Money for FA is in silly season. Is Denver saying they feel okay exercising Milsap's option for 30 mill if they can not come to agreement on a longer deal?

Windhorst & Lowe Talk Clippers Towards End of Podcast
The Clippers talk begins around the 1:04:35 mark on the time stamp of the podcast. Windhorst thinks timing in free agency is key and he's actually concerned about the purported July 2nd meeting with Kawhi in that follow-up options could be unavailable by the time he decides whether to join the Clippers or not. He also mentions that the Clippers have been saying that we have to have patience in terms of exercising those options in this game of chicken that is free agency.

Damn.
Iggy saying the Warriors said he had a bone bruise when he really had a fracture last season.
Possible they handled Durant's "calf strain" just as poorly?

Probably. It definitely didn't look like just a calf strain when it happened. I immediately thought Achilles.Quake Griffin wrote:Damn.

Not Even Worth It as Backup Plan
I'd love to have Tobias back if he's willing to take less than what Gallo will be paid for 2019-20 to be a 3rd or 4th option. Dude is just not worth a max contract on any level. Sorry, guys. This is straight up drivel.

A team where Tobias is a 3-4 option would be a darn good team. Think he already turned down 25 a year from us. Who are the 2-3 options you would have ahead of him?
I have a strange suspicion teams are going to regret many of the non elite player contracts given to UFA this offseason.

The "experts" are saying what everybody did learn from 2016--to give 2-3 year contracts only this time around. If no Kawhi, the Master Plan might have to give way to some temporizing for a few years. Tobias for 2 yr/$65M? Maybe going after RFAs?
The 2020 UFA class doesn't look too promising, so doing nothing isn't that attractive either.

- Listed below is a preliminary ranking of the top 15 players that, as of now, have the opportunity to become free agents following the 2019-20 season.
1. Anthony Davis - Player Option - New Orleans Pelicans:
2. Draymond Green - Unrestricted - Golden State Warriors:
3. Andre Drummond - Player Option - Detroit Pistons:
4. DeMar DeRozan - Player Option - San Antonio Spurs: He has a $27.7 million option for 2020-21.
5. Kristaps Porzingis - Unrestricted - Dallas Mavericks: Mavs reportedly will offer the max.
6. Al Horford - Player Option - Boston Celtics: [already opted out]
7. Mike Conley - Player Option - Memphis Grizzlies: Conley’s player option for the 2020-21 season is worth $34.5 million. Opting out would require him having to accept a dramatic pay cut.
8. Gordon Hayward - Player Option - Boston Celtics: He has a player option worth $34.2 million for the 2020-21 campaign.
9. Danilo Gallinari - Unrestricted - Los Angeles Clippers:
10. Marc Gasol - Player Option - Toronto Raptors: Gasol’s player option for 2019-20 is worth $25.6 million, and although there would be plenty of interested suitors should he opt out, he would have to settle for a reduced annual salary.
11. Kyle Lowry - Unrestricted - Toronto Raptors:
12. Otto Porter - Player Option - Chicago Bulls: It’s unlikely Porter opts out of the final year of his current contract, as he is set to earn $28.5 million in 2020-21.
13. Montrezl Harrell - Unrestricted - Los Angeles Clippers:
14. Serge Ibaka - Unrestricted - Toronto Raptors:
15. Paul Millsap - Team Option - Denver Nuggets:

Next seasons lack of elite UFA might be another reason teams overspend this offseason. 2-3 years would make sense but most guys will look for 4 years. I still see the same issue on the Clippers that I saw last season. I'm not sure what to expect out of center. Also a huge hole at SF. Obviously KL would be a huge get but the starting lineup has some holes.

Hopefully Kawhi heard none of this too btw.

You Never Know
mttwlsn16 wrote:I'm 99.99% sure Klay is not going anywhere
Yeah, it looks like Klay's camp has been pre-occupied in trying hard to get the Warriors to offer the 5-year max to him, which is why you keep hearing Woj and every other media outlet put out there that he may sign elsewhere if he doesn't get it, which has likely been prodded by Klay's agent. It does look like a formality at this point.
However, the fact that Thompson is no longer eligible for the supermax, makes the difference in AAV fairly negligible now. Of course, that 5th guaranteed year will likely make all the difference in the world for a guy coming off a significant injury. Speaking of which, in light of his teammate Iguodala's revelations, it may just open the door to public backlash against the Warriors organization for their mis-handling of injured players.
All of this is not to say that Klay will likely leave Golden State since he's still anticipated to re-sign with the Warriors, but the possibility of him leaving is certainly more viable than it was before. Who knows? If the Warriors do something stupid and not offer him the 5-year max, then all bets are off.

Planned Prioritization
Galloisdaman wrote:A team where Tobias is a 3-4 option would be a darn good team. Think he already turned down 25 a year from us. Who are the 2-3 options you would have ahead of him?
The aim is to have Kawhi be the 1st option. The 2nd option ideally would be another free agent signed this off-season but Al Horford would not qualify as a better scoring option than Tobias Harris. The 3rd option would be more of a 3b scoring priority in Landry Shamet, who I feel should have about the same amount of touches as Tobias on our hypothetical offense. This also doesn't even factor in Lou Williams off the bench.

Damn, Lakers opened up a max slot. I can't believe the wizards actually just potentially created a dynasty and ruined the league... for a second round pick, jemerrio jones, isaac bonga, and newly classified racist Mo Wagner... like if this leads to Lakers getting Kawhi... wtf Wiz??

I don't care at this point. I'm skeptical they can piece together the other 5 members of a legit playoff rotation out of minimum-wage NBA discards. I was more afraid they'd use the money on 3 or 4 Pat Beverleys.

Latest Free-Agency Buzz Roundup
Blatant tampering in Boston. Horford's 4-year, $112-million offer apparently a hoax leaked by his agent. Lakers swinging for the fences secure in the knowledge that D-Lo will be in the bag if and when the Nets sign Kyrie. Klay's agent is still pushing out the threat to get his client the 5-year offer from Golden State.

Aren't we looking to turn into a tough, hard nose, grinding defensive team?
We can't do that with him and Gallo on the roster. It looks like the team is trying to build and draft a culture of toughness.
Random Thought: We are really on the verge of going a decade without having a legitimate starting defensive SF in the era where you need a legitimate defensive SF.
