Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
I think Jimmy's impact is being grossly undervalued, the Toronto series would have been a slaughtering if not for him. I'd prefer not to lose him but a sign and trade with the Rockets is a hell of a lot better than him walking.

I won't be worried if Elton keeps being a disaster like he has been the last few months we will be screwed anyway ...

Any chance Orl can slide in as the 3rd team and send you Fournier, while we take Gordon from Houston?

Yes we know patience is one of your virtues
I'm beginning to think our free agent policy is similar to Arsenal's transfer policy....a hot mess.

But we're the best team in the league with Embiid in the middle, and I'm not sure that changes if you replace jimmy and jj with eric gordon and terrence ross (mle). Then the second unit defense would be on point with Capela, instead of Boban or Greg Monroe or Amir or Bolden. If Zhaire and Bolden improve, while we also get a better backup point guard than TJ, we'd be absolutely unbeatable.
We'd never be anything like the -80 it was against Toronto. Joel can have all the rest he needs. Bottom line is with both Embiid and Capela, we'd have the best defense in the league for 48minutes by a long, long, long shot. The way Joel guards the wing and shoots, you could play them together for quick stretches if you wanted to completely demoralize opponents. Lol.
Gordon and Capela and picks might not be the worst deal in the world. Although I would not be as hopeful about those picks as other would, since I anticipate the Rockets would roll out CP3, Harden, Butler, PJ Tucker, and Nerlens Noel (MLE)
That's an awful big contract for a back-up center who can't play alongside Embiid as a 4.

Why do so many people all of a sudden seem to think that Jimmy's walking? Have I missed something?

I think you could spin it either way TBH.
Positive:In the playoffs and in some clutch moments last season, he showed his worth on the big stage. Perhaps his "upside" in this system and on this team around Ben/Embiid/etc could blossom to new heights with an actual off-season and camp to train and learn it.
Negative:
-Age.Dudes gonna 30 years old by the time the season starts and has logged a ton of minutes in the NBA.
-Cost.32+ million a year, for 5 years is a TON of money.I highly doubt Jimmy Butler is still a high level player at the end of that contract.
-Fit.You could argue that he is not necessarily an ideal fit paired with Embiid/Ben. Maybe he works on his shot if he stays here to help? I watched all the games, and there were stretches where he was absolutely non existent for us and looked lost out there.
I think it is a potential win/win situation in my eyes.
-If he stays, we run it back with Butler/Embiid/Ben and compete for the East for the next few years.
-If he leaves, I could see us re-tooling, focusing on higher usage/scoring for Harris and better complimenting him,Ben,Embiid with better fitting high level role players or another max level player.

Yeah we had no business pushing up the timeline so much and going "all-in" this year anyway. I'm more than happy to reset our timeline for the long-term to match with Embiid and Simmons, who are going to be 25 and 23 next season.
That's why I want D'Lo if we can get him. Him, Embiid, and Simmons could be our long-term big 3 for the next 10 years.

And Harris is only 26....It's why I have become more and more open to the idea of retaining just 1 of Harris/Butler. Harris' age fits perfectly with our core, and his game when firing/utilized on all cylinders, compliments Ben/Embiid perfectly.
I had no issues with going all in via the Butler trade, mainly because I don't think we gave up much. Roco was solid, but was well worth the chance. Dario was just another guy and can be replaced fairly easily IMO.
Ive said it before and i'll say it again....JJ Redick plays the most important role for this offense opposite Embiid. I think finding someone younger, more athletic and more versatile than JJ to fill his role would take this team to another level (offensively)

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
i'm fine w/ letting one guy walk..regardless of how it happens.
BUT
there has to be a good player coming into replace him and not a Wilson Chandler tier corpse.
I fear the latter w/ this FO

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
I know everyones sights are set of "Max" players, but I am really curious as to what Terrence Ross is going to cost....If Butler was to roll, His skillset would seem to fit our needs on the wing and his athleticism could potentially give us a boost with his ability to be used as a cutter/lob/transition player as opposed to someone like JJ.
Could still bring back JJ at a reasonable rate.

Could Julius Randle be a good option to replace Butler? He should cost way less and maybe we could build a better overall roster? Randle, Harris and a Terence Ross/Jeremy Lamb/KCP type would surely be decent If Jimmy leaves? Could we afford that?

Julius Randle would be a TERRIBLE fit in Philly and plays a totally different position to Butler.
Butler is a 2-way 2/3
Randle is a PF who can not shoot. NO way he'd fit with Ben Simmons/Embiid.

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
If Bulter doesn't want to resign, wouldn't Al Horford be the perfect 4/5 player with allocation of cap, one that can play the backup 5 to Embid while also playing together with Embid in crunchtime?
If Harris is not signing, is it worth a gamble on spending the rest of the cap space on Malcom Brodgon, to force Bucks a difficult decision with their own cap space? And if he signs with Sixers, he adds spacing to lessen the need for JJ Reddick's shooting on the floor, while being a much better defender. And then use the full exception on a guard/wing, e.g. Beverly, Danny Green etc. There is no need to find competent Bigs with various exceptions. Though if Bucks match, then we might need to space the cap on various wings shooters.

Well firstly Harris can play the SF position snd Randle the PF. Secondly Randle greatly improved In all departments last year so your notion is outdated..thirdly Butler barely shoots threes so what's the difference anyway? Randle cam only get better unlike Jimmy.

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
I'm certainly not opposed to a S&T with Houston.
Perhaps I'm missing something (cap-wise or skewed value return for one of the teams), but a trade like this has an interesting foundation:
Houston out: Capela + Tucker + Davis + 2022 1st round pick
Kings out: Bogdanovic + 2021 1st round pick
Sixers out: Butler
Houston in: Butler (32.7m) for Capela (16.9m) + Tucker (8.3m) + 2022 1st round pick
Kings in: Capela (16.9m)
Sixers in: Tucker (8.3m) + Bogdanovic (8.5m) + 2021 1st round pick (SAC) + 2022 1st round pick (HOU)
Then re-sign Redick, Harris, Scott. Sign back up center for BAE and guard/wing with MLE.
