch above that and Mitch is an inch below.

There's bound to be some freak who defies the laws of physics at some point, but Phil was probably on to something with that.
Yao Ming was probably too big for basketball. He was good, but it didn't last very long.

FIxed!
Not really. Timmy would've won enough games for us last year to keep us out of that last spot so we'd be 5 at best.

Re: Official Welcome to the Knicks... The Maple Mamba!!
Would it be crazy to say that I think I prob wouldve drafted RJ with the 1st pick. After getting to know him alot better I think he is the perfect player for New York. And I have no questions about his work ethic or jump shooting. His god father is one of the greatest shooters of all time. So having free coaching from Nash is a plus. Hopefully Nash spreads that love to the teammates too.
RJ seems to be a really great dude. Def coppin RJ Barrett gear soon.

Yes that is a bit crazy but I respect it. I’m very excited about RJ. I’m not worried about the jumper or work ethic but I am a bit skeptical about his lack of a right hand. He literally ALWAYS goes left. I wonder how he’ll fare against NBA defenses that force him to his right. But the kid has a star mentality and I have no doubt he’ll work relentessly on his game

True, we need some vets in that locker room, and vets who can legitimately ball, no Lance Thomasses.
I'm not the biggest Millsap fan but some combination of Malcom Brogdon, Danny Green, Thad Young and Paul Millsap (not all four obviously) would be good for our young players. Maybe two of them, or even just one.

The good thing about that is hes actually right handed so he has plenty of time to work on that

i remember TC had a few really nice years in MIN. i had his NBA Hoops cards. lol. and of course, like so many, stunk it up on the knicks despite high expectations.
funny to bring him up, because he took a while to develop and break out.
