So the Knicks would have to wait till the winter or something, I guess if this is what Durant and the Knicks want.

Fair enough. I wasn't aware that the loophole was closed. Thanks for the info.

news to me as well. if we can't s&t for the 5-year, then what are we even talking about? no reason to deal with GS then.

Legacy is the only reason but if LeBron, AD and another max team up, eff that. It really is unfair that KD has to explain playing on the Lakers when LeBron has left his team 3 times to go to the very best roster/situation with flexibility. KD gets killed for playing with Steph, Klay and Green. LeBron teamed up with Wade and Bosh. Then, Kyrie and Love. Now, AD and another max. All of these titles nowadays mean ****.

Unfortunately, I think we're beyond this. He'll have the offer from us at 6:00:01.

It's just a matter of how close can he be. I'd still take 95% of KD.

yup i believe this had been in the works for a while...big guys like him don't just randomly make decisions and we aren't in a position to rescind that offer. This is the first superstar in a while that in theory wants to come here. If anything even if its a legacy play it should help the young guys and our ability to attrack other players because KD is a generational player even if we won't be getting 100% of KD.

That article said that KD's leg will be at 95%. That doesn't say KD will come back at 95%. Big difference, imo. 100% in one leg, 95% in the other will absolutely kill your balance.

Yep...still passing on KD

i'd say "can" not "will.

So his right leg being anywhere between 60% to 95% and his right leg being 100%. Even worse

Deeeez Knicks wrote:Another argument for KD is that if we don’t sign him, we will probably use the money in a worse way. I think the best alternative plan would be to use the money to buy picks and assets but I don’t know if we do that. Sounds like we will just load up on 1 year vets and try to stay competitive. 3 years of KD at 80% is probably a better option then that. With KD sitting out the year, we can probably another top pick in ’20. We could have the start to something….

Mitch
KD
RJ
‘20 draft pick

With the Mavs picks, cap spaceand some other young players, we should have the assets or cap to pick up another guy…maybe someone like Beal. We could be on our way to something by then.

Its a big risk, but KD getting close to 90% is probably our best path to contention at this point.

facts

if you are looking at all our possible scenarios the best way (while it still is risky) is to use the space to let KD redshirt and let young guys play and improve. These other 1 year rentals are just putting lipstick on a pig. It might improve us a little but it does nothing to improve us longterm. If the 1-2 year guys are good they will leave for bigger money and we will probably be good enough to not get rewarded with good picks. If they aren't good enough they will be overpaid and taking up important developmental minutes from our young guys.

Guys like Rozier/Randle will jsut be covering up holes where we should be filling those with young cheap pieces.

At first i wasn't really crazy about KD with the injury but I am talking myself into it. I think he could be a great mentor/pairing for RJ and really take him under his wing.

Seriously this decade is almost over and, of course, LeBron has to be MC once again to drag this sh*t into the 20s.

What was interesting is that someone said that DSJ is on the Westbrook path.... I ended up going to Russell's stats and it's not off base. I was going to counter that Westbrook was much better in the paint/at the hoop.... the numbers don't show that. Then, I was going talk about his assist total... but if DSJ was allowed to be a PG in Dallas and was healthy in NY, he could have had great assist numbers as well. In reality, at the same point in their careers, DSJ has shown to be a better shooter both at the hoop and at the 3pt line. This year is going to be absolutely critical for him and will decide his entire future outlook. Same with Frank.

Kyrie will go to the Lakers. It's been my gut feeling all along. If he does so, KD and Kawhi will go to the Knicks. The 2021 NBA Finals will feature LeBron, Durant, Davis, Kawhi, and Kyrie all on the same floor. Wow

I didn't want to be that guy, but his legs looked bad in those vids. Not much lift.

but w/e. The season and results are what matters. if they go in, they go in.

I'm getting this same feeling too other than the Kawhi coming to the Knicks part, that's not happening. KD might come here though if Kyrie leaves him high and dry

It would be a 4 year contract. Knicks can still rebuild with him on the squad, imo. And there's also the chance we get another amnesty clause after the new CBA. So if things really get bad (like Eddy Curry bad and Durant will never play again), Knicks could amnesty him.

every move has some level of risk...we have all our draft picks so we can mitigate some of that risk if he never comes back to full health to continue to develop and build the youth. Thats why I'm still taking that risk.

Yup what else are you going to spend that money on NOW that would net the return KD will if things work out? And lets face it no matter who you spend the money on, in this class, all of the guys will be on a downward trajectory towards the end of the deal except for maybe Tobias/D'Lo/Randle but all those guys come with the concern that they won't be worth the big money in the first place.

I initially was hesitant on signing KD after the achilles thing but it just makes sense to do it and hope because the alternatives probably don't have the same upside and the downside is mostly mitigated by how our team structure is currently set.
