Re: Future Free Agent Thread
There's no question Favors would be better off. Our system utilizes him extremely well when he's the lone C, but outside of that, UTA is possibly the worst fit for him in the league. Rudy is one of the top C's in the game, and among those C's has the least synergy with a player like Favs. Also, when we do play two bigs, we do not play as if we have two bigs.
If he finds a better spot he's going to absolutely kill it. Fans are going to whine about letting him go once we see how good he is as the lone C, but it wouldn't be possible here. His potential is very limited in UTA because Rudy also happens to play here.
We have wasted too much time with this. As they say, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

I don't remember who said it when we did the Conley trade, I think it might have been sipclip... but he will turn out right - by the time FA is done we will be where we started - in the 4-5 range in the West.

This is why I never wanted to do the Conley trade. Not during last season, and not now.
We were a second round team without him, and we are a second round team with him. Only now we have no draft picks or assets.

Yeah... unfortunately the gains we made at the top of the roster will be lost elsewhere and unless Mitchell makes a huge jump forward we will be more or less the same team.

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
Tony Jones says he thinks the Jazz would want to split up the $17M and not spend it on one guy....sorry no link it's on his twitter.
If the Jazz want to split up the money, do the Rubio maneuver. The $17M is only advantageous if you need it to get one player that is worth the amount. If we waive Favors, break up the $17M, and use some of it on a C that is just failure....

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
I saw someone mention JaMychal Green or Thaddeus Young and Reggie Bullock - that would be a nice pair of players to use the space on. Then you have the room MLE for (presumably) a combo guard like Seth Curry or Troy Daniels. If you can move Dante as well Reggie Bullock could be Terrence Ross, or instead of JaMychal Green we could see if we could absorb Gallo and also sign a cheap wing or combo guard with the leftover cap space (Wes Matthews ... or, again, Seth Curry ... or David Nwaba).
I think we are in a good position going into free agency.

The other side of that: maybe we don't wanna move Favors for space unless we can get one big piece. Multiple small pieces aren't in the plan?
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
I guess to reflect on what I posted above, if the Jazz decide to let Favors go and move Dante so that they can go for a ton of depth, my ideal offseason would look something like:
Cap space:
Thaddeus Young (2/20)
Reggie Bullock (2/14)
Seth Curry (2/10)
Richaun Holmes (2/10)
Room MLE:
Jeff Green
Min:
Thabo
Depth chart:
Rudy Gobert/Richaun Holmes
Thaddeus Young/Jeff Green/Georges Niang
Joe Ingles/Royce O'neale/Thabo Sefelosha
Donovan Mitchell/Reggie Bullock
Mike Conley/Seth Curry
I think that team has 9 guys that could start and not look out of their depth.
If we go big and can't get Tobias, I like Bojan Bogdanovic. I'm not crazy about Harrison Barnes, but I think as our 4th/5th option on offense he'd also be a great fit.

I think if that's the case and we really want a stretchy 4 (or someone that can move Joe to the bench) Bojan Bogdanovic and Harrison Barnes make a lot of sense.

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
Can we S & T Rubio + Filler to Indiana for a S & T Bogdanovic?

We could, but I doubt Indiana does that. They'd rather force us to lose Favors...to convince them to do it we'd absolutely have to include a first. At that point, the question is whether you'd rather have the pick or Favors, and if Bogs is signing for less than $20 million (I don't think he is) otherwise you can't do the Conley deal.
I think it's likely moot, though. I assume we are keeping Dante (which disappoints me a lot).

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
I would rather have Bojan over Galo. Galo is always injured and he’s on a pretty fat contract. If we can’t get Mirotic for the right price, I would love to add portis and maybe green as a backup 4. Curry would be a great addition, his defense is definitely underrated. I would really like to get Elfrid Payton as a back up, and curry could back up DM at the 2.
Conley/Payton
Mitchell/Curry
Ingles/Royce/Thabo
Portis/Green
Gobert/Dedmon
That would be one hell of a team. I think we will end up with 2-3 rookies from the summer league this year as well

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
If we waive Favors:
- I still take Favors over Mirotic.
- Randle at 12 seems low. But that would rock.
- Ariza at 12 seems right. But I only want him if we keep Favors.
- Rudy Gay at 12 is nice, but he's staying in SAS. We'd have to pay him more to get him. I go with Favs.
If we can keep Favors and get to Full MLE:
- I go for Carroll at 8.3 and tell him he'll get 30 minutes a night.
- Wes Matthews at 8 might be too much.
- I don't wanna pay Jabari 6.
If we're stuck with Favors + RMLE:
- I'd consider Austin Rivers at RMLE. But we need a 4 if
- Thabo is a min guy for me. Just not reliable enough to use our RMLE on.
On these values, I choose Favors + Carrol over Mirotic + Rivers.

Waive Favors, waive Niang and trade Exum.
Sign Mirotic, JaMychal Green and Caruso.
Or
Sign Portis, Dedmon, JaMychal green, curry and resign Thabo.

I’d love portis and Mirotic, but obviously they can’t be on the same team

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
In my dream world we can do the Rubio trade so we can have the MLE. Then we waive Neto. Then we waive or trade Favs for space. That gives us close to 20 million for the space Favs and Neto cleared and we offer Bojan a 3/60 deal that’s really 3/54 with incentives. Then we sign Rudy Gay with the MLE. Then we use all our other money to sign the best backup big man we can.
Ingles, Bojan, and Rudy Gay could easily fill up all the PF mins plus a ton of wing mins with the the some of the best 3 point shooters in the league. Hell, I’d trade Exum in a heartbeat to make this happen.
Conley, Donovan, Royce, Ingles, Bojan, Gay, Gobert....with one decent backup bigman is a championship caliber team.

That would be great if we were able to pull that off. If we traded Exum, who would you try and get to replace him as our back up pg?
