If Kemba leaves,Who is our starting point guard?

Post#1 » by BobsBuddy » Wed Jun 26, 2019 12:34 pm

:banghead: :eek2: Huh Dah...NoBody currently on the roster is even qualified to start. Any ideas who we might go out and get through trade or FA Signing? I believe that we only get a portion of this years salary for signing another FA?
That being said we would be looking at second tier Point Guards :nonono:

Graham or maybe a free agent like Seth Curry.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Graham and Monk. We can get a new one with our top 3 pick in the draft.

Next year's class is really deep with guard talent - Anthony Edwards, Cole Anthony, RJ Hampton, Theo Maledon, Tyrese Maxey, Nico Mannion, etc.

Kerwin Roach and Cody Martin can "somewhat" play PG because they are combo guards so maybe one of them.

Many people compare Obeisei to S.G.A. (dunno why) but Iv'e seen it quite a bit. So maybe they listen to me and bring him in.

Other than that not sure.

Graham I have always liked so I think he can hold it down for a year until we draft one.

It would be someone we sign in free agency. So think Rubio, Rose, Payton, Beverley, Collison, Austin Rivers, Lin, Mudiay, Discount Curry etc.

Devonte Graham is probably the the most overrated player on our roster. He's the same as age as Noah Vonleh. I'd honestly rather run Batum at point then start him.

Maledon is not the best option as 1st pg imo. Anyway, he will play in EL with Asvel (Parker's team), so plenty of reports to come. I 'd rather see a franco-american player, Hayes, in a Hornets uniform. He is less one dimentional than Maledon, even though the latter has pretty good speed and size for the pg spot. Defensively i dont think he can really improve to prevent from being a liability (and it's by far his biggest weakness, but his use of the ball and 'pg skills' are also a work in progress). Even though he's just 17 (maybe 18 now).

Hayes on the other hand has really good potential on both ends, sort of a Jrue Holiday light (we'll see how he develops, next year he should have a bigger role in his team). He was mvp of euro U16 couple years ago. And he has the clutch genes (something that can't be taught, just like the size).

If Kemba leaves then that would allow us to use the MIdLevel exception which is predicted to be 9.7 million.

If Kemba stays we go into the tax then we will have 5.9 million to sign somebody.

Also, we have the possibility to use the bi-annual exception because we didn’t use it last year. It is projected to be 3.6 million.

So to answer the question we would have just under 10 million to sign an outside player for a Kemba replacement.

Cost too much
D. Russell
T. Rozier
M. Brogdon

We just can’t afford these guys.

The LA guys
Patrick Beverly
Rondo

Expect both of them to be back in LA each on one of the teams.

Best Fits

Rubio- good leader, won’t cost a ton, makes others better. I would give him like 2/16

Devontae Graham-develop him, but most likely a backup/placeholder

Emmanuel Mudiay- potential still

Darren Collison- solid
Corey Joseph- def first/solid
Elfrid Payton- makes others better
Ish Smith- charlotte native/exp.
Seth Curry- not a true point

Trade Candidates

Dante Exum- low risk move
Kris Dunn- bulls hate him
Lonzo Ball- big fan

Just no point

Tyus Jones- restricted
Tomas Satoransky- restricted
Derrick Rose- bad fit
Jerian Grant- just bad
TJ McConnell- not a starter
Jeremy Lin- old and slow

I'm boarding the Anthony Edwards train if Kemba leaves.

I'm thinking it would be too much to ask Graham to start and could hurt his development since he likely is going to peak as a career back-up.

I'd probably give a look at Terry Rozier or Tyus Jones.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

I'd sign Thomas. He is basically a smaller version of Kemba.

Maybe 3 years ago.

:noway: Grahams stats says he really is a liability at PG...… Even though Monks stats on Assists and Turnovers are less than stellar, he's a better selection as a backup than Graham with Batum bringing the ball down the court.. I like the idea of trading for Frank Mason in Sacremento
What would it take? :o :-?

Ideally, whoever makes us lose more without hurting development of the youth.
