While I'm really hoping you're right, I can't figure out why, if that truly is their master plan, Kawhi wouldn't just do a 1+1 with TOR while KD signs with the Knicks in order to hedge some really bad odds with Durant's achilles.
Unless he just doesn't want TOR bottom line.
I don’t think he really cares to be in Toronto.
Kawhi legit only cares about basketball and being happy playing basketball.
He never asked to be traded to Toronto, he has no connection with them, he got them a title & his comments in the Finals post conference were really telling about him not committing there.
I still feel Kawhi loves that finals mvp trophy more than anything. Raptors gave him the best of both worlds though, and he delivered them a title. That man gone though.
The sell here isnt really the Knicks, but rather what their people persuade him into. Both kawhi and kd have business interests here.
I know some scoff at that, but those guys play the game seriously.
Just step out the box for a second, and iamgine the looks on the youths faces if they saw KD and Kawhi sitting in the Vegas with Knicks jersey's on. if that dont get you to get your game on par.....
I think the reason he loves the title more than anything is the same way Kobe loved that title in 2009 or when Bron won that title in 2012, it’s their **** you win after people talked all their **** for so long. A whole year Kawhi just heard he was a quitter, a fake, etc and he proved everyone wrong.
Besides that, like you said there is some much influence and business to be made in NY compared to the Clippers.
The biggest is the legacy both will have by bringing a title back to NY or even just prestige.
The Knicks have been a joke for far too long, there’s a bigger win factor with the Knicks than with the Clippers.
Fans get caught up too much in the “this team has a better core”, blah, blah.
It’s about LEGACY & besides the Lakers and Celtics , the only team that will give you a legacy even without said team having winning relevancy, is the Knicks.
