Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
Butler is the only one who can decide to leave Philly.
But Philly is the only actor that can rule if Butler is going to Houston.
So Philly has max leverage vs Houston and min leverage (max contact is a thing however) vs Jimmy.

And Kemba to the Celtics screams like agent threats to get the Hornets to pay up. I don’t think he will sign there.
nah I think the Hornets want to blow it up...overpaying Kemba the supermax kills that.
I just think Jordan is being cheap and needs a kick in the ass to decide to pony up the money.

It almost impossible the Sixers can't come out with a quality and cheap backup for Joel
only a few of whom can defend and stretch the floor. that's where the money goes. as we saw a month ago, its one thing to have a decent backup center, its another to get one who can be effective against the best teams in the league.

I don't think you necessarily need a 5 who can stretch the floor, so long as they can get up and down the floor, defend, block shots, rebound and finish around the basket.
You can compliment a decent defensive center with a stretch 4 and scoring PG and have a decent 2nd unit...Plus Jonah Bolden posses the potential to be a stretch big capable of playing both the 4/5 spots.
Boban simply couldn't defend anyone with an ounce of athleticism and couldn't keep up with pace of play, so it made him exploitable.

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
Let's say Jimmy demands to go to Houston:
Houston gets Butler.
OKC Thunder get PJ Tucker and Clint Capela. This deal will save them $9m in salary, and multiple times that in luxury taxes. It will also keep them competitive, so that the Sixers can get their 1st round pick next year, which is top20 protected.
Sacramento Kings get Steven Adams. They need a real five and have the capspace to absorb his 25m salary. Otherwise, they are not a free agent destination for good players.
Sixers get Jerami Grant as a starting forward, plus each team gives us a first round pick (SAC22, OKC23, HOU24). Use remaining 10m in capspace to sign Tomas Satoransky. Go over the cap to sign Redick and Scott. Use MLE to get a center who can defend and shoot, Thomas Bryant Jr.
Ben Simmons, JJ Redick, Jeremi Grant, Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid
Tomas Satoransky, Zhaire Smith, Mike Scott, Wilson Chandler, Thomas Bryant Jr.
Vasilije Micic, Shake Milton, Matisse Thybulle, Marial Shayock, Jonah Bolden.

I normally ignore these “sources,” but he is clearly implying Ben is being traded, so at least he isn’t being completely vague. That makes following his accuracy worth it. If Ben gets traded, I give it to him. He tries to take credit for anything else, it’s BS.
Reading through the tweets, I think it would be hard to be more vague. He's posted things like "never said it was a trade" and "who said it's about the Sixers." I don't think the eye balls tweet in regard to Ben really implies anything when you factor in all the other responses.
I haven’t checked it in a few hours, but earlier he said it was about the Sixers. He implied three times that it is a Ben trade, so not that I ever followed him before, but I will know what he is about and that I don’t have to read his tweets in the future if nothing happens.
I think the way to be more vague would be to just say a blockbuster is incoming and then stop responding. When someone says if Ben gets traded I’ll cry, and he responds that he might need tissues, then responds to two more posts about Ben being traded, that is enough of a hint for me to give him full credit or ridicule depending on the outcome.
I make notes like this on every person who claims sources so I can have my own database of who I find credible and who I don’t.

We can't depend on Jonah Bolden for anything next year. If he is effective that's great, but it will just be a bonus.
Because we have a non-spacer in Ben Simmons, we need a backup Center who can stretch the floor to play on the 2nd unit with Ben when Embiid is out. That unit will be severely compromised if both Simmons and the Center are non-spacers.

Ha, I'm not saying you shouldn't be. I'm just personally not doing it so when I come on here and read a new Butler take everyday (Lakers, Nets, Rockets, Kawhi, oh my!), it is tiring me out

Not interested. The only way I trade away Butler is if I can sign a star (D'Angelo Russell) to replace him.

I wouldn't put it passed Jimmy to sign the 5 year offer from us and then go nuclear to get to Texas, California or New York. It's in his character and that's what stars are doing now.

That's not a very good team, if you lose Butler you have to retain caproom and make a strong push for Kemba, Brogdon or Russell assuming you retain Harris.smittybanton wrote:Let's say Jimmy demands to go to Houston:

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
Dude it's clear you don't want him on the team. If he does that again, his reputation is tarnished. Philly also can wait as long as the want. Yeah they'll lose value, but they can be difficult about it. Difference is Brett, Jo, or Ben will stand up to Jimmy if he starts pulling a twolve style practice episode.Kobblehead wrote:I wouldn't put it passed Jimmy to sign the 5 year offer from us and then go nuclear to get to Texas, California or New York. Also if he signs I don't seem him demanding a trade. I think what might happen is there might trade Ben or Brett gets fired.

Re: Summer 2019 Free Agency Thread
Lakers have now cleared very close to MAX room. They are now a viable option for Jimmy Butler.

Butler isn’t gonna go to the Lakers unless the Sixers screw around and lowball him.
