Leafs 2019 Official Offseason/Draft thread

Post#1 » by GoRapstheoriginal » Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:58 pm

Apparently Leafs have 7 draft picks in 2019 draft, I'm thinking Defence(henceforth D#).

Goalie?

Who do we target as free agents?

#1 priority to resign Marner?

Discuss/add thoughts.

I like these off-season moves so far. A bit of tweaking. Kerfoot and Barrie were great additions. Re-signing Marner is a must of course.

Yup.

Almost as troubling is the silly season controversy of Mathews professing his undying love for the Coyotes. Strange and unprofessional candour, considering he's locked up long term to a franchise like the Leafs.

Considering the fantastic offers he's reportedly rejected, if he hasn't signed a week before the puck drops on opening night, they should trade Marner the **** off my team for a pair of pylons.

Marner is seriously overvaluing himself. His parents are too involved and looking for too much to get back what they didn't get in their rookie deal from Lou. If the Leafs have offered 7 and 77, that's ridiculous to be turning down. I know there's rumours he wants the 3 year deal for be an RFA in his last year of eligibility and a cap explosion with new US TV money coming in but this is beyond dumb now.

They even upped some signing bonus money to get as close to making him whole. If I'm Dubas, I'm telling him this is our offer, take it or sit the year. From there, if an offer sheet comes in we can do what's best for the team. If it doesn't and a team wants to trade for his rights, so be it as well. We are not without leverage even if it ends up a wasted Cup chance all cause Marner won't sign the second most lucrative contract the Leafs have ever given out and put his money in the same ballpark as Matthews and Tavares. Enough of this crap.

Got to commend Dubas for holding his ground, if in fact these reports are true. Between an extra high-flying winger and having the cap space to eventually extend Freddie Andersen, I'd much sooner trade Marner for a pair of pylons than give Marner extra dough and restart from scratch goalie-wise.

Marner signed for 6 year 10.8 million yearly average. Sounds good to me. Glad they got this settled before season opener.

Freaking finally! Yes agreed that it's a good thing getting it done before season opener/training camp.

My expectations to make the Conference Finals this year & at least go to Game 7, will be nice if we win but at LEAST
have to make it to the conference finals.

These guys are getting every last cent they want.

Well, the pressures on them. Leafs have 3 of the highest paid players in the league, so first round exits arent acceptable anymore.

Marner has a no trade for the first two years. In two years if the Leafs are still the same kind of underachieving playoff team they can ship him out and regroup around Matthews, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly.

But they spend the least per win of any NHL team, according to this anyway https://www.clickitticket.com/cost-per-win-nhl/

I think that's from a few years ago, but the Leafs have been a pretty frugal team over the years. Maybe if they spent more, they'd be better this season.
