my thought process is even if KD doesn't totally work out and come back to form for next were we will still be developing our youth and should get a high draft pick.
If we sign guys like Randle/DLO or other we tie up all our cap space and take our developmental minutes away plus might be a 9th or 8th seed and reep no draft pick reward.
KD almost ties up space to not do anything stupid and continue the build...which is sad but that is worse case scenario. Best case is KD redshirts and comes back close to 100%, the kids develop, and we get a high 2020 pick. That is Plan A right now
He's my fear about committing to KD. Committing to KD means to win now. Even with that redshirt year. I'm afraid that we'll flip this whole roster just to win something with Durant within that 4 year window.
Durant will be out year one(age 31), year two (age 32) he'll have set back and sit out a lo of games because of soreness and load management. Year 3 (age 33) will be when he'll close to his old self, then after that he's in a contract year (age 34).
These kids will not be ready to win until possible RJ Barrett enter into his 5th year (which is outside Durant's contract years)
That is what the Durant era will look like. Lots of questions and waiting around. In addition Durant has played with nothing but MVP caliber players his whole career. Now on the other side of 30 we expect him to carry the young kids on a bum leg. Durant is about 10 years older than the average age of our roster.
To me this timeline along with these circumstances will NOT produce a championship or a Finals appearance. So why commit all this money, time, and energy and media stories about will he wont he for a guy you wont win with.
Durant is not a long term plan endeavor. Especially with his injury. So what's the point. Just to have him?
KD's timeline is way beyond the timeline of our core. I doesn't make sense to me.
