Re: Grant Williams thread
Why do I have this feeling that this will be Marcus Smart and Grant Williams as soon as they meet each other:
Couple of Grant Williams short articles:

Spoiler:
Couple of Grant Williams short articles:
https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/high-school/article231814778.html
“I’m amazed and I’m excited to get out there,” Williams said of heading to Boston. “I’m excited to wear that Celtic green and to be able to compete on the court for coach Brad Stevens and my teammates ... (Boston officials) said ‘Enjoy the moment and enjoy the night. We’ll talk when things settle down.’ They said, ‘We’re glad to have you,’ and I’m glad to be a part of the organization. I couldn’t be more thankful.”
“I’m a guy that can guard multiple positions,” he said. “I’m a guy who on the offensive end can initiate offense and also be a guy screening, moving the ball efficiently and knocking down open shots. So I feel like fit very well.”
https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/college/mens-basketball/article228235174.html
“I have a lot of faith in myself,” Williams said after Tennessee beat South Carolina in Columbia in January. “I knew what I could do, and (Tennessee) coach (Rick) Barnes instilled more faith in me than I knew before. I was never the most athletic talent. I was never the quickest, but it was always about the time in the gym.
“But I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder. No matter where I’m at, people will always doubt me, and that kind of gives me some inspiration.”
“He’s a fierce competitor,” Field said, “but he is a giant teddy bear. That’s how I always described him. He’s a goofball. And he’s still the exact same Grant. He hasn’t turned into a guy who thinks he’s big time. He’s the same ol’ guy from Charlotte who’s always got a smile on his face, always clowning around and having fun and he will talk with anyone who wants to talk with him.
“Despite all of his success, he’s remained true to the person he is.”

Don`t know if this has been posted before...
https://www.thestepien.com/2019/06/09/draft-notes-grant-williams-chosen-24-40-drafts-second-best-play/
It is basically a piece about trading down and getting value...Williams is taken as an example…
From 6) onward it is really interesting read about him...

Tennessee fan and Hornets fan that has watched Grant for the last few years. I have no doubt he will become a fan favorite with you guys.
His first year at Tennessee we were projected by the media to finish last in league play. We ended up finishing tied for 2nd and Williams emerged as the best player on the team despite not being a highly rated recruit. The following two years he wins back to back SEC player of the year and team success also improves every year.
It takes a special type of player to go to a school that is not a traditional college basketball power and vault them into elite status.

Re: Grant Williams thread
Williams is not going to dominate physically with length or explosiveness. He plays mostly below the rim and doesn't have great foot speed on defense.
He more then makes up for this with elite BBiq on both ends. He is going to lead your team in charges taken in crucial moments. He is going to get big blocks and steals because of great anticipation and always being in the right position. He is going to improve you team defense by making all the right rotations.
He is not going to be draymond green or pj tucker or big baby or many of the other guys mentioned. His best comparison is probably Jared Dudley, a smart player who is an elite roll player willing to do all the little things. He doesn't shoot it as well from deep at this point but he will develop that.
His inside scoring is already very good where he is a difficult shot maker that other teams can't afford to put on the free throw line. He has seen constant double teams for the last two years and is used to being the focus of the opposing teams defensive game plan. He might struggle vs bigger and longer defenders but he will feast if the other team tries to put a smaller player on him or hide a weak defender on him.

Re: Grant Williams thread
Grant Williams is going to wear #11. He was offered the number today. Good to know that Kyrie, by leaving Boston, will have lived up to his promise of making sure it gets retired.

I hope you are right and at the same time i hope the kid remains himself....Like him so far....I just hope he keeps working hard and keeps the pounds off him...His build is an extra hamburger or two away from going "big baby" on us...that is all...
If he has a nose for the ball like in his high lite reels, we have us a fine player who could even contribute right away!

He looks like Shaq's little brother.
Good assessment:

Agreed. A very solid guy. I don’t see an all star but definitely a contributor

Paul Millsap is his ceiling. And that's pretty high.

Millsap had better physical tools. Longer arms, good first step. Grant is slower. But he is more skilled.
I think older Diaw is the best comp I've seen though that's not quite his cieling.
