We'll be getting 2 2nds from the Cavs now.

Which is why I crapped on that Cavs trade at the time it was made. It was either going to be a very late first if LeBron stayed or wasn’t going to convey and would become a much less valuable 2nd round combo package If he left.

Unfortunate.

A late first for Korver at that point would have been great. I think it was worth the gamble. Especially since Cleveland's 2nds likely won't be far from the first round.

People were super excited about the potential to get a juicy mid-round first. I kept telling them it will either be a very late first or second rounders. My issue with the trade wasn't as much ultimately the value as that we were strengthening our biggest rival and that we did the trade without exploring options nearer to the trade deadline. I hated bolstering Cleveland's biggest weakness for a modest return without seeing if we couldn't get a similar return from other teams as their needs became clearer.

Among Hawks trades that I disliked, it is certainly one of the least objectionable with the benefit of hindsight. (That primary benefit of hindsight being understanding just how spent KK was and seeing how little he helped them.)

Despite Hawks' nice haul from the Luka Doncic deal, Rookie of the Year voting shows Mavs got a generational talent

A whopping 98% of voters favored Luka Doncic over poor Trae Young, the biggest landslide since the Gipper posterized Fritz Mondale. In fairness, Luka and Trae weren't even on the same ballot. The media held the Mavs' wunderkind up for inspection against Oscar Robertson, not the Hawks' electric wraith.

Only the Big O had a better rookie season, statistically speaking, than Luka.

Or maybe you think Luka-vs.-Trae wasn't a fair comparison in the first place. Maybe you say the question is whether Luka is better than Trae and the Hawks' first-round pick this year, Cam Reddish.

Sure, he played in the formidable shadow of Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett at Duke. But that's the thing: He'll play alongside good players in Atlanta, too. Will he occasionally disappear, as he did in college?

Chances are the Mavs can find a piece like Reddish easily enough. They need to find someone better, in fact.

Only one season is in the books, but, the way it looks now, the final tally on the great 2018 draft could come down to the two guys who were traded for each other. Not to get too old school on you, but everything else being equal, go with the big guy over the little guy.

Listen, the Hawks have no complaints coming about the '18 draft. They got the second-best player, probably, and a lottery pick this year. Young may use the voting snub as motivation to take his game up a level or two. You could probably bet on it.

I like how they mention that the Mavs can find a player like Reddish easily enough.

The last two 1st-Rounders the Mavs found "easily enough" in the Draft and kept around for more than one season?
