I don't know man, these guys can't handle the basics let alone something with forethought and planning.

You can believe they're dumb if you want. Sports franchises spin stories all of the time. That's why there is a PR department. Stuff like this happens before every trade to prepare the fanbase, especially when it's a popular player. You really think Woj and Shams have some anonymous deep throat connection in EVERY organization that's tipping transactions? Would is talking directly to PR staff about this stuff.

The 76ers this story. It serves them more to have this come out than it serves Houston. Conditions the fans and it let's a Miami know to get in on this.

Maybe, there’s a pretty long history of Morey leaking far fetched rumors like this.

It’s such a funny one-sided story. It’s like Morey is working tirelessly on this monster transaction, and the Sixers are planning to just re-sign Jimmy.

I think there’s at least a chance what’s really going on here is Houston wants to get off a contract to save money under the tax while picking up picks and they are using this wacky Butler thing as a cover for that.

None.

I also haven’t heard anything. But an account called Sixers Saturdays is saying an absolute bombshell is about to drop. I doubt the guy is credible, but I couldn’t help but to scroll through the comments and see all the Ben trade speculation.

Then the guy replies to two tweets with the eyes wide open, implying it’s a Ben trade. Then calls kemba to Boston the first domino.

I’m going to keep checking in on this. I like following when guys throw stuff like this out there.

Bev is an elite on-ball guard defender. He can take the pressure off Jimmy and Simmons or gives us 2 guard defender lineups. He also wasn't a ball handling PG for the Clippers, Shai was their playmaker, he was used offball.

As for TJ, that's been common knowledge for like 3 or 4 moths now. You're a bit behind on that one.

Having Jimmy and Ben guarding opponent’s PG for 48 minutes give us a big advantage. We can exploit opponents’ PG on the other end.

The ability to exploit the opposing PG depends on who else you have on the floor with them. It's not like you have to defend whoever is defending you. Forcing cross matches can be a plus, though you'd also be dealing with that on the other end.

Beverley would be a HUGE get for this team. You'd have an automatic top-5 defense in the league if you slide him into JJ's starting spot. And while he's obviously a downgrade from JJ offensively, he's still a really good catch and shoot guy that stretches the floor for you, and you've got plenty of offensive firepower in the lineup to make up for it.

I normally ignore these “sources,” but he is clearly implying Ben is being traded, so at least he isn’t being completely vague. That makes following his accuracy worth it. If Ben gets traded, I give it to him. He tries to take credit for anything else, it’s BS.

what would we even trade Ben for I wonder?

Booker is recruiting so I doubt he's on the move. Same w/ Towns.

I heard Kuzma...which would be really dumb.

i wonder if they are planning on trying to get Kyrie for Jimmy?

also you just know Ben will come out shooting jumpers all of a sudden for his new team lol.

So how many unprotected picks do Sixers get for helping HOU get Butler and taking that albatross contract from Boston?

This would make a lot of sense actually. Their new owner seems to be kinda cheap, and has already publicly said he regrets the CP3 contract.

Sixers can only take back 125% of Jimmy’s 18-19 salary in a sign and trade. Which is about 25M.

There are avenues where it becomes a need to move Simmons.

1. Kemba signs in Boston ruining any chance of Kyrie resigning there(because of #2). Could see Ainge/Boston willing to resign Kyrie to trade him for assets as soon as possible.
2. Brooklyn not signing Kyrie because there's not a basketball peer to keep Kyrie in check(even if they sign KD, he's not going to be playing for a year).
3. Kyrie goes back to wanting to play with Butler just like he wanted to when he was forcing a trade out of Cleveland.
4. Harris and JJ holds are released, Kyrie and Butler are signed and Ben is now marginalized even more when the playoffs come plus the roster is needed to be replenished with talent.
5. Ben is moved to the highest bidder(rookie contracts/draft picks), for example, NY could have their young guy to finally build around if the price is right and they have rookie contracts and draft picks to make it possible.

I'm not really sure any of those make much of a difference when it comes to a "need" to move Simmons. If they want to trade him and feel now is the best time to get max value then so be it.

With Ben being in a rookie contract, you aren’t getting max value. Would be very dumb to trade him right now.

There is also no truth to him being traded
