I didn't interpret this series of moves as a demotion to bacon. I think they legitimately want bacon to go get some serious game action to keep him fresh. They also need some warm bodies for practice with injuries to lamb and Cody so they brought in JP. I definitely don't see this as JP getting promoted over bacon.
