The price for Jimmy Butler

Assuming Butler signs 5/188m and we can have him through trade. What's the maximum price you are willing to pay?

My answer:

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

I just don't understand NBA's contract anymore. The max contract slopes well beyond the annual inflation. Is anyone in Tier 2 and below really worth $40m a year anymore?

Paul got his brothers paid, and as a result, we have more and more James Ennis III guys earning vet min at the age of 28.

It doesn't take a scientific genius to figure out that a player's athletic prime rarely comes after turning 30, let alone 32, 33, 34... and now all those guys hitting $40m a year well into their 30s. President of the NBPA is doing his work.

Anyway about the Butler trade, at least there is some good news. PJ is off the list.

The fit is back and the board is already questioning it. Let's call this episode, The Fit 2.0.

I will see when it happens, but looks like Butler is interested in the Heat. Which means the Rockets will just bring back the old crews.

I guess Capela isn’t going anywhere with Butler going to Miami. Rockets should just make their bench stronger

It feels like I should be disappointed that the Rockets didn't land a guy they were after but, as some of you know, I've had questions about Butler going back to last year:

In addition to depleted depth.

Adding Jimmy is definitely worth a shot but only at the right price because he comes with certain risks.

I stand by that position.

So I'm really kinda "meh" about it all.

I'm more curious now about how they fill out the roster with regard to the depth that was lacking most of last season.
The West looks even more wide open and the Rockets really can't afford a slow start like the one that put them in a hole last year.

I'm not gonna lie. I wanted Jimbo and a bit of a shake up on this roster while still keeping Harden and Paul.

But I am still with it. Now the Rockets still need to fill their voids at the backup C/PF position.

I was kind of on the Jimmy boat too. I watched that video, he was already talking about stuff like driving from Sugarland to arena isn't bad, he would be living in Tomball if he came here, etc.

Here is the thing. It really depend on what your goal is. If you think getting that window to challenge for a championship next year or two, then suck for a very long time with 2 aging super max (if not 3) and absolutely no assets is acceptable - then go for Jimmy, but just like that move to get Paul 2 years ago, if you cannot pull if off, there will be dire consequences. It's like throwing your life saving in Vegas - you either get filthy rich, or you are broke.

To me, I would rather prefer stay competitive for a longer time and have a healthier salary structure. The chance of winning a championship with a $40m per year Butler is not necessarily higher than finding your next young Parsons/Siakam/Draymond.

I say the same to LeBron, now to Butler. Let alone their ego, the baggage they come with, etc.
