Offseason Thread: KD opts out...To KD or not to KD

KD needs to prove he is KD before we pay him like HE is KD
We have become her league Destination for players looking to get paid before retirement. That or their big payday before they fall off the cliff. We are so desperate to restore the Knicks to greatness we often overpay for Damaged goods. With any other franchise you take the risk on KD. Of this off-season is any indication of our luck,of our history and negative experiences along these lines in the past. You pass on KD! Kyrie injury Prone ! KD is coming back from a Major injury in his thirties. Stick with the youth invest your energy in our player development, our coaches that will develop these talents and accept we have to build. There will be no hero to come and save the Knicks. We must circle the wagons! Build it for ourselves (Talent). Spurs have a prestige’s franchise not because of their Free Agent signings. Their prestige comes from player development. We need to let this get rich free agency scheme go. If the deal is 100% good for us..... we need to wait for the right deal To come along

Achilles or no Achilles, is anybody surprised that the Knicks went from heavy favorites to underdogs? It may be true or not true, but no matter what, the media was always going to go from 'The Knicks have him' to 'The Knicks don't have him.' I would have been very surprised at any other reporting.

Do what you want with this info, but my friend's father is really good friends with Kyrie's uncle - and has been telling him Nets all along. My friend told me in March that he plans on going there before the Nets rumors even picked up - I thought he was crazy I laughed at him. Just doesn't make sense to me, but whatever happens, happens.

Maybe KD's lack of confidence in his recovery is why he might think of Brooklyn? He knows that if he's a shell of himself, it'll be a huge problem in NYC. If he's a shell of himself in Brooklyn, he can live a happy life.

He could also live a happy life staying with the Warriors and earning that extra year of max money.

only reasons that remotely make sense for him to leave GS IMO:

1. totally invested in working elsewhere (NYC for business purposes, etc.)
2. soured on GS organization/medical staff
3. not really feeling the teammates/work environment

if it's not one of those issues, i don't see why someone in his position would turn down a supermax if offered.

First, it's not about money. That's a low priority in this discussion. For Durant, it's ALL about reputation. Think about it. Upside in Manhattan is he can become a god. The downside is he could have an absolutely miserable 4 years where his name becomes synonomous with our failures over that stretch. I don't think he really cared about the downside aspect before getting hurt.

However, now that he is hurt, you have to account for the risk of getting re-injured or never being the same again. If that happens, Mahattan is probably the worst place to ball in the world. In Brooklyn, he will still have the opportunity to prove his greatness without the same attention if it all turns into a colossal failure.

So, all in all, I think he has already decided that he's leaving. Now, he may be looking for the lowest downside. As long as he wins, he will have proven his point. It just wont be as epic as with the Knicks.

Once Durant got hurt the cheat code option went out the window. Everything still left on the table is rife with volatility.

We're relying on Perry to be that guiding light through the treachery and make the right decisions, because (besides Kawhi) there is no obvious path left. Fortunately that's what Scott has been building and preparing for his whole life, and all I'm going to do is sit back and wait for his moves.

I mean, that's all we can ever do, we're just fans. Or, maybe they consider Kyrie second-tier. Why would they meet with Kawhi + KD and THEN go to LA to meet with second tiers? If they're planning with second tier guys, they must be pretty confident that KD is coming.

This to me looks like they're going to confirm the signing with KD. Then, use him in an attempt to lure Kawhi. Then, if that doesn't work, they're flying out to the West coast to bring one of the second tiers in next to KD.

If that travel schedule is true, I'm really confident that they think they have KD in the bag. I wouldn't be surprised if Klay + KD turns into a thing.

how many stars who could guarantee $220m coming off a devastating, potentially career-altering/ending injury? i can't think of any. i'm speaking to his specific situation. i'll be the first one to tell folks not to assume that supermax is gonna keep someone. i guess for me, risking $57m would never be something i could do. sure, he could come back fine and extend and basically make it all back. but, he also could NOT.
