1 - you're correct and we're still the favorites and this got out to make us look bad
2 - we released this information to save face. on some "he didn't turn us down, we turned him down."

who knows

I do have to say, my speculation is mostly based on my intuition that... well... the man ruptured his **** Achilles at almost 31. I mean, that should give anyone pause.

Nobody is going to buy number 2 anyway. Most fans and media will crap on us and note us as failures once again. It's too popular a narrative that will not change unless the Knicks start winning and earning respect.

It’s not bad to want to see his medical records but he obviously had it leaked it for a reason.

It’s damage control for if he goes to the Nets.

of course. the question was more why this got out to the public. it could be that the knicks just have a hard time with leaks like a lot of teams do and it means nothing.

If the Knicks sign Durant, I'll be happy and it'll only be momentary happiness because I'd be able to curse out the Nets and laugh at them. But who will be doing the long-term laughing? Signing KD will honestly raise more concerns than solve any issues.

Wherever he signs, he'll have a big press conference and there will be big hoopla for a guy who is not even playing next year. It just doesn't seem like a big win is all I'm saying.

Very true. Actually, KD's or Kyrie's camp could have leaked it.

it does seem like it's a battle to win the press conference. no matter what teams wins, they're at best losing in the 1st round next year. and after that who knows.

from SAS the initial report was reluctance...he corrected himself saying its not reluctance knicks are just doing there due dilegence on the medical records which they should obviously do before committing 160 million to a player coming off a serious injury.

It's an unprecedented situation to give someone a supermax deal who is guaranteed not to play for 1 season. So essentially you're paying this guy for 3 potential seasons out of 4 including the final year which will be nearly 50 million for a guy who will be 35.

This isn't an ACL or PCL or meniscal tear of the knee, it's an Achilles rupture which is exponentially much harder to come back from at any age.

I'd be highly trepidatious to do this if he were in his mid 20's. At his current age though? I don't see how anyone can be on board with signing him. This is way too high of a risk and completely unnecessary at this juncture since this team isn't competing next season anyway.
