Just from what I think, it’s always best to keep expectations low on signing big name players or trading for them. How many times were we in the driver seat to get someone big but eventually it goes to another rumored team? If it happens, great. If it doesnt, I don’t want to feel disappointed anymore.

That's a hell of a lot better than Rozier and Vucevic. Hello 6th seed.
I don't think that we have the Cap Space for that.
And Rozier, as a Starter, made it to within 5 mins of the 2018 Finals.
All depends on how much Jordan wants, but it definitely is a possibility.
And Rozier as a starter was a cute story in 2018 in an extremely weak East, but not anymore. Guy is a malcontent who thinks he's better than he is because he had a good two rounds in the playoffs.

Still not a fan of a volume shooter at PG for this team, esp sans Horf but the contract would probably be solid value until the last year
I went through this same thing regarding his age. You're most likely getting 2 years of elite offensive play with the question marks getting increasingly bigger as his contract ticks down.

How many playoff games did Rosier get the opportunity to start against those teams this year?
Don't get me wrong, I am conflicted about bringing him back after his media tour, but I don't understand the hate on his game when it is patently obvious that the team and Rosier thrive when he starts.

Walker can play and is likely to mostly live up to his contract the first 3 years of an extension during regular season at least but I think he is a bad fit right now as well and Ainge just targeting him since he is kind of infatuated with scoring PGs and desperate for any very good player that can be marketed as a star to fans to join the Celtics. And the question becomes, how much Ainge can change the roster in the next 6 months before trading deadline since signing Walker while punting on next season is rather stupid if the goal is banner #18. But quite honestly, I now seriously question whether their primary or even secondary goal is banner #18. They may just be trying to make a lot of money -- understandable...Celtics are a business -- and to be "competitive" which obviously helps make them money. If while doing those two things, they end up with a title shot, great but if they don't they can more than live with it. Ainge/Wyc won't say this since it will upset a large part of fan base but it may be true.
How likely is it for a team that has Walker and Hayward on max deals to win a championship? One can legitimately argue that those two are equal to Lowry(better than Walker for playoff basketball IMHO) and Gasol(Hayward arguably could be better) but Raptors also had Leonard and Siakam. And Raptors spending lots of money.
Problem I see with signing Walker, the moment you do, the trade value of Hayward may stayed depressed next year since it will be tough for him to get enough shot attempts and the logjam at the PG/SG/SF positions if players play their proper position will be kind of crazy. One can try to rectify this by trading Brown for a big but how likely is it for the Celtics to get a similar type of prospect? Such a move I don't think helps the trade value of Tatum/Brown either since any Celtics "success" will probably mostly go to K Walker whether it is right or wrong. He would be the leading scorer and folks don't look at defense much.....
Ainge is in a tough situation but I think better off doing a mini rebuild or at least go younger with the FA acquisitions but human nature is to tell Irving and to a lesser extent Horford and the national media to F off for leaving/doubting the Celtics and to try to do well next year in playoffs.

Re: Celtics General Off-Season pt 4: Talking Kemba til Septemba
I’m on board the Kemba train. Yeah, we aren’t going to be better on paper losing Kyrie and Al, but adding an all star PG and surround him with a couple young wings is still a solid foundation. Just have to hope they click better than they did with Kyrie and that Hayward can grow to some sort of a decent player again.
Our bigmen depth is an absolute mess, but hopefully we can find some players that can do some sort of a job on Embiid etc, even if it won’t be close to as well as Al.

Get kemba and I may be willing to start drinking that banner 18 koolaid again. I still need to see the final roster first but some of y'all are really sleeping on kemba. Dude is legit.

I wonder if we can bring in a vet pg to mentor Smart. Rondo would be great but he probably just stays in LA. Any true pass first point guard vets we could get? Feel like we need to bring in a stabilizing presence anyways, pg might be the best position to bring in. Ainge has done it before in a similar situation with Payton.
Maybe GP as an assistant coach? I don’t know that Smart needs a mentor exactly but idk.
Smart doesn't need a mentor. His problems are athletic. He doesn't have turn the corner speed, advanced shot making, good touch or great vision. He's a competent ball handler/passer and secondary driver with size and strength and a streaky spot up j
I'm not saying we should get Smart a mentor because I think he needs it, or there is a problem to fix. It's more about maximizing potential. He is already an ok starting point on offense, his shooting is ok now too. But he has a lot of heart and drive, so he could become really good at running the O and getting dimes. I'd like to see if he cane take that step this year.

Kemba then Capela should be the goal. Brown or Smart would be gone though.

I certainly prefer Kemba over Vucevic, but giving him a max would limit the rest of our roster construction.
We need a starting quality C, one that hopefully can rebound and shoot 3s.

If it happens, the drop off from Kyrie to Kemba isn't much, and might not be a drop off at all.
The potential drop off from Horford/Baynes to ???, is the mystery. Maybe Danny's got a wing for center trade lined up somewhere. Or maybe they'll do something like sign a leftover vet after the initial free agent frenzy, sign Poirier, hope Robert Williams/Grant Williams are rotation ready, and see what they have.
They can always make a wing-for-big swap later if necessary.
Also, Go Tacko! I'm rooting for you!

I've seen a lot of interest in Capela but keep in mind, if we do sign Kemba, those dreams may die because Houston is trying to move him to a team with cap space, which we would no longer have.

Don't know how Ainge can be involved in this and still sign Kemba to a max deal. Ainge has to find a home for Hayward in order for this to be meaningful to the Celtics.

Capela is probably the move if Kemba fails.
No chance Ainge should be trading Brown for him like some suggest here though.

Well, if the Celtics indeed land Walker, one would think after drafting three guards and the overabundance of wing players, that Ainge has some sort of deal lined up where he trades wings/guards for a quality 4/5. That only makes sense.
People have mentioned Sabonis and he's terrific as long as there's an understanding that he's a 4 on defense and a 5 on offense.
